Chapter 603: Lanchi's Farewell
Chapter 603: Lanchi's Farewell
Two days later.
At the northern border of the Polkland Empire, in the county of Berkinh, lies the Chickel Manor.
This manor, secluded from the hustle and bustle of the capital, has recently become a dedicated meeting place for diplomatic relations between the Polkland Empire and the Demon Tribe, now that the rainy weather has subsided.
As night fell, the dark canopy of the sky was adorned with twinkling stars, and at eight in the evening, the unique scenery of Berkinh County began to unfold.
Chickel Manor and the dreamy forest lake nearby blended seamlessly with the surrounding natural landscape after dusk. The contours of the architecture, the layout of the city-state, and even the dinner at the manor were all in harmony with the rhythms of nature.
Suddenly, a faint vibration ruptured the tranquil sky above the manor, followed by a low, rumbling hum that grew louder. Several gigantic Demon Dragons descended from the heavens, their wings stirring up leaves and soil as they glided toward the ground.
Finally, the dragons came to a gentle halt at a distance from the mansion, and several figures leaped down from their backs.
At the forefront was a Demon with fiery brown eyes and hair, tall and stately, dressed as immaculately as a knight.
"My dear friend, I never expected this to be your true form."
Lord Gareth of the Thunder, Garres, shook hands with Lanchi, who had been waiting for him.
"I witnessed your valiant act of delivering the Ancestral Bomb. Well done!"
Lanchi, cradling a cat in one arm, praised Garres.
With the opening of trade routes in the Beastmen City-State of the Land of Eternal Night and the establishment of commercial contracts with the Demon Realm, this city would become one of the most crucial military and commercial strongholds of the Polkland Empire in the foreseeable future. Hence, amicable relations between the Polkland Empire and the Demon Tribe were of paramount importance.
The Cat Boss shivered.
It was hard for him to imagine that Lanchi could be so cheerful about blowing up an entire province.
Fortunately, there were no wars in the present world; otherwise, someone like Lanchi would surely end up in a military tribunal.
Come to think of it, the one who might end up in a military tribunal was Lorren.
At that thought, the Cat Boss shrunk his head, resembling a block of black, sugarless, whole wheat bread.
"By the way, what happened to Orion and Esmod?" Lanchi asked Garres as they walked towards the mansion.
Today was the last day for him, Huberian, and the Cat Boss in the Shadow World.
It was also the day that Caliella had scheduled her return to the Demon Realm.
Hence, Lanchi had come early to the northern border of the Polkland Empire, in Berkinh County, to bid farewell to his Demon friends.
With the departure of Caliella, the ninth-rank Great Demon, Esmod, the Demon Realm's Minister of Foreign Affairs and the true Night Lord, would soon arrive, accompanied by General Orion of the Seventh Army Group, also known as the Misty Lord.
They led a delegation called the "Messengers of the Demon Realm" and served as technical advisors for the "Project Salem" Demon team. In truth, they were here to assist Lanchi, a powerful Demon, and help him purge the parliament.
Gareth of the Thunder, Garres, sighed in exasperation.
He recalled the moment in the Demon King's City of Nakalis when Esmod, the True Night Lord, had finally mustered the courage to remove his cloak before their departure, only to be met with Misty Lord Orion's bewildered expression.
"Do you know what Misty Lord said when he saw Esmod in her female form? He blurted out, 'Brother, why do you look like a woman today?' Esmod was so furious that she ignored him for a full ten minutes." Garres spread his hands helplessly.
"And then?" Lanchi inquired.
"Well, after that, they both seemed a bit tongue-tied and awkward around each other."
"I hope they arrive soon. It's time for my good friend Orion to indulge in some Polkland cuisine. Perhaps only a hearty meal can ease their tensions," Lanchi said with a sigh.
"How interesting," Lanchi mused.
"Meow, meow, meow, why do you always look so happy when Misty Lord is eating? You make him feel so uncomfortable, and he always suspects that you have some strange ideas about him." The Cat Boss asked, looking up at Lanchi from his arms.
"Do I?" Lanchi asked, his eyes wide in feigned innocence as he stroked his cheeks.
"Meow... I can't say," the Cat Boss replied, feeling relieved that Lanchi wasn't Lanchi.
He had been keeping an eye on Misty Lord and True Night Lord ever since they were in Nakalis, the Demon King's City, and had even taken notes in his little notebook.
Misty Lord had the qualifications to become a king, but he was inherently lazy and had stagnated after reaching the level of a Three-Seal Great Demon.
If it weren't for his family background, identity, and the impression he left on others as a proud and noble young master, he might have given up already.
In contrast, True Night Lord, with her ordinary bloodline, was diligent and constantly striving to improve herself.
By bringing them together, Lanchi felt he had done a good deed.
Perhaps due to Huberian's presence by his side, Lanchi's condition seemed to have improved.
Just thinking about the accident that Lanchi had caused in the present world—the upcoming date between Lorren and Knight Julianna of the Kingdom of Arolan—made Huberian's head hurt.
Once Lanchi returned to the present world, Lorren would be free of any pressure, and that long-awaited date would finally come to pass.
"What if Misty Lord and True Night Lord had twins, and all their strengths were inherited by one child, while all their weaknesses were inherited by the other? Wouldn't that be hilarious?" Lanchi asked.
"Where are they now?" Thunder Lord asked, taken aback.
"Once True Night Lord takes the first step, things will move quickly. There's no reason for Misty Lord not to fall in love with her," Lanchi said, laughing as he led Thunder Lord through the main entrance of the estate and into the mansion.
The antique furnishings in the grand hall retained the style from decades ago when the estate was first built, and the warm lighting dispelled the chilly air that lingered in the garden at night.
As they walked down the corridor and entered a spacious reception room, they saw Caliella, Huberian, and Sigrid waiting inside.
Soft melodies from a stringed instrument blended with their voices as the lights in the parlor twinkled, reflecting the starlight on the horizon.
Caliella and Huberian were seated on a sofa, engaged in casual conversation while they waited for the Sixth Demonic Army Group's troops to return.
"Lady Caliella, the returning troops are standing by," Thunder Lord reported briefly to Caliella before excusing himself and heading outside to wait.
"Please continue your conversation," he said.
"Wait a moment," Lanchi said, noticing that Caliella seemed to have something more to discuss with Huberian. He turned to leave but was called back.
"What is it, Miss Caliella?" Lanchi asked, sitting next to Huberian and looking at Caliella on the adjacent sofa.
"When are you planning to hold your wedding?" Caliella asked, looking at Lanchi and Huberian with a serious expression.
"Can you give us a little more time...?" Huberian stammered.
If it weren't for Caliella bringing it up, she would have almost forgotten about the engagement.
She couldn't help but feel relieved that the fast-paced nature of the Shadow World didn't allow for a grand fake wedding with Lanchi, but there was also a twinge of disappointment in her heart.
At least she had experienced it in her dreams...
