Chapter 603: What the Hell a Goldenlegend
Chapter 603: What the Hell a Goldenlegend
Port Warehouse.
Klah watched the Transponder Snail’s eyes close, then opened his mouth, his gaze shifting from the Snail to the massive object radiating golden light. The brilliance was so intense it made him flinch backward, his eyes nearly unable to stay open.
“Wow! Golden!”
Beside him, Lida’s excited voice rang out. Within the golden glow, a figure darted and leaped, seemingly inspecting something.
Under the golden light, the figure’s silhouette revealed white hair, its edges illuminated in a stark white-gold hue.
Against this backdrop, the blinding golden radiance took the shape of a ship’s outline in Klah’s eyes.
Too dazzling.
So dazzling it nearly blinded him.
This thing…
“Klah!”
Klah immediately transformed into a five-meter-tall werewolf, claws slashing wildly, unleashing a barrage of slashes toward the golden light.
Hiss! Hiss! Hiss!
Clang! Clang! Clang!
The slashes struck the golden glow, producing piercing metallic sounds.
Klah froze for a moment, as if resigning himself to something. He reverted to human form and turned to the excited Wilbur beside him, disbelief in his voice, “You call this ordinary?”
“Yes, I know I’m not good enough yet. I haven’t reached the ‘ordinary’ level Master Kuro described.”
Wilbur lowered his head in shame, “There should be more, more, more high-quality materials, but this is already my limit, Wilbur’s limit. I’m sorry, Commander Klah.”
“No, what I meant was—”
“Don’t worry about it, Wilbur!”
Before Klah could finish, Kas interrupted, stepping forward to slap Wilbur’s shoulder hard, his voice brimming with excitement, “You’ve already given your all! Even if it’s not perfect, this is your limit. You’ll definitely surpass it someday!”
“Kas!”
Wilbur looked at him, touched.
“Wilbur!”
Kas’s eyes sparkled as he shouted, “Let’s work harder together and contribute even more to Master Kuro!!”
“Yeah!!” Wilbur roared, equally thrilled.
Watching the two “mutual admiration,” Klah pushed his glasses up helplessly, deciding not to speak.
Whatever. He’d stop caring.
He couldn’t stop this anyway.
Let them hit each other all they want!
Headquarters Port, Warship Docking Area.
Kuro bit down on his cigar, waiting with obvious boredom.
Passing Navy officers saluted him, and he nodded in response, watching them walk by as he muttered, “Why’s it taking so long? Can’t a ship launch any faster?”
“Kuro.”
A familiar voice sounded from behind.
Kuro turned to see Tina approaching with Fenbodi and Zangao. “What are you up to? Tina’s curious.”
Fenbodi and Zangao both saluted, standing straight, “Vice Admiral Kuro!”
Kuro nodded, exhaling a puff of smoke, “Waiting for a ship. Old Man’s Flagship is ready. I’m waiting for them to sail out before heading back to East Blue on vacation.”
“On vacation, huh? Sounds nice. Tina’s jealous.”
Tina crossed her arms, “After this mission, Tina’s going on vacation too. I heard your Pegasus Island is fun.”
“Go ahead, go ahead. Navy gets a 50% discount. For friends, though…”
Kuro thought for a moment, then pulled out his cigar box, handing Tina a stick, “Here. With this token, you get a 70% discount.”
“That’s such a deal! Tina’s grateful.”
Tina took the cigar, “Still, with such a discount… aren’t you losing money?”
“Just pocket change. If I lose a little, so what? Not worth worrying about. The more people come, the better Pegasus Island’s safety gets.” Kuro waved a hand dismissively.
Pegasus Island already made more than enough profit. Kuro didn’t care about money—just enough to get by.
The 50% Navy discount? He’d personally subsidize the shops to cover their losses. But that amount was a drop in the ocean for him. Overall, he still made a fortune.
And pirates?
Pirates get discounts too.
Broken-bone discounts.
“Tina’s grateful. You wait for your Flagship then. Honestly, choosing a Flagship like that really suits your style, Kuro.” Tina said, surprised.
“Right? I’m such a low-key guy.” Kuro smirked confidently.
“Low-key…”
Tina narrowed her eyes, lifting the cigarette to her lips, exhaling a puff of smoke, “Definitely your style. Well, Tina’s off.”
As Tina boarded her ship, Kuro tilted his head, “Old Man’s obviously low-key. What’s that expression for? Doesn’t she believe me? I, Kuro, am known as East Blue’s Mr. Low-Key, you know.”
Just as he finished, a golden light erupted from the sea nearby, so blinding that Kuro instinctively closed his eyes and turned his head away.
After a long moment, he adjusted to the golden radiance, staring intently, his breath catching.
“Hiss!”
It was a warship. A massive one, far larger than a Capital Ship. The entire vessel was forged from steel, its hull reinforced with thick armor plates seamlessly embedded. The surface bore dragon-and-lion-like paintings in gold lacquer.
Above the hull, dragon-and-lion sculptures resembled rooftop carvings, sprawling along the ship’s edges.
At the ship’s center stood numerous structures—less a ship, more a floating fortress complex. Every building was adorned with gold-painted dragon-and-lion motifs, like a ukiyo-e woodblock print.
Behind the largest fortress loomed a colossal dragon-lion sculpture with a ram’s head, its mouth open to the sky. As the ship moved, steam billowed from the ram’s jaws.
Simultaneously, smaller sculptures along the deck released wisps of white steam.
At the bow, a Haki-imbued, dragon-lion head with ram horns and a closed mouth—unlike the painted ones, this sculpture was entirely crafted from solid gold!
A steam-powered warship, gleaming with golden light!
“What the hell a goldenlegend!”
The sight left Kuro gaping, “Who the hell’s so reckless? Actually sailing this thing out? Don’t they fear pirates stealing it?”
Then he spotted the flag atop the fortress—Navy’s insignia.
“Navy warship? Now that’s reckless. Making it this flashy? Isn’t it basically a moving target?!”
Kuro rubbed his chin, “Who’d dare? Who’s this reckless?”
He pondered, then suddenly smacked his forehead, astonished, “Don’t tell me… it’s Old Man’s?”
“Joking, joking.”
Kuro chuckled dryly, “Can’t be mine. I asked for an ordinary warship. So… Smoker’s? Sounds like him. That guy loves showing off, and he’s an old smoker—steam suits him.”
