Chapter 597: Hermione's Doubt (Second Update)
Chapter 597: Hermione's Doubt (Second Update)
"Hermione, how old are you this year?"
On the way to the hospital, Belle casually asked Hermione, pulling her along.
Hermione retracted her curious gaze from the skyscrapers and modern facilities outside the car window and replied, "I just had my fifteenth birthday a little over three months ago."
"Two years younger, but it's just right."
Belle inwardly sighed and then continued, "Hermione, I noticed your accent; you don't sound like you're from around here, do you?"
"That's right, I'm from London, England", Hermione answered honestly.
Belle nodded. From the moment she heard Hermione speak, she could tell that Hermione had a distinct London accent.
"Do your parents live here with you?"
"Oh, no, they're in London. My father is a dentist and he has his own dental practice there", Hermione shook her head.
Belle's eyes softened as she looked at Hermione, "To come all the way from London to study and live here at such a young age must be quite challenging, right?"
"It's not too bad. Jerry is here, and he has always taken good care of me", Hermione replied after a moment of hesitation.
It wasn't really challenging, as she had only been there for less than an hour.
The conversation continued in this manner, and soon enough, Belle had learned everything she wanted to know from Hermione. She was fairly certain that Jerry and this young girl named Hermione were more than just classmates—they were likely in a relationship.
She hadn't expected Jerry to keep it so well hidden, never mentioning it to anyone.
According to Hermione, they had known each other for almost four years, which meant they had met when Jerry first started university.
They often studied together, frequented the library, and Jerry even helped her with her homework and gave her gifts.
At this point, Has, who was driving but had been listening to the conversation, quietly gave Jerry a thumbs-up from the front seat.
He had always thought his son was a bit slow, but it turned out he was quite the opposite.
Jerry could only smile and remain silent.
Although the situation wasn't exactly as he had envisioned, he thought the misunderstanding was not so bad. At least Has and Belle had a good impression of Hermione.
"Boom!"
Just as the car was filled with a peaceful atmosphere, a loud explosion came from a short distance ahead on the elevated highway.
Has quickly hit the brakes, following the car in front of them, and stopped the Cannonball on the elevated highway.
Through the window, they saw two strange figures engaged in an intense battle in the air above the elevated highway.
"Oh, what are those? Are they Fantastic Beasts? Does this world have Fantastic Beasts too?"
Hermione's eyes widened as she quickly pulled out her wand from her small bag.
To her, neither of the figures looked human. One was a red-clad figure with only its eyes visible, with eight arms sprouting from its back, swinging and shooting webs across the elevated highway.
The other had large wings and was flying in the air, its eyes glowing green, and it occasionally fired blue magic beams with considerable destructive power.
"Beasts? They're not beasts. The one in red is Spider-Man. He used to be very active in Queens and is quite a helpful guy."
I remember one time my bag accidentally fell into the river, and he helped me retrieve it. Oh, and I recently saw a news report saying that he seems to have joined the Avengers.
As for the one he was fighting, I haven't heard of him before, but he must be some sort of criminal!"
Belle thought Hermione and Jerry were both the type to be buried in their labs, unaware of what was happening outside, so she gave Hermione a brief explanation.
After listening to Belle's explanation, Hermione still had a puzzled look on her face. What Spider-Man? What Avengers? She had no idea what Belle was talking about.
But being smart, she didn't ask any more questions because she knew this wasn't her world. She could ask Jerry about these things when they were alone.
"It looks like we need to take a detour."
Has, seeing the situation ahead, immediately decided to turn the car around and avoid the dangerous area.
Under normal circumstances, if he encountered such a situation, he would have transformed Cannonball and gone to help.
According to current regulations, criminals like this, who exceed the norm, are usually dealt with by Avengers members. The police are only responsible for maintaining order and evacuating civilians.
However, he wasn't just the police chief; he was also an honorary Avenger.
It was inevitable that his frequent use of Cannonball to fight gangsters would attract the attention of the Avengers. Iron Man, Tony Stark, eventually found out his true identity and had a conversation with him.
After communicating with his idol Tony, he became an honorary member of the Avengers. Only Tony and a few other Avengers knew his identity.
In his everyday life, he was still the police chief and didn't need to report to the Avengers. When the Avengers needed him, he would drive Cannonball to help.
But today was different. He wasn't alone. In the car were his son, a regular human, his future daughter-in-law, and his wife, who was about to give birth. He couldn't afford to draw attention to himself.
Besides, Spider-Man was handling the situation. If Spider-Man couldn't handle it, other Avengers would surely come to help soon. It wasn't a big problem.
"Is that the Vulture?"
Sitting in the passenger seat, Jerry narrowed his eyes and immediately identified the person fighting Peter based on his memory.
The Vulture was originally the owner of a scrap metal company.
When Stark Industries established its "Damage Control Department", it led to the cancellation of his contract with the U.S. government to recover Chitauri technology, causing his company to go bankrupt.
To exact revenge on the Avengers and make money, he kept some of the Chitauri weapons and items he had recovered, modified them, and sold them to criminals at high prices.
It seemed that Peter, who liked to wander around Queens doing good deeds, had accidentally discovered this.
However, based on the current situation, Peter, who had been trained by the Avengers, was clearly more capable than in the movies. He skillfully used the new Spider-Suit Tony had made for him to prevent the Vulture from escaping.
If not for the concern that the Vulture's Chitauri weapons might harm the civilians below, Peter would have already subdued him.
"Let me give you a little help, Disarming Charm!"
Jerry raised his hand, and a blue magic beam shot out from his palm, passing through the car door and racing along the ground. It made a sharp turn and accurately hit the Vulture, who was desperately trying to escape from Peter's webbing while flying in the air.
