Chapter 60: Crisis
Chapter 60: Crisis
Thanks to the enhanced firepower of the energy pulse rifles, even though these Void Demons had bodies far stronger than their peers, they could be taken down with a single shot at the First-Class energy level. This significantly sped up Lao Chi and the ten Fire Holly Soldier Automatons in clearing out the Void Demons.
Zap zap zap!
Bursts of energy pulses rained down, one Zero-Class Void Demon after another was slain. Their bodies fell from the sky, crashing into the semi-spherical energy shield of the marketplace, then sliding down to pile up around the market.
Fizz fizz fizz!
The intense corrosion sounds from the shield made Lao Chi frown. The black blood from the Void Demons' bodies dripped onto the shield, causing severe damage. This black blood was scorching hot and highly corrosive, rapidly depleting the energy shield's protective barrier.
Faced with this situation, Lao Chi couldn't find a solution immediately.
To repel these Void Demons, he had to kill as many as possible. However, every attack released the highly corrosive blood, creating an unresolvable contradiction.
Glancing at the energy shield's protection value, he saw it was about to drop below the 20,000-point threshold, making him increasingly anxious.
The Skyward, having successfully advanced to First-Class and equipped with an orange energy shield component, was indeed formidable. It could still counter and kill over a hundred Void Demons even while being besieged by dozens of First-Class and hundreds of Zero-Class Void Demons.
However, as the saying goes, even the strongest force has its limits.
After holding out for nearly half an hour against the hundreds of Void Demons, even the powerful dark matter energy shield generator was now at its limit. The shield's value had dropped below 10%, and it was on the verge of total overload.
Yet, even in this dire situation, Lao Chi couldn't allow the Skyward to retreat into the market. If the Skyward retreated, the over 500 remaining Void Demons would immediately turn their attention to the marketplace. The energy shield, already about to drop below 20,000 points, could not withstand the onslaught of so many demons.
"Damn it, I have to find a way. If this continues, the Skyward will be sunk."
Lao Chi's mind was a whirlwind of calculations, but he couldn't find a solution. He had already used most of his trump cards. Could he conjure more out of thin air?
To make matters worse, after over half an hour of intense mental strain, Lao Chi's own body was starting to waver.
He had to remotely control the Skyward for attacks and evasions, command the Fire Holly Soldier Automatons, and personally aim the energy pulse rifle repeatedly. Now, he had to think of a further strategy. Juggling all these tasks was far beyond simple multitasking.
Gritting his teeth against the sharp pain in his head, Lao Chi persisted. He deeply missed the temporary state of heightened focus he had accidentally entered before. If he could briefly enter a state of three-way multitasking, he wouldn't be so overwhelmed.
Unfortunately, those two previous instances were mere luck. He hadn't truly mastered the technique, and the prolonged mental focus over the past half-hour had not helped him find that state again. It was a bitter disappointment.
Lowering the energy pulse rifle in his hand, Lao Chi pulled out two energy grenades from behind his back. Before his last interstellar exploration, he had bought five in total. He used three when trading with the Brain-Eating Race's Ultrawave Mainbrain, leaving him with only these two.
Identifying a cluster of over twenty zero-stage and first-stage Void Demons, Song Chi threw an energy grenade with all his might.
The energy grenade traced a straight line through the void, landing precisely among the group of more than twenty Void Demons.
Boom!
A powerful first-stage energy explosion followed, and more than half of the twenty Void Demons were instantly felled. Only a few peripheral zero-stage Void Demons and three first-stage Void Demons managed to survive. The energy grenade had directly killed fifteen zero-stage Void Demons.
His brief moment of triumph was quickly overshadowed by a series of bad news.
Outside the marketplace, the energy shield of the Celestial Dawn airship was completely overloaded. The attacks from the surrounding Void Demons began to strike the airship's hull directly, causing damage to its armor and the ship itself.
Inside the marketplace, the protective shield of the Psionic Array had dropped below twenty thousand, and the rate of its decay accelerated terrifyingly under the corrosive effects of the Void Demons' scorching black blood.
Song Chi's heart sank to the bottom. If this continued, the Psionic Array would shatter before they could repel the Void Demons, and the entire marketplace would fall.
As the owner of the Marketplace of All Realms, he could harness the secret realm's laws for internal use, but not for external combat.
Once the Psionic Array shattered, the balance of the entire secret realm would be disrupted, and the laws of the realm would fall into chaos. It would be impossible to control them to fight the Void Demons that had breached the marketplace.
This was an impossible situation, a deadlock that he could not escape.
At this moment, thoughts he had never entertained before began to surface in Song Chi's mind. He knew he had to consider his next move. If the Marketplace of All Realms could not be saved, he could not stay and perish with it.
The Dawnstar Principality was vast, the Ember Human civilization was expansive, and the Shattered Star Sea was boundless. There was still so much for him to experience, witness, and pursue.
Having finally arrived in this grand era of the star seas, he wanted to live for two hundred, three hundred, six hundred, or even a thousand years. He could not accept a silent and anonymous death in this desolate void.
Numerous thoughts raced through Song Chi's mind. In the end, he summoned the Celestial Dawn airship back. If the Marketplace of All Realms was destined to be destroyed, he would not allow the Celestial Dawn to sink with it.
Without the Marketplace of All Realms, his only reliance would be the Celestial Dawn.
As long as the Celestial Dawn remained, equipped with the orange "Dark Matter Energy Shield Generator" and the purple "Brainwave Remote Control System," he had the confidence to carve out his own path in the universe, at least ensuring he would not be forgotten.
With this resolve, Song Chi's thoughts shifted, and the Celestial Dawn, receiving the brainwave signal, turned and charged back into the marketplace.
As expected, the moment the Celestial Dawn returned, all the Void Demons outside redirected their attacks to the Marketplace of All Realms.
Buzz! Buzz! Buzz!
The protective light barrier of the Psionic Array trembled violently, and the shield value plummeted at an indescribable rate.
Note: Next week, we're aiming for the Three Rivers promotion. I hope everyone continues to follow and read. Thank you!
