Chapter 60: Pidgeot Finds the Trick
Chapter 60: Pidgeot Finds the Trick
Just as Naoki was deep in thought, Pidgeot returned from its milk delivery, eager to show off.
It hastily removed the small red bag it carried and flew eagerly to Naoki, its eyes bright and eager. "Pidgeot!" it cried.
Naoki smiled helplessly and said, "Alright, alright, I'll take you there now."
The intruder in the chicken coop, for now, seemed to have no malicious intent, and with its tiny stature compared to the chickens, Naoki wasn't worried about any harm coming to his hens. He set the matter aside for the moment and turned his attention to training Pidgeot.
Pidgeot's sleek body wasn't ideal for riding in the rain, and as it was still mastering its moves, it wasn't the most stable mount.
So, Naoki chose to ride Gouleston into the sky instead.
Donning a raincoat, he mounted Gouleston and nodded to Pidgeot, who flapped its wings and soared into the rainy sky.
Naoki and Gouleston followed closely behind.
The sky above was shrouded in dark clouds, with faint flashes of lightning and rumbling thunder brewing within. When the storm reached its peak, it would explode at the horizon.
This kind of weather was perfect for lazing around in a cozy cottage.
However, Naoki had promised Pidgeot, and he intended to keep his word.
Naoki slowly exhaled, and suddenly, a clap of thunder startled him, sending a shiver of fear through his heart.
The power of nature...
He held onto Gouleston tightly and looked up.
Come to think of it, Gouleston shouldn't attract lightning, right? But if a bolt did strike, while Gouleston, being a legendary Pokemon, would be unharmed, he, as an ordinary human, would be in big trouble.
Perhaps sensing Naoki's fear, Gouleston turned and let out a reassuring cry, "Gouleston!"
It sped up and plunged headlong into the thundercloud, piercing through and emerging above the dark clouds.
Suddenly, the rain stopped.
Naoki gazed at the scene below and thanked Gouleston.
For the first time at this altitude, Naoki felt a bit breathless, and it took him a while to adjust.
Pidgeot flew up to join them.
Naoki spotted a patch of cloud that looked relatively calm and instructed Pidgeot, "Pay close attention to the Water-type energy around you. Feel the process of how the rain forms and falls. Then try to imitate it and control it!"
Pidgeot listened intently, though it didn't quite understand. It lowered its altitude slightly, immersing itself in the rain, and closed its eyes to sense the surroundings.
Naoki had Gouleston descend to a distance where he could observe Pidgeot.
Time passed slowly, and the rain showed no signs of letting up.
"Looks like this rain will last all day," Naoki muttered to himself.
Just then, lightning began to crackle within the clouds above.
Before Naoki could react, a bolt of lightning struck down.
And its target was none other than Pidgeot below.
The next second, Pidgeot was struck by lightning.
Yellow electricity instantly coursed through its body.
"Pidgeot!" Naoki shouted.
The heavy rain poured down, and Pidgeot grit its teeth, enduring the pain.
Naoki's mind raced as he watched Pidgeot enveloped in lightning. Suddenly, a bold idea came to mind.
"Pidgeot, stay calm! Try to control that electricity and release it!" Naoki said in a low voice.
Pidgeot heard his voice from a distance.
It clenched its jaw and struggled to manipulate the lightning energy that had struck it.
"Pidgeot!"
A long cry echoed, and a powerful energy suddenly burst from Pidgeot's body.
That move...
It was Thunder Bolt!
No doubt about it! It was that classic move Pikachu used, always a favorite of Satoshi's!
Only after Pidgeot released all the Electric-type energy from its body did it finally calm down.
It looked rather disheveled, with minor injuries from the lightning strike. The dragon scales on its body, originally a milky yellow, had turned charred black where the lightning had hit.
"Multiscale?" Naoki's heart stirred as he finally understood the nature of this Pidgeot.
Multiscale - when at full health, damage taken is reduced.
"How do you feel?" Naoki asked.
"Pidgeot..."
The small dragon wings on Pidgeot's back fluttered slightly as it looked down at its charred scales, its face falling into an aggrieved expression.
What bad luck, to be struck by lightning out of nowhere!
It extended its chubby claws and sadly stroked its scales.
Suddenly, a strand of residual electricity surged from its claws.
"Pidgeot?!"
Startled, Pidgeot quickly shook its claws.
But the next second, more electricity surged forth, enveloping its fist.
"Pidgeot?"
Pidgeot held up its large claw, its face full of bewilderment as it stared at it.
What's going on? What happened? Is this a new move?
Pidgeot looked at Naoki, seeking an answer to what had just happened.
Looking at Pidgeot's fist, Naoki understood and smiled, "You could say this is a blessing in disguise. Congratulations, Pidgeot, this is Thunder Punch. You can use it to attack your opponents, and those you hit may even fall into a paralyzed state. All in all, it's a very useful move."
"Pidgeot!"
Hearing this, Pidgeot immediately beamed with joy, its big eyes shining brightly, and its disheveled face broke into a silly grin.
"Now, can you use that Thunder Bolt move again? Try to burst out all the Electric-type energy in your body for an attack." Naoki continued.
"Pidgeot..."
Pidgeot began to give it a try.
It focused its mind, attempting to control and burst out the Electric-type energy within its body.
However, it failed.
Compared to before, the Electric-type energy within Pidgeot's body seemed weaker and insufficient to support the powerful Thunder Bolt move.
Pidgeot looked a little dejected.
Naoki comforted, "You've done very well. From my observation, your internal energy is still quite weak, and you lack experience. With more practice and effort, I'm sure you'll be able to master it."
Encouraged by Naoki's words, Pidgeot regained its fighting spirit.
Now, it was time to continue mastering Rain Dance!
"Pidgeot!"
Pidgeot raised its head, gazing at the pouring rain with unprecedented seriousness.
After these days of hard work and guidance from Naoki, it felt it had gradually grasped the techniques and tricks of learning moves.
Moves were closely related to a Pokemon's internal energy and their ability to control it.
To use a move, one must first learn how to manipulate the energy of the corresponding type.
So, the next step was...
Pidgeot closed its eyes again, focusing on feeling the endless raindrops around it.
They formed in the sky, dripping from the clouds, falling to the earth, nourishing all life.
The gentle breeze, the raindrops, the airflow, the clouds...
