Chapter 599: I Really Wish You Weren't So Good
Chapter 599: I Really Wish You Weren't So Good
Harry hesitated and glanced at Ron, who was buried under the covers like a corpse. Knowing that persuasion would be futile, he left him alone.
Due to the cold war between the three, the evening atmosphere in the dormitory was no longer as lively as before. When Neville returned, he almost thought he had entered the wrong room. He hesitated at the door for a long time before daring to come in.
Ivan had been busy all day and, after washing up, he lay down on his bed early. However, he tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep.
Harry becoming the Champion was a clear sign that Voldemort was still working on his resurrection plan, and Ivan had no leads, let alone any suspects to consider.
This feeling of helplessness was frustrating. Ivan turned his head and looked at the mouse cage on the table, where a few white mice were listlessly lying inside.
Ivan believed that mastering Legilimency was the only way to unravel this mystery!
Unfortunately, the minds of mice were too simple. Ever since his Legilimency had reached level three, his progress had practically stalled.
He needed a new test subject.
At this thought, Ivan glanced at Harry's bedroom but quickly dismissed the idea of asking for his help.
The target was too big. Dumbledore, Mad-Eye Moody, and Voldemort's potential followers were all keeping a close eye on Harry. If he accidentally let something slip, Ivan's ability to use Legilimency would be exposed.
This mind-reading magic was particularly vulnerable to deliberate defenses. With his casting skills still low, if the other person practiced Occlumency, he might end up with completely wrong information.
In comparison, Hermione would be a better choice.
Young witches were smart and knew how to keep secrets. The only question was whether she would be willing to help...
Ivan kept thinking about it, and after a long while, he finally drifted off to sleep.
On Sunday morning, Ivan yawned and woke up. He fed the now-useless mice to Maca as breakfast.
A little while later, Harry also woke up. The first thing he did after getting out of bed was to look at Ron's bedroom. Noticing that it was empty, he turned to Ivan with a curious expression and asked, "Where's Ron?"
"I don't know. He probably went out to avoid us. What, are you planning to explain things to him?" Ivan replied casually, putting away the empty mouse cage.
Harry hesitated and nodded. He had spent half the night thinking and had come up with a solid reason. He was determined to try and convince Ron again, believing that this time he would succeed.
"Go ahead if you want to, but don't get your hopes up!" Ivan shrugged. He thought that no matter how Harry explained, Ron wouldn't listen.
Only when the Triwizard Tournament began and Ron realized the danger of the competition would the situation make sense to him.
In the original timeline, Harry had only managed to win the tournament with constant help. Whether Ron could get past the dragon was a whole different story. He didn't have Harry's exceptional flying skills.
As they talked, the two of them made their way to the Great Hall.
Along the way, people frequently greeted them, especially the Gryffindor young wizards, who treated them like heroes.
"Good luck, Hals and Potter! Show Beauxbatons and Durmstrang that Hogwarts is the best school!" a senior Gryffindor shouted at them.
"Of course, don’t worry! You’ll see me win the championship!" Ivan replied with a smile.
Harry, on the other hand, seemed somewhat restrained. Whenever someone cheered for him, he would feel flustered and unsure of how to respond.
He was very concerned that his abilities might not be up to the expectations of these people.
When they arrived at the Great Hall, Harry realized the situation was even worse than he had imagined. While the Gryffindor students welcomed them enthusiastically, the young wizards from the other three houses had mixed reactions.
Ivan was doing better. Although his method of entering the competition was somewhat questionable, he had used his wisdom to break the Age Line and explained the specific method openly. Even if some were dissatisfied, they wouldn’t say anything outright.
Harry was different. As soon as he stepped through the threshold, he heard people talking about him.
As they passed the Slytherin table, he even heard a student speculate that Harry had forced Ivan to help him cheat to become a Champion.
These comments made Harry feel very uncomfortable.
"Be more confident, Harry! Since the Triwizard Cup has chosen you, you are the Hogwarts Champion! Ignore the opposition. If you perform outstandingly in the competition, they will recognize your worth!" Ivan consoled him.
"I hope so," Harry said gloomily.
At the same time, Hermione, sitting at the Gryffindor long table, saw the two of them enter and quickly waved them over, making some space for them.
"Ivan, Harry, how was last night? Did you sleep well?" Hermione asked tactfully, as she had noticed Ron’s mood was not good that morning.
"Absolutely terrible. Ron was acting strangely, insisting that I had secretly entered the competition without telling him!" Harry said, still angry about it. He looked around but couldn’t find Ron anywhere.
"He just left through the side entrance, probably trying to avoid you," Hermione said, knowing what Harry was wondering.
Harry was confused. Why did Ron keep avoiding him wherever he went?
"Don’t you get it, Harry? Ron doesn’t want to hear your explanations. It’s just his jealousy talking, making him unwilling to see us," Ivan said calmly, stuffing a piece of buttered toast into his mouth, his words slightly muffled.
"Jealousy? Why? Just because we became Champions?" Harry still didn’t understand.
"It’s not just that, Harry! Ron has always been jealous of you, not just because of this!" Hermione sighed and began to explain.
"Think about it. If you had two very famous friends, and everyone liked them, while you were always left out and ignored, even by your parents, how would you feel?"
"I would be very happy, extremely happy! That way, I wouldn’t have people staring at my forehead wherever I go!" Harry said passionately. "If my childhood had been spent at The Burrow with my parents, I would have been overjoyed!"
"And you, Hermione, you have two famous friends too, yet you’re different from Ron!" Harry turned to Hermione and added.
"No, you’re wrong. Sometimes I do get jealous of you… I wish you weren’t so talented," Hermione glanced at Ivan and said.
Harry’s eyes widened in surprise, and even Ivan looked a bit disbelieving.
"But it’s usually just a little bit, and it passes quickly!" Hermione winked and laughed.
