Chapter 6: Infusing Qi into the Body
Chapter 6: Infusing Qi into the Body
Chu Ning had previously familiarized himself with the contents of the Evergreen Eternal Spring Art, but he took out the small booklet again, meticulously reviewing the crucial points of the cultivation technique multiple times.
Only after ensuring that he had memorized all the meditation and breathing techniques did Chu Ning put down the booklet.
With his eyes slightly closed, he began to sense the presence of spiritual energy, as instructed in the cultivation technique.
The first step in transitioning from an ordinary person to a cultivator is to draw qi into the body, officially entering the Qi Refining stage.
And to achieve this, one must first sense the spiritual energy and then further distinguish the wood-attribute spiritual energy from it.
Whether it is sensing spiritual energy or drawing it into the body, it is related to one's innate talent, or in other words, the quality of one's spirit root. The higher the quality of the spirit root, the easier it is to accomplish this step.
Chu Ning possessed a four-attribute pseudo-spirit root. In normal circumstances, it wouldn't be easy for him to achieve this step, and it would usually take several days just for this.
If one's talent were even poorer, it could even take half a month or a full month.
However, after closing his eyes and calming his mind, entering a profound and mysterious state, Chu Ning only needed a short while before he felt the faint spiritual energy surrounding his body.
Among these spiritual energies, a strand of wood-attribute spiritual energy, appearing as a verdant green in his perception, was particularly noticeable.
"So this is sensing spiritual energy?"
Chu Ning was astonished, nearly breaking out of his cultivation state.
Fortunately, he quickly calmed his mind and maintained his focus.
Originally, Chu Ning had only intended to sense the spiritual energy, but now that he had perceived the distinct wood-attribute spiritual energy, he instinctively proceeded to the next step.
Drawing qi into the body!
Following the breathing technique of the Evergreen Eternal Spring Art, Chu Ning regulated his inhalation and exhalation.
The stray spiritual energy surrounding Chu Ning soon became orderly, and a wisp of wood-attribute spiritual energy separated from the rest, entering his body along with his breathing.
Incredibly, Chu Ning had effortlessly accomplished drawing qi into his body.
At this moment, Chu Ning didn't dwell on these thoughts, as his mind was wholly tranquil and focused on his cultivation. He guided this wisp of spiritual energy along his meridians toward his dantian.
The spiritual energy cleansed and strengthened his meridians, leaving only a very faint trace of it to enter his dantian.
In his originally empty dantian, a thin wisp of extremely dilute spiritual energy began to swirl at the very bottom.
Subsequently, more strands of spiritual energy continued to flow in.
When these strands of spiritual energy transformed into a thread of refined qi and settled in his dantian, Chu Ning's body trembled slightly, and he withdrew from his cultivation state.
Chu Ning understood that his mental strength was insufficient to continue.
However, he didn't feel the slightest bit of regret.
The changes in his dantian had been clearly perceptible, allowing him to accurately gauge his cultivation state.
Infusing qi into the body! Qi Refining first layer!
In just his first attempt at cultivation, he had successfully infused qi into his body, officially reaching the first layer of the Qi Refining stage!
Glancing once more at the hourglass in the room, he estimated that he had spent about an hour.
"Perhaps even a Heaven-grade spirit root wouldn't be much different! Is this the talent of a Yin Wood Spirit Body?"
Chu Ning marveled inwardly, checking his cultivation progress in his mind once more.
【Evergreen Eternal Spring Art (Low-grade Yellow-tier), First Layer (1/300)】
With just this one cultivation session, his proficiency had already increased by one point.
Of course, Chu Ning didn't believe that this meant the Evergreen Eternal Spring Art was easier than the Nine Yin Body Tempering Technique; there could only be one reason for this.
The Yin Wood Spirit Body!
"What a formidable talent!" Chu Ning secretly exclaimed in his heart.
Recalling the other function of the Yin Wood Spirit Body—"the ability to conceal one's cultivation level and reveal it at will"—Chu Ning soon discovered that he could freely control the aura of his wood-attribute qi.
It was perfect for his current disguise as a menial disciple. If he had completed the qi infusion process in a single day, it would have raised too many eyebrows and attracted unwanted attention.
"For now, I'll observe his cultivation progress and reveal my own advancement to the first layer of Qi Refining when the time is right." Chu Ning made up his mind, put away the booklet, and went to sleep peacefully.
Perhaps due to the effects of the cultivation technique, despite sleeping relatively late the previous night, Chu Ning woke up feeling refreshed and energized the next morning.
After some thought, he decided not to cultivate the Evergreen Eternal Spring Art again and instead practiced the Nine Yin Body Tempering Technique.
After all, he wasn't sure if Cao Dongxin would assign him another task, and he didn't want to be interrupted during his cultivation of the Evergreen Eternal Spring Art. The Nine Yin Body Tempering Technique was shorter and could be easily paused if needed.
Even though he had already perfected the Nine Yin Body Tempering Technique, Chu Ning found that practicing it still made his body feel more invigorated and relaxed.
"Looks like I can continue cultivating this technique," Chu Ning thought to himself.
Just then, he faintly heard the sound of a door opening. Knowing it was Cao Dongxin leaving his room, Chu Ning quickly opened his door and stepped out as well.
"Good morning, Senior Brother," Chu Ning greeted politely, maintaining a respectful attitude towards Cao Dongxin despite his quirky personality. After all, he would be following the senior disciple for the next three months.
Cao Dongxin glanced at Chu Ning and let out a cold hmph.
"From now on, wake up half a shichen earlier to prepare breakfast," he instructed.
"Yes, Senior Brother," Chu Ning replied without hesitation, not wanting to provoke any unnecessary arguments.
"I'll go make breakfast now," he added.
However, Cao Dongxin stopped him, saying, "No need. We're heading to the fields now."
Skipping breakfast? Chu Ning's thoughts raced, realizing that Cao Dongxin had probably already eaten something in his room.
Thankfully, he had come prepared and brought some food with him.
Chu Ning took out two pancakes that he had bought in Qingxi City a couple of days ago. These dry pancakes were durable and wouldn't spoil easily, so he had bought twenty of them.
Cao Dongxin's expression changed slightly when he saw Chu Ning take out the pancakes.
Pretending not to notice, Chu Ning offered, "Would you like one, Senior Brother?"
Cao Dongxin didn't reply and simply walked out of the courtyard. Chu Ning followed, munching on his pancake.
After walking for a li, Cao Dongxin stopped in front of a field.
Chu Ning's eyes widened as he took in the sight before him. The field was filled with a type of light pink rice, and he couldn't help but wonder, "Could this be spirit rice?"
He considered asking Cao Dongxin about it but decided against it, knowing that the senior disciple probably wouldn't give him a straight answer anyway.
Besides, if there was something he needed to do, Cao Dongxin would tell him.
What puzzled Chu Ning was that Cao Dongxin just sat at the edge of the field, doing and saying nothing.
And he sat there for half a shichen.
Was he doing this on purpose to prevent him from cultivating?
Chu Ning couldn't help but speculate.
Just then, he heard voices approaching. Turning his head, he saw the talkative Senior Brother Shang Zhaoxiang, along with one of the new disciples from yesterday, Qiu Shuny.
They had also spotted Chu Ning and Cao Dongxin.
Shang Zhaoxiang spoke up first, a teasing tone in his voice. "Well, well, Old Cao. You're up early today, too."
