Chapter 60: The Adventure Ends
Chapter 60: The Adventure Ends
It felt like flying through a colorful tunnel for a long time, and then a flash of light. Liam finally felt himself emerge from the tunnel. He opened his eyes and found himself still lying in the sleeping bag inside the alcove shelter.
He scanned his surroundings and noticed the Plants looking a bit wilted, likely due to the intense battles in that world. Liam quickly put them back into the Multiverse General Store.
Next, he checked the Multiverse General Store and found that the Sunlight Crystals were almost completely depleted. Indeed, that world had some connection to the real world.
Liam then took out the Knight's Sword and discovered that, although it looked fine on the outside, all the Magic Runes and even the sword's structure itself had collapsed. He simply lifted the sword and let it fall to the ground, where it shattered like glass.
It seemed that the events in that world had consequences that extended into the real world. Fortunately, Liam had managed to escape, or he would have been doomed.
He couldn't help but praise the Multiverse General Store, which had managed to connect with him and provide assistance even in that strange world. Otherwise, with most of his items unusable, Liam would have been at a severe disadvantage.
After checking all his items, Liam pulled out his pocket watch and was surprised to see it was already four in the afternoon. Taking one last look at the Altar, which now looked like a pile of ordinary stones, he quickly followed the path back to the entrance.
After switching to a Broomstick, the Floo Network, and a taxi, Liam finally made it back to his lodging before dinner.
After dinner, the exhausted Liam went to bed early. Lying in bed, he puzzled over the origin of the Treasure Map. After all, none of the people involved with the Altar had survived to spread the news. So, how did this ancient Treasure Map come to be, and how did they know about it? Liam decided to investigate on Saga Street the next day.
Exhausted, Liam fell asleep quickly and had a peaceful night without any dreams.
The next morning, Liam woke up feeling refreshed. After a quick breakfast, he said goodbye to his parents and headed straight for Saga Street, intending to find the Vampire Thief and ask him about the parchment.
Before entering Saga Street, Liam changed his appearance again. Using quick-dry hair dye, colored contacts, and a variety of cosmetics, he transformed himself into a Eurasian mix and spoke fluent American English (thanks to his past English classes, Liam could speak with an American accent).
Once he entered the street, he didn't immediately start searching. Instead, he began browsing the shops he hadn't thoroughly explored last time, all the while keeping an eye on the street's activities.
There were many interesting shops in the areas he hadn't visited before. For example, there was one that sold specialty foods, most of which could be used as biological weapons, like Swedish herring in a can, fermented shark meat from the local area, and Kiviaq, which involves stuffing a seal's stomach with sea birds and fermenting it for two to three years.
Although these were northern specialties, Liam thought it best not to give them as gifts. Otherwise, he would surely lose friends.
However, Liam did purchase some items from another store. These were fish oils made from deep-sea fish caught using magic and processed with potions. These fish oils were superior to those produced industrially and could be used by Muggles as well. So, he used his pocket money to buy several jars, planning to give them to his parents when he returned home.
This commercial street, located at the intersection of Europe and America, saw a lot of Wizards coming and going. Liam even spotted a sixth-year Hufflepuff senior shopping here. However, since he was currently disguised as someone else, he couldn't go up to greet her.
Finally, around noon, as Liam was finishing his meal, he saw the Thief again. It was worth noting that Wizards weren't very vigilant when it came to Thieves. If a person wearing a hoodie with the brim pulled low, walking suspiciously down the street, were to appear in a Muggle neighborhood, they would be caught very quickly.
Liam stuffed the last piece of black pepper roasted lamb leg into his mouth, laid down his knife and fork, and went out to track the Thief. Honestly, the tracking skills he inherited from the Assassin Legacy were very effective. The Thief didn't even realize he was being followed.
The Thief quickly succeeded, and the victim didn't even notice their wallet was gone. It turned out not every Wizard used a theft-proof magic wallet. When the Thief was about to hide the stolen goods in a passageway between two buildings, concealed by a large poster, Liam used the same trick, dropping from above and knocking him down.
After stripping the Thief down to his underwear, Liam took out a rope and tied him up, then blindfolded him with a handkerchief. He then forced the remaining half bottle of Whisky down the Thief's throat.
After a bout of violent coughing, the Thief regained consciousness and struggled fiercely upon realizing he was in complete darkness. However, being bound, his efforts were futile. Liam, following the methods from the Assassin Legacy, took out a crowbar and began beating the Thief.
"Who are you? What do you want, ah!" The Thief let out a cry of pain, but this place was a carefully chosen hiding spot, so no sound could reach the street outside.
"Tell me, what was drawn on that parchment map last time?" Liam asked, his voice low and menacing.
"Are you the one from last time?" The Thief's voice suddenly became shrill.
"No questions. Answer my question quickly." Liam continued to beat him as he spoke.
The Vampire Thief's lips moved slightly, as if preparing to cast a curse. Liam acted decisively, smashing the crowbar into his mouth. A Vampire's characteristic fang was knocked out, along with half of his teeth. A flash of red light appeared in his throat, confirming that the Vampire Thief was indeed about to cast a curse.
Whether it was due to magical backlash, a concussion from the blows to his head, or the effects of the alcohol, Liam, using his newly learned Life Magic, sensed that the Thief's soul was beginning to become disoriented.
Seizing the opportunity, Liam cast the newly learned Soul Soothing Spell on the disoriented Thief. This spell was meant to calm troubled souls, but in certain situations, it could also make someone reveal the truth.
The spell's effect was even better than expected, possibly because the Thief was already disoriented. Liam quickly asked his question: "Where did that parchment map come from?"
"I made it myself", the Thief mumbled.
