Chapter 60: The Suspicious Incense
Chapter 60: The Suspicious Incense
During the banquet, Yu Xiaodao remained unremarkable and showed no signs of anything unusual.
You Longsheng even began to doubt his own suspicions. Perhaps Yu Xiaodao had simply invited them aboard for a meal. After all, he was still known as the tenth-ranked master on the Martial Rankings, the reputable Yu Xiaodao of the East China Sea.
The three of them were not tempting enough for Yu Xiaodao.
You Longsheng was already pondering how to explain the situation to Ding Chengfeng and Ding Baiyun. How could he possibly tell them about something that would happen twenty years from now? He couldn't very well reveal that he knew of Yu Xiaodao's future affiliation with the demonic sect unless he was also a part of it.
However, his attention was drawn to the peculiar incense burner.
"What is it?"
Ding Chengfeng and Ding Baiyun moved closer, curious about his discovery.
You Longsheng pointed at the spiral incense inside the burner. "This incense can burn for three full hours."
Ding Chengfeng nodded in agreement. "Indeed."
You Longsheng then pointed to a specific node on the incense stick. "Take a closer look here."
Before Ding Baiyun could detect anything amiss, Ding Chengfeng's expression changed. "The color is off!"
"After an hour, the incense will be changed," You Longsheng confirmed with a nod.
Ding Baiyun's face paled as she, too, noticed the anomaly. "What's below this section?"
"Whatever it is, it's definitely not the calming incense we're supposed to be smelling," You Longsheng said calmly. "Let's go back to our rooms in a moment and check the incense there as well."
Ding Chengfeng's face darkened with anger. "What a despicable move, and from a senior of the martial arts world, too. What should we do now, You Longsheng?"
You Longsheng shrugged. "We either sneak away right now, or we turn the tables on him later."
If You Longsheng were alone, he would have turned around and fled without a second thought.
However, with the presence of Ding Chengfeng, whose skills were comparable to his own, and the unpredictable Ding Baiyun, the odds of success were in their favor. Moreover, You Longsheng had a few tricks up his sleeve as well.
Ding Chengfeng's voice lowered as he asked, "What is he trying to do?"
"Regardless of what this incense is, it's clearly meant to put us into a deep sleep," You Longsheng replied.
Ding Chengfeng and Ding Baiyun nodded, understanding the gravity of the situation.
"And then that old lecher will make his move on Baiyun," You Longsheng added, his voice grim.
The siblings' faces darkened at the implication, but they couldn't deny the likelihood of such a scenario. After all, there was no known grudge between the Ding family and Yu Xiaodao to warrant such an action.
Yu Xiaodao's lustfulness was renowned.
While he didn't force himself upon others and preferred women who had never been with a man, drugging Ding Baiyun and taking advantage of her unconscious state would still be despicable. And since she was still a virgin, the Ding family would likely keep such a shameful incident a secret.
"Despicable!" Ding Chengfeng muttered under his breath.
Ding Baiyun's face was ashen, and the thought of Yu Xiaodao violating her filled her with dread.
"I'll kill him!" she declared, her eyes flashing with determination.
Ding Chengfeng glanced at his sister, then turned to You Longsheng. "You Longsheng..."
"Then we'll have to be extra cautious," You Longsheng said, his voice steady. "He's not someone to be taken lightly."
The use of "we" by You Longsheng filled the siblings with gratitude. They were about to face off against the infamous Yu Xiaodao of the East China Sea.
"Also, if we do end up in a fight, remember to avoid his white jade flute directly. It's concealed a hidden weapon," You Longsheng warned.
Neither Ding Chengfeng nor Ding Baiyun questioned how You Longsheng had come to this conclusion; after all, his expertise was in the creation of weapons.
"I'll make my move as soon as I hear any noise," Ding Chengfeng said, his voice resolute.
The siblings then turned to You Longsheng, awaiting his plan.
Ding Baiyun bit her lip. "Are you still going to sleep with that vixen?"
