Chapter 600: I've Never Heard of Such Magic!
Chapter 600: I've Never Heard of Such Magic!
Hermione’s words calmed Harry down considerably, making him realize that jealousy was a common emotion. For instance, he occasionally felt envious of Ivan’s privileges in class and his ability to ace exams without much effort.
Perhaps Ron just had weaker self-control.
"I’ll go talk to him!" With this thought, Harry’s anger subsided. He barely touched his food before standing up and speaking.
Seeing Harry’s determined expression, Ivan didn’t stop him.
After Harry left, Ivan turned to the young witches beside him and asked, "Hermione, do you have some time recently? I need your help to practice a spell."
Hermione hesitated. She had a lot on her plate lately.
For example, she was studying the book Ivan had given her, researching the history of house-elves, and, most importantly, keeping up with her studies. She was busy from morning till night.
Despite this, the young witch quickly nodded in agreement, though she asked curiously, "What kind of spell? Is it related to the Triwizard Cup?"
"No, it’s not related to the competition…" Ivan shook his head, then hesitated again. After a long pause, he asked, "Also, this spell is a bit special. I’m not sure if you would be comfortable with it."
In Ivan’s view, memories were the most private and important things a person could have. Everyone had embarrassing moments and dark thoughts they wouldn’t want others to know about.
Putting himself in her shoes, Ivan wouldn’t agree to practice Legilimency with anyone, even if he ignored the factors of his time-traveling and the System.
"Special? Is it dangerous?" Hermione was puzzled by Ivan’s hesitant attitude.
"No, it’s not dangerous. It’s just that during casting, I might see some of your private thoughts", Ivan said carefully.
Private thoughts? Hermione’s mind went blank, and the spoon in her hand slipped and fell to the ground. She almost thought she had misheard.
After a moment, the young witch reacted, fumbling to pick up the spoon. She bumped her head on the table corner in the process…
Ivan realized his words might have been ambiguous. He cleared his throat, intending to clarify, but was cut off.
"I’ve never heard of such magic!" Hermione shouted, her face turning red from her cheeks to her ears. She looked around in a panic, noticing that her outburst had drawn more attention. Her face turned even redder.
"I’m going to the library!" Hermione didn’t give Ivan a chance to explain. She gathered her books haphazardly and hurriedly left.
Ivan was baffled, not understanding why Hermione reacted so strongly.
Was it really that big of a deal? If she didn’t agree, she could have just said so.
"Hals!"
Just as Ivan was feeling amused and confused, a gentle voice came from nearby.
Turning around, he saw a group of young wizards approaching. Their robes indicated they were from Hufflepuff.
Leading them was Cedric!
Hermione, who was about to leave, also stopped. She forgot about the small incident, as the group’s presence clearly indicated they were not there for a friendly chat.
"Cedric, what do you want?" Ivan asked calmly, guessing the reason for their visit as the students surrounded him.
"Yes! It’s about the Champion!" Cedric nodded, looking somewhat embarrassed. However, encouraged by the students behind him, he continued, albeit reluctantly.
"I want to understand where the gap lies. Why did the Triwizard Cup choose you, who are underage, as the Hogwarts Champion? So, Hals, I ask you to duel with me!"
After Cedric spoke, the Hufflepuff students behind him became agitated and began to cheer.
"Right! Whoever wins gets to be the Champion!"
"Let’s have a fair duel; Cedric won’t lose!"
"Cedric is the true Champion of Hogwarts!"
Yesterday, when the Champions were announced at the banquet, the Hufflepuff young wizards were the most dissatisfied with the outcome. They had firmly believed that Cedric would become the Hogwarts Champion.
After all, among the graduating students, Cedric had the best grades. He was also humble and served as the Hufflepuff Prefect. In the entire school, no one over seventeen could match him.
Moreover, Hufflepuff had been too low-key for too long and desperately needed the honor of a Champion!
But who could have expected that the Triwizard Cup would select two Champions, both from Gryffindor, and both underage fourth-year students.
This made them suspect that Ivan and Harry had tampered with the process, taking the Champion spot that rightfully belonged to Cedric!
It was this suspicion that led the usually quiet Hufflepuff students to collectively confront the issue in the Great Hall.
They had initially planned to challenge the weaker Harry, thinking it would be a safer bet.
But Harry, having somehow heard the rumors, fled without even eating, showing a cowardly behavior that was looked down upon.
So they had to change their target to Ivan.
Despite this, they were confident that Cedric would win!
"Haven’t you heard what Headmaster Dumbledore said? Once the Champions are chosen, they can’t be changed… and if the Professors see all of you gathered here, Hufflepuff will surely lose points!" Hermione stepped forward, placing herself between Ivan and Cedric, and urgently tried to reason with them.
However, the Hufflepuff young wizards showed no signs of backing down. Their expressions were resolute, as if they wouldn’t let Ivan leave unless he agreed.
The commotion in the Great Hall drew more and more attention, and many young wizards gathered around, forming a larger circle.
The Gryffindor young wizards, not at all deterred by the situation, openly supported Ivan, urging him to teach Cedric a lesson and prove that the Gryffindor Hero was well-deserved.
Cedric, however, remained unaffected by their words. His eyes were fixed on Ivan. "What do you say, Hals?"
"Sure, no problem!" Ivan didn’t hesitate and immediately agreed. He then considerately asked, "Do you want to have the duel in a more private place?"
A public duel brings glory to the victor but can be embarrassing for the loser.
Of course, Ivan wasn’t worried about losing; he was just being considerate of Cedric’s dignity!
"No, let’s do it here!" Cedric shook his head, declining Ivan’s suggestion.
