Chapter 603: Hermione's Memory
Chapter 603: Hermione's Memory
The guidance for the Champions continued throughout the afternoon, and they were only dismissed by evening.
On the way to the Great Hall for dinner, Harry kept complaining that Ron wouldn't listen to anyone.
After the intense arguments in the morning, their relationship had escalated from just being upset with each other to being on the verge of a complete fallout.
Ivan looked helpless; he had no good solution and could only hope that Ron would calm down and come to his senses in a few days.
After a hurried dinner, Ivan found an excuse to send Harry away and then took Hermione up to the Tower's roof to practice Magic.
As he had imagined, the place was empty and very quiet, and at this time, there was no need to worry about someone suddenly coming in and interrupting their Casting.
"Do you need me to do anything?" Hermione seemed nervous, her hands fidgeting, unsure where to place them.
"No, just stand there and stay relaxed. Try not to resist; my technique might still be a bit rough..." Ivan reassured her.
Hearing this, Hermione became even more anxious. She nervously looked around, searching for an escape route.
She thought that if Ivan insisted on doing something to her, she would immediately run towards the door!
However, Ivan was standing right in front of the door, and her strength was far inferior to his. After some consideration, Hermione realized her chances of escaping were slim.
Her only other option was to surprise him by jumping off the Tower!
But it was very high, probably several dozen meters above the ground. If she couldn't precisely time the release of the Feather Fall spell, she would certainly die!
Thinking this, Hermione became even more conflicted, wondering whether she should run or stay.
Ivan was completely unaware of the strange thoughts running through the young witch's mind and continued to explain.
"I'm going to use a spell called Legilimency on you. It can read your current thoughts or past memories...
If you feel any discomfort during the Casting or if there's something you don't want me to see, just resist, and I'll stop immediately!"
As he was about to cast the spell, Ivan stopped being mysterious and explained the situation in detail.
"Memories?" Hermione's expression was peculiar. She realized her earlier assumptions were off, and Ivan had been referring to privacy in this context. She felt so embarrassed that she wished she could find a crack in the ground to hide in.
"What's wrong?" Ivan was puzzled by Hermione's reaction.
"Nothing," the young witch quickly shook her head, relieved that Ivan hadn't noticed her earlier thoughts.
But soon, Hermione thought about the spell Ivan was about to cast and became hesitant. She couldn't help but ask, "Why are you learning this kind of memory-reading Magic?"
"Do you remember the guess we made yesterday? I think the same as you, that one of the Dark Lord's followers might have infiltrated us and is plotting something, just like Quirrell did!" Ivan explained, half-truthfully.
"So you want to learn Legilimency to identify who is sent by the Dark Lord?" Hermione immediately understood Ivan's purpose, and her initial reluctance to cooperate with him diminished.
"Yes, exactly!" Ivan smiled, then gently raised his wand, maintaining eye contact with Hermione. "Are you ready?"
Hermione took a deep breath and nodded.
She had read some descriptions of Legilimency in a book before and thought that as long as she focused on memories from her childhood, she would be fine.
“I’m coming!” Ivan waved his wand at Hermione and whispered, “Legilimency~”
Ivan’s floating voice seemed to have a magical quality, making Hermione’s mind grow hazy. Her gaze remained locked with Ivan’s, and memories flooded her mind like a tide.
At the same time, Ivan felt his thoughts being drawn into the young witch’s body, fragmented memories appearing before his eyes.
The first scene that appeared was a cozy little room with pink curtains and a pink bedroom, filled with various stuffed animals and toys.
What caught Ivan’s attention the most was Hermione lying on the bed, or rather, a younger Hermione.
She looked to be around eight or nine years old, with lively brown eyes, listening to Mrs. Granger read a Muggle fairy tale.
When Mrs. Granger reached the part about the princess being mistreated and locked in a dark room by her stepmother, little Hermione’s face was filled with worry and fear. She clutched the edge of the blanket tightly, curling up as much as she could under it.
Ivan couldn’t help but laugh. From his perspective as an observer, Hermione looked absolutely adorable at that moment!
However, as an observer, Ivan’s actions seemed to have no effect. Mrs. Granger continued to read the story in a gentle voice.
The story ended with a kind old hag casting a spell to rescue the princess from the dark room. The escaped princess met a prince from a neighboring kingdom, and they lived happily ever after.
“Mom, is there really magic in the world?” little Hermione asked, curiosity and envy in her voice.
Mrs. Granger smiled and playfully “convinced” Hermione that there was indeed magic, and that everyone was a wizard.
Perhaps little Hermione really believed it, for she began to mimic the wizards in the story, mumbling spells with great seriousness.
Mrs. Granger covered her mouth to stifle a laugh.
But when little Hermione finished her incantation, the stuffed animals and small objects like cups and teapots were suddenly thrown into the air, crashing into the ceiling and scattering to the floor.
One teapot nearly hit Mrs. Granger on the head.
Little Hermione was utterly terrified, and Mrs. Granger, wide-eyed and shaken, immediately hugged Hermione to comfort her. Mr. Granger soon burst into the room from outside…
“Is this a young wizard’s magic surge?” Ivan muttered to himself. No wonder Hermione could remember it so vividly; it was indeed a memorable experience.
This memory abruptly ended, and the following ones were brief fragments of moments that brought Hermione great joy or profound sadness.
Ivan shared these memories with Hermione, feeling her joy and sorrow. It was a strange sensation, as if he were watching Hermione grow up, experiencing the subtlest of her emotions.
Until the day in the memory when Hermione, at the age of eleven, received her admission letter from Hogwarts.
Ivan perked up, intrigued. He knew that soon Hermione would meet him, so he was curious to see himself from another perspective…
