Chapter 60: Norton Sage, the Great Pirate
Chapter 60: Norton Sage, the Great Pirate
The tempest darkened the surroundings, and amidst the gloom, a sinister sight emerged: a sky filled with darkness, upon which a skull emblazoned with flames floated. It gazed down upon the mortal world from the heavens, a portent of doom.
Rumbling filled the air!
Lightning cracked through the somber sky once more, tearing through the gloom that had enveloped the port, revealing a colossal sail illuminated by the flash.
It was not a celestial calamity but a black canvas painted with a starry sky and a skull, fluttering atop a massive black ship that loomed ever closer, now docked at the port.
As the fleeting glow illuminated the scene, they caught glimpses of dark figures teeming on the gigantic vessel, their sinister grins bared as they gazed upon those below, their appearance all the more terrifying amidst the raging storm.
A throng of pirates brandishing weapons descended from the ship, their eyes fierce and malicious as they fixed upon the navy and pirate forces gathered at the port.
"I am the invincible Paru!"
The lead pirate, with arms outstretched, boasted confidently, his voice filled with arrogance.
Whoosh!
As his words echoed, a figure leaped from the ship, brandishing a fan-like object in their hand. They descended swiftly, landing atop the head of a pirate wielding dual blades.
Bang!
The spinning iron ball connected with the pirate's skull, sending him flying with the force of the blow.
Simultaneously, the figure's other hand lashed out, striking another pirate with the iron ball. The impact propelled the unfortunate recipient backward, colliding with a cluster of over ten pirates and sending them all tumbling across the port.
"Do not obstruct Captain Sage's path."
The figure stood, shouldering their staff, their voice cold and indifferent as they declared those words.
From the ship's stairs, a horde of people clad in prisoner uniforms poured forth, in stark contrast to the orderly ranks of pirates armed with weapons. These new arrivals were weaponless, yet their faces bore malicious grins, and their eyes held a keen, eager glint as they surveyed those before them.
Their numbers were vast, and they swiftly occupied a significant portion of the port, effectively surrounding and entrapping the navy and pirate forces that had been locked in battle.
With over a thousand pirates from more than ten ships joining the fray and an even greater number of navy forces engaged in the conflict, the port erupted into chaos. However, amidst the turmoil, it was evident that the newcomers had the upper hand in terms of numbers, and their unified front created an illusion of being the besieging force rather than the besieged.
Moreover,
The lieutenant, despite his better judgment, reached up to wipe his sweat-drenched forehead. His gaze fixed upon the prisoners, and his voice trembled as he spoke: "The rumors are true..."
'Iron Wall' Paru and 'Ghost Man' Ajin—these were names that carried some weight in the East Blue Sea, and the lieutenant was no stranger to them. However, that was not the crux of the matter.
Before their affiliation with the Heavenly Disaster Pirate Crew, they could be considered somewhat notorious. But now, as members of that infamous crew, they were marked individuals, for their presence signaled the arrival of the Heavenly Disaster Pirate Crew itself.
Especially those clad in prisoner uniforms.
This incident had not made the news, and even the wanted posters had not yet been updated to reflect this development. However, as members of the East Blue Sea navy stationed near the Grand Line, particularly in Loguetown, they had received whispers of this intelligence.
The Heavenly Disaster Pirate Crew, led by Sage, had shattered the massive bridge of the Kingdom of Lv Nie, abducting a portion of the laborers to bolster their pirate ranks. Even the formidable Admiral Kapu had been unable to halt their escape.
Of course, that was just hearsay, and no one dared confirm it.
But now, the appearance of these prisoners seemed to validate that rumor.
With the prisoners, as well as Ajin and Paru, it was clear that the Heavenly Disaster crew had arrived!
"There are so many of them!"
On the stairs, Renetia, cloaked in a rain cape, peered through the rain with her hand over her brow. She quickly descended to the port, clicking her tongue. "Fighting in the rain, you're all so filthy! The ground is covered in mud; it's disgusting!"
A burly pirate with thick body hair brandished his knife angrily. "Hey, brat! Who are you calling disgusting?!"
Bang!
Renetia pulled out a small tool hammer, twisted its handle, and extended a pipe the size of a baby's arm from the hammerhead. She unleashed a spark that exploded into a cloud of black smoke, engulfing the pirate and sending him crashing to the ground, charred and blackened.
"Don't talk to me so casually, you ape-like hairy freak! Go take a dip in the sea to get rid of that body odor next time!" Renetia growled.
She was only being polite to Sage, as well as the other two women; everyone else was fair game for her temper. After all, she had destroyed half the town when she stole those shipbuilding materials.
"Oh my, it's quite lively here."
Behind Renetia, Marika donned a large fur hat to shield herself from the rain and descended the stairs slowly. She surveyed the scene with a smile, taking in the standoff between the navy and the pirates. "It seems we've attracted quite a bit of attention."
"Of course, with this storm, we were bound to draw eyes. Sage wanted to keep a low profile, entering Rogue Town under the cover of rain and leaving as soon as we grabbed what we needed. But now, it looks like someone beat us to it."
Renetia clicked her tongue again. "We've attracted the attention of the navy, and now we have more trouble. Why can't they just get struck by lightning? Those annoying navy guys and smelly pirates!"
"They're just doing their job to protect the people. Don't be so harsh," Marika chuckled, patting Renetia's head gently through her rain cape.
"You there..." The lieutenant didn't recognize these two, but seeing how the others made way for them, they must be officers of some sort. He was about to ask a question when something else caught his eye, and he looked up toward the top of the stairs.
At the junction of the stairs and the ship's deck stood a woman holding an exquisitely crafted large umbrella, sheltering those in front of her from the storm. The lieutenant recognized her.
"Biendetta Lily!" The lieutenant's voice was sharp with recognition.
With a bounty of three hundred million berries, she was valued at the same price as the Straw Hat kid who had caused a ruckus with the execution platform in Rogue Town some time ago. And now...
"Hahahaha! What a lively scene!"
Under the umbrella, a man laughed heartily and descended the stairs, his jewels and ornaments glittering. The laborers around him automatically parted, creating a wide path for him as he strode into the port and right to the front.
The white-haired man with his bejeweled smile was just as he appeared on the wanted poster.
"What brings a man like you to Rogue Town?"
The man who had brought destruction to three... No, with the bridge incident, it was four kingdoms. A great sinner whose very presence could turn a place into ruins—a disaster in the stormy sea.
A great pirate, a heavenly disaster—Norton Sage!
"Lieutenant Norton Sage!" The navy lieutenant shouted.
