Chapter 602: Is Magic Really That Important?
Chapter 602: Is Magic Really That Important?
After Cedric spoke, the Hufflepuff young wizards, though unwilling, had no choice but to accept the situation.
Fleur and Krum, seeing there was no more excitement to be had, turned to leave as well. However, both looked somewhat worried, as they realized Ivan's magic skills were even higher than they had anticipated.
"Sorry for taking up your time, Hals!" Cedric said apologetically.
"It's nothing. I learned a lot from our duel," Ivan replied, shaking his head. Cedric's gracious acceptance of defeat surprised him, so he added some polite words out of habit.
But as soon as he spoke, Ivan realized his choice of words might have sounded a bit sarcastic.
After all, the battle had ended in an instant, and there was little to be gained from it.
"Anyway, I hope you can represent Hogwarts and win the Triwizard Tournament!" Cedric said with a wry smile, then called for the Hufflepuff young wizards to leave.
At this moment, the Gryffindor young wizards gathered around, excited. George gave Ivan a hearty pat on the shoulder, clearly thrilled.
"Ivan, you were amazing! You beat Cedric so easily! I can't wait to see who still dares to doubt our Gryffindor Hero!" George said admiringly.
Ivan was also pleased, but not because he had defeated Cedric. Instead, he was happy to see the number of his Fanatic Followers in the task bar increase from four to fourteen.
This meant that his strength and demeanor during the duel had impressed some people.
Ivan had always been puzzled about how to complete this task, but now he had a clear plan: he just needed to perform well in front of everyone.
The upcoming Triwizard Tournament was the perfect platform, which meant he might be able to complete both tasks at once!
"What's going on here? Why are you all gathered around?"
Just as Ivan was feeling increasingly cheerful, Professor McGonagall, having received the news, arrived at the entrance hall. She immediately saw the mess near the Hufflepuff long table and the group of Gryffindor young wizards.
"Professors, it happened like this. Cedric from Hufflepuff insisted on dueling Ivan in the Great Hall," Seamus quickly explained, taking Ivan's side and adding a few details to shift the blame to Cedric.
Although, in truth, that was exactly what happened.
"Even so, you shouldn't have agreed to the duel, Hals! Especially not in the Great Hall, and you've damaged so many things... Hufflepuff and Gryffindor will each lose ten points!" Professor McGonagall said, clearly displeased. She waved her wand to repair the broken candelabra and basins.
The Gryffindor young wizards were indignant. The instigator was clearly Hufflepuff, so why should they also lose points?
Ivan didn't mind. He could tell that Professor McGonagall was being lenient; normally, they would have lost at least twenty points!
After restoring the damaged items, Professor McGonagall didn't dwell on the duel. Instead, she turned to Ivan and said, "Hals, Headmaster Dumbledore asked me to tell you that Mr. Crouch and Mr. Bagman will be providing initial guidance to the Champions in the adjacent room this afternoon. Don't miss it!"
"I'll be there, Professors!" Ivan replied.
Professor McGonagall nodded and then shifted her gaze to the others. "Alright, why are you still standing around? Don't you have anything else to do today?"
Under Professor Mcgonagall's stern rebuke, the young wizards who had been spectating finally dispersed, allowing Ivan some peace.
He turned to the young witches who hadn't left yet, recalling his plan to practice Legilimency. He steeled himself and asked again, "Hermione, do you agree to what I mentioned earlier?"
"Is that magic really that important?" Hermione pursed her lips, looking somewhat uneasy.
"Yes, it is quite important!" Ivan said helplessly. If it weren't, he wouldn't have asked Hermione for help.
"Time? When do you need to practice this magic?" Hermione's words were a bit hesitant.
"Let's make it this evening. Meet me at the Tower Terrace!" Ivan thought for a moment and suggested.
Hermione hesitated for a while but eventually nodded in agreement.
In the afternoon, after dinner, Ivan calculated the time and, following Professor Mcgonagall's instructions, arrived at a secluded area near the Great Hall.
Pushing open the door, Ivan realized he was the last to arrive. Fleur, Krum, and the others were already there.
Harry stood to one side, his expression not very pleasant. Ivan quickly deduced that he must have run into a wall with Ron, failing to win their argument again.
However, this was within his expectations. If Ron had been unusually supportive after learning they had become Champions, Ivan would have suspected that someone was controlling him.
After a while, Mr. Bagman and Mr. Crouch pulled back the curtain and emerged from the inner room.
"Since everyone is here, let's get started!" Mr. Bagman glanced at the group and began. "The first task will take place on November 24th, and you will need to complete a certain mission in front of all the students and judges!
What I can reveal now is that this task will test your courage! I hope you show enough bravery when you face it..."
Mr. Bagman looked at the Champions with a playful expression, elaborating on various rules and precautions for the competition, but he didn't disclose any specific details, piquing the curiosity of Harry and the others.
"That's your turn to speak, Barty!" After talking for about ten minutes, Mr. Bagman felt he had covered enough and turned to look at Mr. Crouch.
"Ah? Oh! Right!" Mr. Crouch seemed distracted, as if he had just woken up from a dream. He nodded hurriedly and then paused, asking, "Where were you just now, Ludo Bagman?"
"What's wrong with you, Barty? You've been distracted these past few days?" Mr. Bagman frowned, clearly displeased.
"You know, there's a lot to do lately... I haven't been sleeping well! Maybe you should just continue", Mr. Crouch sighed, explaining.
Mr. Bagman nodded in understanding. Mr. Crouch not only had to handle the Triwizard Cup but also had to manage the Department of International Magical Cooperation, which was indeed quite busy.
With this in mind, Mr. Bagman didn't pressure Mr. Crouch further and proceeded to cover the remaining details himself.
Ivan silently noted Mr. Crouch's unusual behavior, deciding to investigate him first once he mastered Legilimency.
