Chapter 60: Learning Sealing Techniques
Chapter 60: Learning Sealing Techniques
On Sunday afternoon, after finishing her disciples' training, Mu Yue headed to the main residential area. Instead of returning home, she went straight to Mizukage's residence.
The night before, while having dinner at Mu Yue's place, Kushina and Minato had mentioned that they had almost perfected their practice attempts and would officially start making the dish the next afternoon. They invited Mu Yue to come over and watch if she was free.
When Mu Yue arrived, the couple had just finished boiling the pork belly and were about to add soy sauce for coloring.
As Mu Yue stepped forward to help, Kushina stopped her.
"Mu Yue, you can just observe and point out any mistakes in the process. There's no need to help," Kushina said.
As TenTen had crashed at Mu Yue's place the night before, Kushina felt it would be impolite to have her help.
Minato brought over a fruit plate and poured Mu Yue a glass of water, offering it with a gentle smile, "Mu Yue, you can relax today and be our supervisor instead."
Both Minato and Kushina felt that they should handle this on their own this time.
"Then I shall be lazy this time," Mu Yue said with a smile.
"You can prick some small holes in the pork skin with a skewer before pouring in the soy sauce. This way, the flavor will penetrate the meat better, and it will also make the meat fluffier when deep-fried," Mu Yue suggested.
Only then did Kushina and Minato realize they had forgotten about this small but important detail.
With Mu Yue's guidance, Kushina and Minato smoothly completed each step—deep-frying, slicing, preparing the sauce, and steaming.
By the time they finished, night had fallen.
"This braised pork belly is delicious, but it's quite a hassle to make. Mu Yue, you must be hungry," Kushina said.
Compared to the usual dishes she made, this braised pork belly was much more complicated. It was surprising that a single dish required boiling, deep-frying, and steaming.
"I'm fine. After all, I was just watching from the side," Mu Yue replied.
As they were talking, Minato brought over the freshly made braised pork belly.
"Now, Teacher Mu Yue, please give us our scores," Minato joked.
"Why don't you two taste the fruits of your labor first?" Instead of rushing to taste it herself, Mu Yue chose to let Minato and Kushina have the first bite.
"Then let's eat together," said a hungry Kushina, deciding to skip the formalities.
The three quickly served themselves rice and dug in without further ado.
"Yes! This is the feeling of being fatty yet not greasy!" Kushina exclaimed as she picked up a slice of meat with her chopsticks and popped it into her mouth, followed by a mouthful of rice. Her face lit up with excitement, and she felt a sense of accomplishment.
She felt that her time hadn't been wasted, and she had successfully learned to make a delicious dish.
Although she felt that Mu Yue's cooking still tasted better, Kushina thought that there probably wasn't anyone in the world who could cook better than Mu Yue. It was only natural to be a little inferior to the best, right?
"When Jiraiya returns, I must make this for him to try," Minato said between bites.
Minato was also very pleased with how the dish turned out, and he wanted to share it with Jiraiya.
"Hmm, it's well done and has no major flaws," Mu Yue praised after taking a bite.
It wasn't just flattery; the dish was originally a simple home-cooked meal, and with her guidance along the way, the end product was bound to be good.
However, an awkward moment soon followed as the three of them quickly finished the pork belly, leaving them staring at each other with hungry eyes.
"Sorry, I forgot to make other dishes," Minato said, realizing the now-empty plate.
"We were too focused and completely forgot about it," Kushina said, letting out an embarrassed smile.
"I'll cook a couple of other dishes," Mu Yue offered as she got up.
"That doesn't seem right. You're our guest. How can we let the guest cook?" Kushina hesitated, feeling that it wasn't appropriate.
"Then should I go home and cook and bring it over?"
Kushina thought about the delicious meals Mu Yue had prepared and finally nodded in agreement.
"Mu Yue, you seem interested in sealing techniques. Have you been learning any recently? I can teach you some tips and tricks," Kushina asked, unable to contain her curiosity any longer as she sat idly at the table.
Having freeloaded at Mu Yue's place, Kushina felt it was only right to offer something in return.
"I've mostly been reading theory books so far. Do you have any recommendations for sealing techniques, preferably something available in the library?" Mu Yue asked thoughtfully.
"If you haven't started learning yet, I can teach you a basic sealing technique passed down in the Uzumaki clan. It will also help test your aptitude for sealing techniques. If you can master it within a day, you're a sealing genius. If you take a week, you have talent, but if it takes longer than a month, it might not be worth investing too much time in this field," Kushina explained.
"How long did it take you to learn it, Kushina?" Mu Yue asked as she began to heat up the wok and pour in oil.
"A day," Kushina replied proudly, her face beaming with satisfaction. She had been waiting for Mu Yue to ask.
"Then you must be a sealing genius!" Mu Yue exclaimed.
"It's nothing special," Kushina said, trying to downplay her achievement, but a proud smile had already formed at the corners of her mouth.
After the meal, Kushina handed Mu Yue a scroll and went to wash the dishes while Mizukage began explaining the sealing technique to Mu Yue.
Mu Yue listened intently with a level of seriousness unlike anything before.
"This sealing technique is called 'One-Finger Swift Seal.' It creates a rapid seal that blocks chakra, but the binding force is not very strong, and it can be easily broken. It's not very useful in actual combat and is mainly used for beginner training," Mizukage explained.
Whether it was due to Mizukage's advanced sealing skill or Mu Yue's natural talent, the 'One-Finger Seal' seemed surprisingly simple to Mu Yue. However, she kept her thoughts to herself and only asked questions from time to time.
...
On Monday, Gangzi Tie arrived early at the Ninja School and was pleased to see that Shen Yue Yun hadn't arrived yet. He placed a novel on the desk and started reading.
When he sensed that Shen Yue Yun was about to arrive, he put away his textbook and left only the novel on the desk.
"Tie, I thought you said you didn't need to review? Why are you here so early?" Shen Yue Yun asked in surprise, having stayed up studying until 1 a.m. the previous night.
Gangzi Tie waved the novel in his hand and said, "Who's reviewing? This is a new ninja novel that just came out, and it's fantastic!"
Seeing the cover and title, Shen Yue Yun breathed a sigh of relief and smiled. "Reading novels to relax is a great idea."
"So, Tie likes to read novels. I'll buy him a bestselling novel tomorrow and let him read it for two weeks," Shen Yue Yun thought to himself, feeling increasingly confident about securing first place.
"You don't look very energetic, Yun. Didn't you stay up late studying? That's not good for your health or exam performance," Gangzi Tie said with feigned concern.
"No, I was playing games with my cousins last night and lost track of time," Shen Yue Yun replied casually.
"Playing games to relax is not a bad idea either," Gangzi Tie smiled, feeling even more confident about his plan.
He decided to find out more about various games during lunch break so that he could ensure Shen Yue Yun spent the next two weeks playing non-stop.
"What novel? What game?" Anko Mitarashi asked as she entered the classroom, intrigued.
Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday are crucial! Please keep reading!
