Chapter 598: I Have My Temper Too (2)
Chapter 598: I Have My Temper Too (2)
Hu Zhifeng called Zong Shimen's friends, and even the Zong family later on, but he still had no news of her.
Mrs. Hu was anxious and worried that Zong Shimen had been kidnapped. She asked Hu Zhifeng to call the police.
Hu Zhifeng remained calm and said, "Mom, I don't think it's a kidnapping. If it were, the kidnappers would have called by now."
Mrs. Hu, in a fluster, wiped her tears. "If she wasn't kidnapped, then why hasn't she come back? Shimen has never spent a night away from home since she married into our family. Even if something came up and she couldn't come back, she would call. Now she's nowhere to be found, and there's no call either. Where could she have gone?"
Hu Zhifeng was also getting agitated. "I'm going upstairs to change my clothes first," he said.
It was only when he came out of the shower and started getting dressed that he noticed the divorce agreement on the dressing table. At that moment, he was certain that Zong Shimen hadn't been kidnapped; she was just hiding.
Mrs. Hu picked up the divorce agreement and glanced through it. She found that Zong Shimen's request was to take Xiaobao with her, and she didn't want any alimony or compensation.
Mrs. Hu tore the agreement to pieces and asked, "What did you do?"
Hu Zhifeng indicated that he hadn't done anything.
Mrs. Hu couldn't believe him. "If you don't tell me the truth, get out of this house now," she said. "And tomorrow, you're out of the family business as well."
She was old-fashioned and occasionally clashed with her daughter-in-law, but she had a clear understanding of her heart. Her daughter-in-law was filial to her and cherished their family. So, she would rather drive her son away than let her daughter-in-law leave.
Master Hu's face turned cold. "Explain what's going on," he demanded. "If you don't make things clear, you can hand in your resignation tomorrow."
He could still work for another twenty years, and then he could pass the baton to his grandson. If his son didn't fall in line, he could go his own way.
Under his parents' pressure, Hu Zhifeng finally told the truth. "The doctor said that Amy's body is in poor condition. If she loses this baby, she won't be able to be a mother again."
Before Master Hu could say anything, Mrs. Hu interrupted. "You already have three sons. Do you still want another son so badly? Let me tell you, take that witch to get an abortion immediately, or I'll find someone to deal with her."
Hu Zhifeng objected. "Mom, Amy has been with me for so many years. This is her last chance to be a mother. I can't be that heartless."
After all, he had developed feelings for her, or else he wouldn't have wanted to keep the child.
Mrs. Hu slapped him across the face. "Are you saying I'm heartless? Your wife is generous and forgiving, but even the most generous woman wouldn't tolerate another woman's child sharing the family fortune with her own. If you keep this child, your wife will drift away from you, and your other children won't be close to you either."
"Also, what woman out there isn't with you for your money? If they're after your money, they should be honest about it. Taking the money and then wanting to have a child to share the family fortune—I won't stand for it."
Seeing his wife's flushed face, Master Hu was concerned that she might work herself into a state. He called for the maid to take Mrs. Hu back to her room. When she refused to go, he said, "Go and lie down in your room. I'll talk to Zhifeng."
Only then did Mrs. Hu return to her room.
Master Hu didn't speak in the living room but called his son to the study. "Do you really want to keep this child?" he asked.
Hu Zhifeng hesitated for a moment, then nodded. "Yes, Dad. I plan to send her to Australia. She and the child will stay there and never return to Hong Kong."
This arrangement could work, but every decision had its price. "Transfer 5% of your shares in the Hu Group to Keke's name," Master Hu said. "Also, transfer the ownership of the two luxury apartments in De Ligen Dege to your wife."
Keke was Zong Shimen's eldest son and Master Hu's favorite grandchild.
"Dad..."
Master Hu waved his hand, signaling for him to be quiet. "If you insist on letting that woman give birth to the child, you must compensate your wife adequately, or she won't be able to get over it. In addition to you, I'll also transfer 2% of the shares to Keke's name. Moreover, I'll give your wife a shop in Causeway Bay."
Master Hu was willing to part with the luxurious house and the shop, but there was no way he would give shares to his daughter-in-law. However, since she doted on her son, and Keke was the future heir of the family, he believed that giving her 7% of the shares would satisfy her.
Seeing that his father had already offered so much, Hu Zhifeng didn't object further.
Master Hu sighed and said, "Zhifeng, it's understandable for a man to have casual flings outside of marriage, but remember that a harmonious family brings good fortune. If your wife isn't united with you, your career won't prosper either."
As Hu Zhifeng tried to speak again, Master Hu waved his hand, interrupting him. "Go back and think carefully about it. Don't act rashly and end up regretting it later."
Hu Zhifeng returned to his room and had just sat down when he received a call from Nie Zhan.
"Zhan, what's the matter so late at night?"
Nie Zhan said, "Brother Feng, Jiaxin just called me and said that my sister-in-law went to Bali with her. I asked her why she didn't tell me earlier, and Jiaxin said that she saw my sister-in-law at the airport this morning, and my sister-in-law told her not to tell me."
Hu Zhifeng felt a surge of anger. "She's in Bali now?"
Nie Zhan could sense the anger in his tone. "Brother Feng, we've all witnessed the contributions your wife has made to you and this family over the years. Her sudden trip to Bali and asking Jiaxin not to inform me... Brother Feng, what exactly did you do to upset her?"
Hu Zhifeng felt embarrassed and didn't know what to say.
Nie Zhan understood immediately. It was still because of that mistress. He usually wouldn't interfere in other people's relationships, and the last time he spoke up was because of their long-standing friendship. With a smile, he said, "Just apologize to her sincerely when she returns, and this matter will blow over."
Hu Zhifeng said, "If Jiaxin calls you again, tell her that I'll transfer 5% of the shares to Keke, and my father will transfer 2% to him as well. Additionally, I'll give her the two luxury apartments in De Ligen Dege that I bought last month, along with a shop in Causeway Bay."
Nie Zhan was shocked. The more he gave, the more serious the mistake seemed. "Brother Feng, what exactly did you do to upset her?"
It must have been something major for him to transfer half of his shares to someone else.
Hu Zhifeng thought for a moment and then decided to tell him. There was no point in keeping it a secret; Nie Zhan would find out anyway once Lu Jiaxin returned from Bali.
After hearing the reason, Nie Zhan didn't know what to say. His brother-in-law was willing to transfer his shares to his nephew rather than let go of the child he had with his mistress. He knew that his sister-in-law wouldn't be happy about this; she would only feel heartbroken. Seeing that Hu Zhifeng was still agitated, he didn't try to persuade him further, as he knew it would be futile. He could only hope that his brother-in-law wouldn't come to regret his decision.
The next day, Nie Zhan told Lu Jiaxin about the matter. "Find a suitable opportunity to inform your sister-in-law about this. And don't rush back; stay there and enjoy yourself for a while longer."
Lu Jiaxin smiled and agreed.
Sensing that her attitude was somewhat off, Nie Zhan asked directly, "Why aren't you angry?"
Lu Jiaxin found his question amusing. "It's fine as long as there's no love involved. As long as the status and inheritance rights of the children are ensured, Shimen doesn't care if he has many mistresses or children with them."
Nie Zhan fell silent for a moment before saying, "It's good that she can think this way."
