Chapter 60: Secret Martial Arts
Chapter 60: Secret Martial Arts
Zhao Xiangyu didn't rush to answer but instead looked around and, after some thought, said, "Let's find a place to talk."
The two of them entered a meeting room.
It seemed to be the same room where Jiang Cheng had first arrived a few days ago.
Zhao Xiangyu closed the door and sat down in a chair, then began, "That's right, the Wild Wolf Gang is running away, and it will happen within this half a month."
"Within this half a month?"
Jiang Cheng was both surprised and delighted upon hearing this news.
He was surprised that the Wild Wolf Gang had fallen so quickly; he had thought they could last for two or three months like some of the gangs from a few years ago.
His delight stemmed from the fact that this period of turmoil would end sooner, and the sweet potato business could resume earlier. When he returned at noon and shared this news with Chen Sao, she would surely be happy too.
"Yes," Zhao Xiangyu replied, his emotions seemingly unchanged.
"Jiang Shidi, you may not be aware, but the Iron Fist Gang on the adjacent street has been fighting with the Wild Wolf Gang for almost two months. The Wild Wolf Gang has lost more than they've won, and it's only a matter of time before they hand over this street. Just the day before yesterday, the two gangs had a platform fight."
"Platform fight?" Jiang Cheng asked curiously.
"Yes, both sides sent three people each, drew lots to choose opponents, and then fought one-on-one. It's a best of three, and the losing side has to withdraw from this street."
"So, the Wild Wolf Gang lost?"
"They lost, and it was a terrible defeat."
A hint of reluctance appeared on Zhao Xiangyu's face.
"The three people sent by the Wild Wolf Gang were all experts within the gang, and one of them was even one of the Wild Wolf Gang's Three Great Kings. He was killed on the platform by a young man from the Iron Fist Gang."
"Three Great Kings?" Jiang Cheng's face showed a hint of strangeness.
"Jiang Shidi, since you haven't been in a gang, it's natural that you don't know about this. If we weren't dealing with them, we wouldn't want to get involved in these matters."
Zhao Xiangyu chuckled, "The so-called Three Great Kings are the three best fighters in the Wild Wolf Gang. One of them could take on more than a dozen people without breaking a sweat. Unfortunately, one of the other two Kings is already dead, and the other is sick. Only this one could still participate, but he didn't have to go up. He went anyway, and his illustrious reputation was used as a stepping stone for others. What a pity."
"So that's how it is," Jiang Cheng nodded.
Perhaps that person was indeed a formidable figure, but Jiang Cheng didn't feel much about it and even thought it was good that he died.
Gang members are never good people.
"So, Zhao Shixiong, after half a month, the Iron Fist Gang will take over here, right?"
"That's right."
Zhao Xiangyu sighed lightly.
The Iron Fist Gang wasn't some savior; their arrival wouldn't bring happiness to the people here.
In fact, each subsequent gang would exploit the people more than the previous one.
"Jiang Shidi, you don't need to worry about this," he reassured.
"You are a senior member of our Flying Eagle Fist Gym. No matter who controls this street in the future, whether it's the Wild Wolf Gang or the Iron Fist Gang, they won't harm you. Moreover, our gym's membership fees haven't increased in so many years. If you don't believe me, you can ask those elders; they can all testify to this."
"I believe what Zhao Shixiong says," Jiang Cheng said.
Jiang Cheng sighed, "Those gangs keep coming one after another. Ordinary people can only be at their mercy. This time, the management fee has doubled. In less than half a month, the Iron Fist Gang will arrive, and at that time, we'll probably have to pay another fee. I don't know how many people will be forced out of their homes."
Upon hearing these words, Zhao Xiangyu was taken aback, and his gaze towards Jiang Cheng also underwent a slight change.
"Jiang Shidi, don't overthink it. This isn't something you or I can change. Focus your energy on martial arts, and if you encounter danger, even if you can't fight them off, you should be able to run away."
"You're right, Zhao Shixiong."
"Actually, if you hadn't asked me today, I would have reminded you of this."
"Hmm?"
"The Wild Wolf Gang is leaving, and for the next half a month, this area won't be peaceful. I don't know what they'll do, but logically, our martial arts hall should still have a deterrent effect on them. But you can never be too careful. What if one of them has the idea of making a quick profit and running away..."
Zhao Xiangyu looked at Jiang Cheng, "Jiang Shidi, you must be careful on your way back tonight. It's best to avoid them. If you're blocked, show your membership card immediately. If that doesn't work, then cooperate with them for the time being and come to the martial arts hall tomorrow to discuss it further."
Before Jiang Cheng could speak, Zhao Xiangyu apologized, "I'm really sorry, Jiang Shidi. Normally, they wouldn't stop a premium member, but it just so happens to be a special time. For your safety, it's best if you don't go out for the next half a month until this blows over."
"Thank you for the reminder, Shixiong. Half a month is quite a long time, though."
Jiang Cheng forced a bitter smile.
He was relying on selling sweet potatoes to repay Chen Sao's debt and cover the upcoming premium membership fee.
"That's true," Zhao Xiangyu sighed.
"If such a thing does happen, Jiang Shidi, our martial arts hall will definitely help you get justice," Zhao Xiangyu assured him.
Jiang Cheng's heart sank, and he didn't hold out much hope. According to Zhao Xiangyu's words, the Wild Wolf Gang, having decided to rob and run, would most likely not stay in the area afterward.
"Do you have any other questions, Jiang Shidi?" Zhao Xiangyu asked.
"If I must say, there is one question," Jiang Cheng replied, feeling a bit tense.
"Oh, what is it?" Zhao Xiangyu smiled.
"I didn't have any questions until I heard you mention the Iron Fist Gang and the Wild Wolf Gang's arena battle. I'm curious, and I hope you won't be angry if I ask, Zhao Shixiong."
"Go ahead and ask," Zhao Xiangyu said without hesitation.
"Those experts from the gangs, as you said, can fight a dozen people. I'm curious, are they like us, practicing martial arts and fist techniques, or have they learned secret arts?" Jiang Cheng asked, his voice trembling slightly as he spoke the last two words.
As he uttered the words 'secret arts', Jiang Cheng's heart raced, and he finally voiced his question. He expected Zhao Xiangyu to show surprise or fear, but he didn't.
Zhao Xiangyu maintained his usual smile and replied, "Of course, they practice martial arts and fist techniques, just like us."
"Is that so?" Jiang Cheng feigned surprise, "I had no idea that mastering fist techniques could allow one to fight a dozen people."
"In theory, yes, but in reality, very few can achieve that. The Wild Wolf Gang has only three of their Three Great Kings, while the Iron Fist Gang has five such experts, not counting other factors. Just based on this, the Wild Wolf Gang is bound to lose."
"As for secret arts..." Zhao Xiangyu trailed off.
