Chapter 604: A Magical Muggle Adventure
Chapter 604: A Magical Muggle Adventure
The Anderson family was up early that day.
After breakfast and finishing their morning chores, the whole family sat on the sofa watching television, their eyes occasionally glancing at the wall clock.
"It's nine o'clock, she's late," Nia said, glancing at the clock on the wall and turning to Albert beside her. "Do witches and wizards keep a different time than us?"
Herb and Daisy were a little worried that Isabelle wouldn't make it on time, as they needed to catch an 11:30 flight to Paris, France.
In fact, Albert could easily have traveled to France by other means, such as by broomstick or Floo Network, and met up with his family after the wedding.
But this was a family vacation, and taking the regular route would make it easier to resolve any potential issues. Moreover, Albert thought that this trip would be an interesting experience for Isabelle, and most importantly, he didn't want her to reject the Muggle world, even though the possibility of that was low.
Just past nine o'clock, the Anderson family's doorbell rang, and everyone jumped up as if they'd been electrocuted. Finally, Albert went to the door and opened it.
Isabelle stood outside with her luggage, her muscles slightly tense and a look of nervousness on her face.
"Come in, everyone's waiting for you!"
Albert gave Isabelle a hug and took her suitcase, leading her inside.
Daisy liked the smart and pretty Isabelle, and she approved of her son's choice. She quickly pulled Isabelle to the sofa and they began chatting.
Nia, on the other hand, secretly observed Isabelle, and even she had to admit that this woman was beautiful and had a strange aura about her.
After meeting Isabelle's gaze, Nia forced a smile, though it looked very strained.
Herb, meanwhile, was on the phone, calling the taxi they had booked to take them to the airport.
About ten minutes later, the Andersons had loaded their luggage into the taxi and were on their way to London Airport.
"Mom really likes you," Albert said to Isabelle, who had her head resting on his shoulder.
"She seems to want us to settle down in the Muggle world," Isabelle said softly. Daisy had just mentioned this to her.
"They don't have a good impression of that world, and they think it's very backward. I guess they're worried that we'll have a hard life," Albert explained with a smile.
"Haven't you told them about your world?"
"No," Albert shook his head. "There's no need."
Fortunately, they didn't encounter any traffic jams, and they soon arrived at London Airport.
"Are we going to take an 'airplane' to France?"
Isabelle was curious and amazed at how Muggles could make such things fly without magic.
Wizards usually traveled internationally by train, broomstick, or the international Floo Network, or by using Portkeys.
For larger groups, they might also use flying carpets.
However, the use of flying carpets had recently been banned by the Ministry of Magic.
They waited in the airport lounge for their flight, and Isabelle's documents were in order, which put Herb, who was handling the check-in, at ease.
"Here!"
Nia returned with several cups of drinks and distributed them to everyone, glancing at Isabelle's cup as she asked absentmindedly, "When did you two meet?"
"Not long after Albert started at Hogwarts, we were in the same club," Isabelle recalled.
"I remember you showing me around," Albert said, taking a small sip. The coffee was bitter and particularly unpleasant.
He looked up at Nia, who was struggling to drink hers, and a helpless smile appeared on his face.
While Herb and Daisy were used to bitter coffee, and Albert could tolerate it to some extent, Isabelle had never tasted such a bitter drink. She frowned slightly but managed to drink it anyway.
In the end, only Nia was left struggling, but fortunately, the plane took off soon after, so she didn't have to worry about it for too long.
"No wonder you think Muggle Studies is useless," Isabelle said to Albert as the plane took off.
It was astonishing that Muggles could make such things fly without the use of magic.
Sometimes, the young witch even worried that the plane might suddenly fall out of the sky halfway through the flight.
Although Isabelle knew that the possibility of that happening was low, she still felt a strange restlessness and anxiety, similar to walking on a glass-bottomed bridge.
"Don't worry, planes are very safe, it's not that easy for something to go wrong," Albert reassured her, holding Isabelle's hand. "I was nervous the first time I flew too."
"Liar!" Nia muttered under her breath, sitting next to Albert.
"You can look at the view outside," Albert suggested, indicating the window. "It's a sight you rarely see in the wizarding world."
Even the best broomsticks couldn't reach the altitude they were at now.
More than two hours later, the plane landed smoothly at Paris Airport, and they took a taxi to their booked hotel.
"I suddenly understand why your family doesn't want you to stay in the wizarding world," Isabelle said, lying on the soft mattress and lazily turning over. She had just closed the door behind her.
The Muggle world was very different from what she had expected.
Without magic, Muggles didn't need magic, yet they invented many things that were just as magical, and they lived very well because of them.
In Albert's words, the wizarding world was a bit backward and was falling behind the times.
"Your view is a bit one-sided," Albert said with a smile as he turned on the television, which was playing French news. "What you're seeing and experiencing now is because we spent quite a few pounds to enjoy better treatment. But yes, Muggle life is better than that of wizards, as long as you have the money."
"Is this what they call a 'television'?"
Isabelle examined the large box in front of her, on which some images were being displayed. "I've heard Professor Burbage mention this."
"You could write a book about this trip," Albert suggested with a smile as he turned off the TV. "How about 'A Magical Muggle Adventure'?"
"That's a good idea," Isabelle agreed. "But I wonder if such a book would even sell?"
"Does it matter if it sells or not?" Albert countered. "And you could try sending manuscripts to Muggle publishers. As long as you don't reveal your identity as a witch, looking at the Muggle world from a different perspective can be quite interesting, and I'm sure some people would like it."
The two didn't chat for long before there was a knock on the door. Nia appeared, her face gloomy, clearly unhappy that Herb and Daisy had put Albert and Isabelle in the same room.
