Chapter 6: Bandit Level 5
Chapter 6: Bandit Level 5
March 31st, 2027
For Lu HaiKong, the upgrade to Basic Axe Technique held little surprise.
This guy still couldn't comprehend the technique's usefulness, and his mind was solely focused on wood-splitting, or rather, dinner, as a foodie's obsession with eating was unwavering.
However, upon learning that upgrading Basic Axe Technique seemed crucial for his culinary endeavors, Lu HaiKong paid attention to its progress while splitting wood.
Another afternoon flew by, and as the mealtime approached, the foodie tossed his axe aside and summoned the silly guard to turn in the task. This time, he received a generous reward of 300 copper coins and 300 experience points. Combined with the 50 points from the morning and the previous 50 for familiarizing himself with the bandit camp, he only needed 100 more points to level up.
Of course, leveling up seemed insignificant compared to the prospect of a hearty meal. With his newfound wealth, Lu HaiKong dashed to the mess hall and indulged in a feast.
It had been a long day, and finally, Lu HaiKong's pocket money allowed him to eat to his heart's content. He set aside 100 copper coins for breakfast the next day and spent the remaining 200 on a meal fit for two or three people. He didn't think twice about it; he just wanted to indulge. Unfortunately, he was in for another disappointment.
The usually good-natured Wang Fat scowled as he supervised Lu HaiKong's meal, insisting that he finish everything he ordered and not waste a single grain of food. In the end, the poor guy could barely walk out of the mess hall, leaning against the wall.
However, for Lu HaiKong, this minor setback was nothing. The next morning, he eagerly rushed to the mess hall and resumed his foodie routine.
For three days, Lu HaiKong's life in the bandit camp revolved around wood-splitting and eating. After his previous experience of overeating, he exercised restraint in his spending and focused on improving his Basic Axe Technique. As a result, not only did he split more wood, but the quality improved. In just three days, he saved over 2,000 copper coins, even after indulging in hearty meals.
As the saying goes, "A full stomach leads to..." Well, in a bandit camp, Lu HaiKong couldn't exactly act on those desires. With money in his pocket and no worries about food, his enthusiasm for wood-splitting waned.
With his belly full, he spent his days roaming the camp. He even considered venturing outside, but the bandit guarding the gate refused to let him leave.
To venture outside the camp, Lu HaiKong learned from Wang Fat that he either needed to become a bandit chief or have an assigned task that required leaving the camp. The former had only five days of vacation per month, and the latter required an immediate return upon task completion.
Advancing to a bandit subleader required reaching level 5, which wasn't difficult. Lu HaiKong was currently at level 3, and with his wood-splitting skills, he could reach level 5 in just two or three days. As for tasks, he checked the task board, but there didn't seem to be any that required leaving the camp.
With no hope of going out and growing tired of wood-splitting, Lu HaiKong suddenly remembered the archery 'game' at the bandit training ground that he hadn't tried yet. It was only 100 copper coins per attempt, and he had the money!
Carrying his 2,000 copper coins, Lu HaiKong went to the training ground to try his hand at archery. After renting a target from the old man, Wang DaFu, Lu HaiKong discovered after a few attempts that he couldn't shoot an arrow straight. Embarrassed, he couldn't bear to look at the cold-faced old man.
As a foodie, Lu HaiKong valued his pride, and this was a moment of humiliation. However, his worries were unfounded. When renting the target, he had flaunted his wealth by showing off all his copper coins, causing the old man's eyes to light up and his mouth to water. The once cold-faced man became extremely friendly and began to flatter Lu HaiKong while trying to sell him various manuals and weapons.

Upon hearing the mention of manuals, the Foodie, true to his nature, was intrigued. However, as soon as the old man brought out the goods, the Foodie's carefully crafted image of a wealthy individual was instantly shattered.
Basic Archery: 1,000 copper coins, Basic Swordplay: 1,500 copper coins, Basic Gunplay: 2,000 copper coins, and Basic Axemanship: 1,500 copper coins.
These basic manuals were somewhat affordable, and Li HaiKong could manage the price of a few thousand coins. However, the last manual, "Fundamental Inner Strength," required a staggering 50,000 copper coins. Additionally, the old man had various martial skill manuals, but Li HaiKong only glanced at them. Seeing the long string of zeros, he lost interest in reading further.
In the end, Li HaiKong only spent 1,000 copper coins to purchase the "Basic Archery" manual from the old man. The old man didn't seem too disappointed, perhaps believing that Li HaiKong had the potential to earn more. He remained enthusiastic, anticipating future purchases.
After buying "Basic Archery," Li HaiKong stopped browsing the unaffordable manuals and dedicated himself to practicing archery. Having learned his lesson from past failures, he vowed never to miss again, and he meant it!
Li HaiKong indeed had a natural talent for martial arts. After studying the "Basic Archery" manual, his archery skills visibly improved. Initially, he couldn't hit the target nine out of ten times, but soon he was consistently hitting the target. However, he was still far from the bullseye and could only manage this within a ten-meter distance.
Before long, Li HaiKong's "Basic Archery" skill reached Level 1, significantly enhancing his archery. Now, out of ten arrows, at least three or four would hit the bullseye. This rapid improvement left the old man beside him stunned, and Li HaiKong couldn't help but feel triumphant at the old man's bewildered expression.
Li HaiKong spent two more days in the Bandit Camp, splitting wood, eating, and practicing archery. It was a simple yet satisfying life, except for one thing—he had tried all of Wang Fat's dishes several times, and they were starting to become a bit bland.
On this particular day, as Li HaiKong was splitting wood, the bandits' levels suddenly increased to Level 5.
The Bandit profession seemed no better than being a refugee. Upon reaching Level 5, there was no improvement in attributes. It wasn't until Level 5 that the Foodie gained two free attribute points.
Just as Li HaiKong's bandit level reached Level 5, a bandit underling rushed over with a stiff and formal demeanor, conveying that Wang DaMaZi had a task for him and requested his presence.
Wang DaMaZi? What could he possibly want? Li HaiKong wasn't in a hurry to meet him. Instead, he opened his attribute panel to admire his current stats.
Name: Li HaiKong
Profession: Bandit Lv: 05
Attributes:
Strength: 2
Agility: 2
Intelligence: 2
Constitution: 2
Talent: Unlocked
Skills:
Basic Ax Technique Lv: 4 (199/200)
Basic Archery Lv: 3 (1/150)
Status: Healthy
Free Attribute Points: 2
Li HaiKong noticed that his Basic Ax Technique was close to reaching Level 5, so he decided to focus on improving it. According to his knowledge of the game, Level 5 was a critical point, and he was certain that his ax technique would significantly improve once it reached that level. So, with ax in hand, he split a few more logs, successfully raising his Basic Ax Technique to Level 5.
Indeed, as soon as the Basic Ax Technique reached Level 5, Li HaiKong felt a distinct tremor throughout his body, followed by a system notification.
The Level 5 Basic Ax Technique enhanced the effectiveness of ax-type weapons and skills by 10%. Li HaiKong didn't fully comprehend its potential yet, but he was pleased with the other two effects.
First, it increased his strength attribute by a small amount. Second, it unlocked a new ax skill called 'Powerful Chop.'
Li HaiKong was eager to try out this new skill, but just then, another bandit hurriedly approached him, urging him to meet with Wang DaMaZi. With no choice, Li HaiKong headed off to see Wang DaMaZi, a man he hadn't encountered since entering the camp.
As Li HaiKong entered the Assembly Hall, Wang DaMaZi declared, "Li HaiKong, you've been in the camp for some time now. It's time for you to go out and start robbing people!"
