Chapter 6: Recommendation
Chapter 6: Recommendation (Vote)
What kind of person is Harry Potter?
Professor Mcgonagall is one of the most qualified to answer this question. To be fair, apart from a certain unnamed Potions Professor, the other faculty members generally have a good impression of Harry.
Honest, polite, and with a strong sense of justice; on the other hand, he is also "slightly" impulsive and reckless—this isn't entirely a bad thing, as it fits the Gryffindor profile well.
However, the above are all character evaluations. If we talk about his academic performance...
Let's just say, it's better not to delve too deeply! Delving too deeply reveals a lot of potential!
It's the same old routine some teachers use during parent-teacher conferences.
Finally, Professor Mcgonagall introduced Harry like this: "Harry is a very friendly young wizard, and he's also very good at Quidditch."
This left Felix a bit perplexed. I asked about his strong subjects, and you tell me he's friendly? Is that all you can say?
But being good at Quidditch... looks like he has a lot of athletic talent!
To be honest, Felix was a bit envious. Not because of the fame on the Quidditch pitch, but because, in his view, people with good athletic talent are at least half-way to being Dueling Prospects.
What does dueling rely on? Spell power, casting technique, mental state, experience, and reaction speed.
He could say he had the first four qualities, but as for the last one, his reaction speed was just average, barely keeping up. But don't think Felix was weak; with his Golden Thumb, his spell power far exceeded what it should be for his level.
By the end of his fourth year, he could stand toe-to-toe with three adult wizards, breaking through their defenses with sheer force.
Not to mention his current state.
Taking the unnamed Potions Professor as an example, compared to him, Felix's magical theory might be slightly weaker due to his age, but his spell power was far superior.
And all of this was the result of his tireless efforts!
Practicing his main spell thousands of times, can you believe it? Take his strongest offensive spell, the "Petrifying Spell", for example. This was one of the first spells he learned, and now he rates it at Level 6, struggling to break through to Level 7.
No other reason, his magical foundation just couldn't support further advancement.
But what does Level 6 magic mean? Just two years ago, he brought down seven American Aurors with two Level 6 spells and a bit of trickery!
Unmatched speed and devastating spell power—that was Felix's self-assessment.
It was precisely because Felix had managed to learn two Level 6 spells by the end of his fourth year, jumping two levels, that he had the confidence to face the outside world.
Felix felt a bit wistful. If he had outstanding reaction speed, perhaps he wouldn't have to rely on potions to use his ultimate moves.
But at least the past three years after graduation weren't wasted. A new spell was taking shape.
Here, Felix strongly thanked those black wizards who made an indelible contribution to his magical career!
Thank you for your willingness to be test subjects.
...
Felix sat on the other side, flipping through the materials provided by Professor Mcgonagall, occasionally copying down some information and recording some statistical data—this was a skill he had honed during his two years in the Muggle world.
During this time, he had worked for three companies, and each time he left, the companies were reluctant to let him go, not because he had used the Confundus Charm!
In the afternoon, Felix and Professor Mcgonagall enjoyed afternoon tea together, during which Felix raised a question.
"Teaching Assistant?" Mcgonagall was a bit puzzled.
"An assistant, someone who helps the Teaching Assistant with miscellaneous tasks, like organizing research materials, grading papers, supervising exams, and auditing classes", Felix clarified. "Of course, there are some small perks."
Professor Mcgonagall began to understand. She subtly rolled her eyes. What assistant? Looks like you're just trying to be lazy!
Sure enough, as Professor Snape said, "That Felix is a typical Slytherin!" Once he got the job, he started finding ways to avoid his main duties!
“I don’t think it’s right for a professor to pass their work off to students,” Professor Mcgonagall said sternly, pursing her lips.
“Professor Mcgonagall, you’ve misunderstood me. I actually want to cultivate exceptional students.”
Professor Mcgonagall gave him a look that clearly said, "Don’t try to fool me."
“It’s true. According to my plan, I don’t intend to establish my own Professor's Club in the first year. After all, I need time to get familiar with teaching and the environment.”
A Professor's Club is where certain professors invite students from their classes who have shown exceptional performance to gather and study magic together.
It’s commonly known as Private Tutoring.
For example, Professor Mcgonagall’s Transfiguration Club holds activities irregularly to teach magic and techniques that aren’t covered in class or exams.
Professor Mcgonagall nodded. She hadn’t mentioned this to Felix because he was new and she hadn’t had the chance.
“So, you mean to identify talent early on and prepare for next year’s club?” Mcgonagall asked.
“Exactly!”
Professor Mcgonagall thought about it and decided it could work. It would benefit the students as well; just a bit of extra guidance would be enough to attract top students. As the only outstanding graduate in recent decades, Felix was certainly qualified.
As for the underachievers? Who cared what they thought? This had nothing to do with them!
There were no underachievers in the Professor's Club.
“What are your criteria?” Professor Mcgonagall asked. Such opportunities were rare, and she intended to use her influence to recommend her own students first.
Felix thought for a moment and listed a few requirements. “Well… first, they should be proactive learners—those who are willing to take the initiative and have a strong thirst for knowledge. Second, they should have a good memory. Third, they shouldn’t be in too high a year. Since this is my first assistant, I want to spend some time cultivating them.”
“By the way, their Ancient Runes grades aren’t important. I have special teaching techniques,” he added.
Felix thought some more and felt these were the main requirements.
In reality, he just wanted a reliable helper to handle various tasks. But even helpers have different levels. A low-level, underachiever-type helper would be of little use, as a single spell from him would be more effective.
A top student, on the other hand, would be much more useful. With a bit of cultivation, they could become a Teaching Assistant, a magic research assistant, or even a partner. It was a win-win situation.
Professor Mcgonagall, no longer interested in her dessert, quickly ran through the list of young wizards in Gryffindor in her mind. Wood wouldn’t work, as he had Quidditch commitments; Percy was good, but he was already in fifth year and had to prepare for his Owls…
The Weasley Twins? She feared they’d be returned in no time! But they did have potential…
Then, a name popped into her head.
“You mean Hermione Granger?” Felix was somewhat surprised. Wasn’t she one of the trio of adventurers?
She was in the same year as Harry Potter, so she must be in her second year this year?
“That’s right. She nearly perfectly fits your criteria—she loves knowledge, has an excellent memory, and is still young,” Professor Mcgonagall said, speaking highly of her. She had a good impression of Miss Granger, as there were whispers that one of her nicknames was “Little Mcgonagall.”
Seeing Felix’s hesitation, Professor Mcgonagall also recommended the Weasley Twins but warned him about their penchant for mischief.
“I’ll talk to them when school starts,” Felix finally decided.
