The next morning, after the children left for school, Lu JiaGuang prepared to head to work. Wang Xiaojie stopped him, saying that she needed to discuss something important.

Seeing her solemn expression, Lu JiaGuang was intrigued. Once they entered his study, he asked, "What is it? Why didn't you mention it last night?"

Wang Xiaojie knew that he tended to worry a lot, so she explained, "If I had told you last night, you would have stayed up all night worrying. I kept it from you so that you could have a good night's rest."

"Third Uncle, can you be sure that no one will investigate the source of that money?" Lu JiaGuang asked.

Lu HongJun understood his nephew's concerns and wanted to reassure him. "Rest assured, the two people who handled the money are no longer alive. One passed away due to illness, and the other perished in a car accident."

Since he had not been directly involved, and both witnesses were now deceased, Lu HongJun felt confident that there would be no evidence to implicate him. Sometimes, he even felt as if fate was on his side.

Hearing this, Lu JiaGuang felt relieved. However, he still wanted to emphasize, "Third Uncle, if there's ever a problem, you mustn't hide it from me. If you can't rely on me for help, remember that JiaXin is also here for you! She may not have fully let go of the past, but she will never stand by and watch you get into trouble."

After all, having her father imprisoned would not reflect well on her, and it might tarnish her reputation. Given her contributions, as long as the crime wasn't heinous, she should be able to pull some strings and smooth things over.

Lu HongJun acknowledged with a sound of agreement, "You don't have to tell me that. If anything happens, I will definitely let you know."

A couple of days later, Lu HongJun was also summoned for questioning, supposedly to assist in the investigation. He didn't know what Kang Jinzhou had said, but once he stepped into that place, he had no intention of hiding anything. His old bones couldn't handle the pressure. So, as soon as he sat down, he spilled everything he had done that went against regulations, one confession after another.

The interrogators were surprised by his level of cooperation. They recorded his statements and then asked, "Aside from these things, is there anything else?"

Lu HongJun shook his head, indicating that was all. "That's everything. To be honest, gentlemen, I didn't want to do those things, but under those circumstances, if I didn't, no one would support me."

The leader listened to the new investigator's report and nodded, then instructed him to halt the investigation.
