Chapter 598: Cardinal Lanchi Welcomes the Fallen Lord to the Pluant Empire
Chapter 598: Cardinal Lanchi Welcomes the Fallen Lord to the Pluant Empire
In the depths of the Midnight Demon Workshop on the outskirts of Nica Island, Cardinal Lanchi continued his conversation with the Fallen Lord in the central chamber.
"Why don't you start by telling me who you plan to approach in the Pluant Empire?" Lanchi sighed. Although he wasn't sure whom Princess Kaliera wished to negotiate with, he was confident he could make the necessary arrangements.
"A madman, the empire's newly appointed prime minister, who keeps the upper echelons of their government guessing," Lanchi continued. "He's the only one bold enough to shoulder such a burden during wartime. I can't predict how costly it will be to earn his trust. Once he realizes our clan has a strong desire for an alliance, he'll undoubtedly drive a hard bargain. But if we don't show sufficient sincerity, he'll suspect we aren't genuinely interested in helping them against the Blood Clan."
Kaliera pinched the bridge of her nose as she spoke, then paused for a few seconds. Leaning forward, she lowered her voice and said, "You and I will have only one mission in the Pluant Empire: to find a way for me to meet Prime Minister Wilfred. And if all else fails, the two of us can combine our skills to 'treat' him, turning him into our slave."
A cunning smile played on Kaliera's lips as she realized that the combination of her and the Nameless Lord's abilities was their most powerful asset.
"..."
Lanchi was left speechless.
Setting aside the question of whether the Fallen Lord's typical demonic way of thinking was correct, the very idea was simply impossible to execute.
"Are you sure it's wise to conspire so openly?" Lanchi asked, his gaze intense as he looked at the Fallen Lord.
"What's the matter?" Kaliera asked, confused. "Are you suggesting that you have some connection with the prime minister and can't bring yourself to act against him?"
"No," Lanchi replied with a shrug. "I'm just saying there's a possibility that I am the prime minister."
"Hahaha!" Kaliera leaned back in her sofa, her laughter echoing through the room. Lanchi's serious yet playful demeanor had caught her off guard and amused her greatly. She was well aware of his true nature as a powerful demon, and she knew that Prime Minister Wilfred of the Pluant Empire had never left the empire and had been occupied with pressing matters recently.
"Where do you think I get my information about the Pluant Empire?" Kaliera opened her eyes slightly, her expression solemn. "I have a clear understanding of their movements. According to my spy within their empire, their prime minister hasn't left the capital, Hersham, in the last month."
"You have a spy in the Pluant Empire?" Lanchi raised an eyebrow, intrigued.
"Of course," the Fallen Lord, Kaliera, boasted, her arms crossed proudly. Seeing the rare look of surprise on Lanchi's face, she felt a sense of satisfaction, knowing that she had finally earned his respect. "Don't underestimate my intelligence network. I guarantee that none of my demonic spies will be discovered by the Pluant Empire. I not only keep a close watch on their prime minister, but I do so without him having the slightest inkling of my presence. Even if he were to search every inch of the empire, he wouldn't find a single clue."
She opened one eye, staring at Lanchi, her expression asking, "Am I amazing or what?"
"..."
Lanchi's expression seemed to answer, "Yes, you truly are."
This was the first time he had witnessed such audacity from the Fallen Lord, a true rogue operating outside the bounds of the law.
It seemed that unless he was willing to let the Fallen Lord read his memories, she would never truly believe him.
"Very well, then," Lanchi finally nodded. "Let's go to the Pluant Empire together. However, I'll be bringing Hyberian with us. Princess Hyberian herself will be the apparent envoy, while you'll pose as her bodyguard. Once there, I'll assist you using my human identity within the Pluant Empire."
"
The truth speaks for itself, and it doesn't make much difference whether we find out earlier or later. On the way back to the Pluant Empire, he is still Lord Logan McCassy, the nameless knight. Only when he returns to the empire and swaps identities with his double can he resume his true self, Prime Minister Lanchi Wilfred.
"Of course, then it's all up to you when we reach the Pluant Empire."
Kaliera agreed, knowing that neither of them wanted to be apart any longer.
"We can set off tomorrow. I've already planned our itinerary."
She stood up, her mood cheerful, and gestured for Lanchi to walk with her towards the exit of the central chamber.
...
Afternoon.
On this windy yet mildly warm evening, Lanchi drove back to the palace restaurant on Lis Island.
The aesthetically pleasing, cream-colored mansion stood overlooking the bay.
The verdant lawn began on the beach, stretching over a third of a kilometer to the front door, passing a sundial, brick paths, and several colorful gardens before reaching the corner of the wall, where it seemed to transform into vines that continued climbing up the walls.
The front row of floor-to-ceiling windows sparkled in the golden glow of the setting sun, left open to welcome the gentle afternoon breeze.
Lanchi, dressed in a shirt and vest, strolled alone to the wooden harbor extending from his mansion, gazing out towards the bay.
On the water, a magic-powered vehicle sped up and slowed down, carving an arc that reflected the hues of the setting sun. Cheerful shouts and laughter echoed from it without pause.
"Sister, go faster!"
"Faster?"
"I trust your driving skills, and even if I fall into the water, you'll save me, right?"
"Ugh... alright!"
"Meow meow meow! I don't want to fall into the water!"
On the small magic-powered speedboat, Sigil sat in Hyperion's lap, her joy evident as she directed Hyperion's driving. If not for Sigil's short legs not reaching the pedal, she might have taken over the acceleration herself.
Hyperion wore an expression of resignation, but she seemed unable to resist Sigil's adorable demands, so she cautiously complied with her requests to go faster.
A little black cat perched on Hyperion's shoulder, drifting left and right, meowing incessantly.
"I guess we won't be seeing much of Nicalis, the Demon King's Castle, anymore," Lanchi mused, leaning on the railing and facing the sea breeze.
"It's a pity we couldn't let you play on Lis Island for a little longer."
With that, this shadow world was also coming to an end.
Or, to be more precise, it had almost ended after they dealt with the tenth ancestor, Ulysses. Soon, they would return to the Pluant Empire, reopen the shadow world, and help Loren clear his name.
The subsequent full-scale southern campaign and the final battle with the Blood Clan in the heart of the Honing Empire would likely be the last content of this shadow world during the blood moon catastrophe.
Lanchi had no idea when the next shadow world would occur, but by then, he and Hyperion would probably not have seen Sigil for a long time.
The adult Sigil would likely be a top-tier eighth-rank powerhouse, and her personality would undoubtedly undergo changes as well.
He hoped that, despite the passage of time, the three of them could still get along as harmoniously as they did now.
However, upon further reflection, Lanchi felt that it wouldn't be an issue. He simply couldn't imagine what a quarrel between Sigil and Hyperion would look like.
Happy New Year! The shadow world is nearing its conclusion, and I should be able to finish writing it in the next few days.
