Chapter 60: Lanchi's Bright Future in the Demon World
Chapter 60: Lanchi's Bright Future in the Demon World
As the lights dimmed in the theater after the performance, the stage lights slowly converged, leaving only a lingering aura hovering over the stage, shrouded in mystery and lingering chaos.
After a moment's thought, Lanchi decided to seize this opportunity to inquire further from the Director of Music.
However, Lanchi couldn't interrogate the director as he had Bachle, directly asking if there had been any unforeseen circumstances at the school.
He didn't want to arouse the director's suspicion rashly.
So, he opted for a more reasonable approach:
"By the way, Director, any idea when the principal will be back?"
"It's hard to say. After a high-level meeting at the school a few days ago, the principal went to the Demon World Education Bureau. But rest assured, the school is functioning as normal. The vice-principal can handle everything except matters that require the principal's signature and seal."
The director shook his head as he replied.
"A high-level meeting?" Lanchi murmured, appearing merely curious and not at all probing. "Whenever there's a meeting that only involves the principal, vice-principal, and a few senior professors, there must be some trouble. But don't worry about it; it's not our place to meddle, and there's no need to be too concerned. This school has several prominent alumni who are Great Demons of the Demon World, so as long as we follow the rules, even the Education Bureau won't dare act recklessly."
Those who were referred to as Great Demons in the Demon World were powerful beings of the eighth tier or higher, each wielding immense influence.
The director couldn't predict whether the young Brilliant Demon before him would one day join their ranks and attain a unique title of his own.
"Oh, I see," Lanchi nodded eagerly.
He felt that the 'danger tonight' mentioned in Task Objective 2 was most likely related to the content of this high-level meeting.
However.
To obtain more critical clues.
It was likely necessary to venture into classrooms with a higher difficulty level of 3, where more senior teachers resided.
Additionally, the small team of just Lanchi and Hyberlian might not be sufficient for this high-difficulty task. They would need to collaborate and exchange information with the other four challengers to unravel the truth behind Task Objective 2, which was the real challenge of this fourth-tier shadow world.
Of course, an unexpected alternative path to success seemed to present itself to Lanchi at this moment—
If he could somehow climb the ranks to the school's upper management.
He might be able to skip all the troublesome decryption steps altogether.
Unfortunately.
He could only remain in this academy for 10 more hours.
Ascending this unconventional route to success seemed rather difficult.
...
After further conversation with the Director of Music, Lanchi turned back to the audience and gestured to Hyberlian.
"Hyberlian, it's your turn to perform!"
Lanchi waved his hand, inviting Hyberlian to step into this musical sanctum and begin her performance.
"Coming," Hyberlian whispered.
She slowly rose from her seat, her shoulders straight and her gaze determined, as she strode purposefully through the musical hell that Lanchi had created.
Despite the terrifying music still assaulting her eardrums and shredding her nerves, Hyberlian felt as if she had found a semblance of balance amidst the endless torment.
To her surprise, she even felt that she had developed a certain resistance to musical magic due to Lanchi's rigorous training in this classroom!
Meanwhile, on the stage, the Director of Music resumed his role as the host of the performance assessment.
He just wanted to get this over with and send Lanchi on his way, having no desire to continue indulging the young demon's antics.
However, due to the drastic change in the classroom's situation and the addition of four more music mentors, he felt compelled to explain the new circumstances to Hyberlian, who was still able to perform.
Currently, the entire classroom had fallen into an automated loop.
The Sleeping Devil, constantly alternating between consciousness and unconsciousness, would approve of any performance, as he was destined to fall asleep during each one.
And as a music mentor, Lanchi had already expressed to the Director of Music that his musical philosophy was one of great love and inclusivity. He would respect any form of art as long as the students could perform on stage.
In other words, as long as the students could make a sound on stage, Lanchi would acknowledge them.
So now there were guaranteed acknowledgments from two music mentors.
Thus, a new phase began.
Hyberlian stepped onto the stage, enveloped in the audience's hellish screams.
She stood there, bearing the endless pressure from the crowd, and sang with gritted teeth.
"Your singing is absolutely heavenly! It's a pleasure to the ears!"
After a round of insincere flattery from Lanchi, Hyberlian surprisingly passed the assessment.
"?!""
Hyberlian couldn't fathom how Lanchi could bring himself to say such things.
With a straight face, she returned to the audience and dragged Bachle onto the stage, where he howled incoherently like a man in a fit of epilepsy for two minutes.
"Perfect! Nothing short of perfect!"
With the sole sober judge Lanchi's approval, Bachle somehow passed as well.
Bachle himself had no idea how he managed to pass.
...
The last few minutes of the class finally dragged to a close.
The first lesson of this Devil King's Theater, shrouded in hellish music, had come to an end.
The sound of an ancient bell signaling the end of class seemed to pierce through the walls of the entire Inferno Corridor Academy, reverberating in the empty corridors and every classroom.
This marked the first 30-minute break.
Unusually, as soon as the class ended, the spacious corridor was deserted, with not a single student in sight.
After a while, three students finally emerged from the back door.
Out of all the students in the classroom on Corridor G24 - the Devil King's Theater, only three had survived.
And one of them was being dragged out like a corpse.
...
Meanwhile, on Corridor F13.
[Time Remaining: 9 hours, 59 minutes]
[Task Objective 1: Explore more than 60% of the academy, current progress: 10%]
[...]
A young man frowned at the 10% progress.
"Logically speaking, entering a classroom with one imprint on the door should increase the progress by 1%, and we gained another 1% when we passed it.
"In other words, we contributed 2% to the exploration progress."
"Then why is it already at 10%?"
He muttered to himself, perplexed.
Could it be that the other two teams contributed 4% each, and only we fell short? Or... is there a single team that contributed a full 6%...?"
"Big brother, do you think there's an incredibly skilled person in the same batch as us?" The girl next to him finally looked up at him, her eyes filled with a mix of prayer and penitence.
"..."
The young man shook his head, lips pressed together.
"This kind of absurd evil theme is among the most dangerous even in a fourth-tier shadow world. Normal humans simply can't adapt to the ethics and rules of this ancient demon world... Even among Gold-rank challengers, there are hardly any who specialize in demon-themed shadow worlds."
And the two of them, Silver-rank challengers who worshipped a benevolent god of order, found it even more difficult to accept being associated with demons - pretending to be demons and imitating their behavior was a form of torture for them.
As he spoke, the girl took a deep breath, as if she was starting to feel afraid.
"Do you think... there's a real demon among the challengers?"