You Longsheng winked. "My main goal is to reduce his wariness and test him a bit. I didn't expect him to be so generous. As the saying goes, it's hard to refuse such heartfelt hospitality."
Ding Baiyun's eyes narrowed. "Be careful he doesn't give you a fake pill and let that vixen drain your essence."
"That won't happen," You Longsheng assured her.
"Why not?" Ding Baiyun pressed.
"Because someone as rash and lustful as me poses no threat," You Longsheng replied with a smile.
"Wear it on your index finger and press the protrusion on the side with your thumb."
Ding Baiyun put on the ring and did as instructed. With a slight click, a tiny needle, only a few millimeters long, popped out from the center of the ring.
"A poison needle?"
"Am I such a malicious person?" Yu Longsheng defended himself. "It will only cause his internal energy to dissipate. It takes effect within ten breaths and lasts for half an hour."
Indeed, the Qiqiao Jing contained many intriguing items.
"Why don't you have something more lethal like the Kiss of Death?" Ding Baiyun asked, sounding displeased.
Yu Longsheng retorted, "Do you know who Yu Xiaodao is? What if he counterattacks and stabs you?"
Ding Baiyun remained silent, a hint of a smile playing at the corners of her mouth.
"Alright, go back now." Her smile quickly faded, and she added, "Go wait for that fox spirit!"
Yu Longsheng returned to his room and examined the incense burner. As expected, the incense inside was the same as the one in the other rooms.
Not long after he had returned, there was a soft knock on his door.
"Young Master Yu?"
Yu Longsheng opened the door and found the vixen-eyed woman who had led them earlier standing outside.
"Are you Li Yuqing?"
The woman, Li Yuqing, bowed slightly and sidled into the room with a seductive smile. "I am Li Yuqing. Pleased to meet you, Young Master Yu."
Yu Longsheng noticed the box she was holding. "Is that the Fang Zhong Shu manual?"
Li Yuqing casually opened the box, revealing a book, two ceramic bottles, and two small round boxes. "It contains the manual, as well as internal and external medicines."
Yu Longsheng blinked. "That's quite complicated."
Li Yuqing moved closer to him and purred, "But it's very effective~"
Yu Longsheng's breathing quickened as he hesitated, "This... that..."
Li Yuqing bit her lower lip, her eyes reflecting a hint of disappointment mixed with relief, and then a hint of satisfaction.
She was disappointed by Yu Longsheng's hesitance, relieved that he was reacting normally, and satisfied... after all, Yu Longsheng was quite a handsome man.
Li Yuqing leaned close to Yu Longsheng's ear and gently blew a breath of air, whispering, "Don't worry. If you like me, you can ask your master to let me go back to the Sword-Hiding Villa with you tomorrow. I... I will take good care of you."
Every few years, Yu Xiaodao would replace his batch of young female disciples.
As for those he had grown tired of, they would be in charge of entertaining guests and could even be given to them as gifts.
These female disciples were experts in the art of seduction and were considered rare treasures to others.
Yu Longsheng's eyes glinted, and the corners of his mouth curved up.
However, these female disciples were still Yu Xiaodao's pawns. Those guests were no match for Yu Xiaodao, so as long as he was alive, they dared not betray him.
"Is that really possible?"
"Of course!"
Li Yuqing's eyes were like silk, and she gently leaned against Yu Longsheng, her breath smelling of orchids. "Let's study the Fang Zhong Shu together."
The two of them sat together on the bed and opened the book.
However, much to Li Yuqing's surprise, Yu Longsheng turned out to have abysmal talent. Even before they could begin the actual teachings, she had spent half an hour just explaining the most basic movements and breathing techniques to him.
Finally, after painstakingly explaining everything, when she was about to put her teachings into practice and undress, she suddenly felt her vision darken.
Yu Longsheng quickly extinguished the incense in the burner and blew out the candles in the room.
He was joking, of course. How could he truly give in when they had a fight coming up?
...
An hour later, soft footsteps echoed in the corridor outside the cabins.
