Chapter 596: The Insect Nest
Chapter 596: The Insect Nest
Lord Lindsey set off on his journey that very day.
Three days later, the Insect Canyon, shrouded in thick fog, came into view.
Compared to previous visits, the changes weren't drastic; only a newly constructed, smooth dirt road leading towards the Banyan Forest was added, and the number of people accompanying Lindsey had increased significantly.
Besides his trusted confidants, soldiers, and Awakened, there were also outsiders who had received special invitations to witness this allegiance ceremony.
"Lord Lindsey, you've arrived as promised."
Yeyedar, the Wailing One, emerged from the canyon.
The ruler of the Insect Tribe now exuded vitality, holding a metal spear provided by the Banyan Forest.
Behind Yeyedar, other members of the Insect Tribe appeared.
After half a year of communication, they had learned to emulate human society's operations, with some even attempting to wear linen clothing.
The insects had completely purged the corrupting poison from their bodies.
Now, the canyon was gradually being restored to its natural state by removing the seeds of corruption from the plants and soil.
Lindsey stepped forward, and Yeyedar nodded slightly.
In a booming voice, Lindsey spoke:
"Moan Mountain Ridge has fallen into this state for decades."
"For our mutual development, to restore this world, and to give everyone hope for the future! It's time to unite all forces and save what cannot be accepted!"
As Lindsey finished speaking, it was noon.
Yeyedar produced an ancient ceremony of the Insect Tribe, seemingly out of nowhere.
Lindsey entered the Misty Valley, removed his clothes, and engaged in a one-on-one battle with a mutated sheath-wielding insect.
After defeating the insect, the entire Insect Tribe swarmed towards the center of the canyon.
Yeyedar, their leader, stepped forward.
On the human side, the experienced Lane took a step forward. He respectfully held out a longsword with both hands and presented it to Lindsey in front of the crowd.
To show his seriousness and respect, Lindsey drew the Law of Ice, a gift from the Law Knight Hans Kes.
Following Lane's instructions, Lindsey swore:
"I, Lindsey, as the Lord of the Banyan Forest, pledge my wisdom, courage, and strength to protect this land and every human upon it. From this day forward, we shall stand together, facing the future's storms and challenges side by side."
After Lindsey finished speaking, Yeyedar nodded in response.
Yeyedar, now fully embracing the human language, introduced himself:
"I, the Blue Wailer, as the Insect Guardian, declare that from this day forward, Lord Lindsey is our new protector. Henceforth, we shall serve you, and our fates and futures are intertwined!"
Yeyedar placed the Law of Ice on his head.
The onlookers in the canyon applauded, though some remained stern-faced.
As previously stated.
Lindsey wanted to make this reception a symbol.
As the ceremony concluded smoothly, those who didn't support it, even those who had secretly plotted to disrupt the plan, looked at each other.
...
No one stepped forward.
These people, aside from worrying about their own future, had no intention of being the one to stick their neck out.
Even after witnessing the prosperity of the Banyan Forest and knowing that life would be more comfortable after merging with it, the answer was different for those obsessed with power.
Lindsey's gaze swept across the surroundings.
Instead of making a direct conclusion, he continued speaking in a loud voice:
"Friends, you must be aware of the policies of the Banyan Forest after this period of trade and interaction!"
"We won't force anyone to join us!"
"But just like our Insect Brothers, the Banyan Forest welcomes the joining and collaboration of all friendly forces!"
"I understand your concerns, but in a desolate world that is becoming increasingly scarce, isolation is not a sustainable way to survive. We must unite all forces, not for the sake of someone's dominance, but to gather all our strength to first save the world from its crisis!"
"If the entire world turns into a dead, silent land, what meaning would there be in becoming a ruler?"
"..."
Lindsey finished speaking, and the onlookers were also stirred.
Some understood that this was the reality, and their eyes naturally showed a hint of being moved by his words. But there were also those who thought this was just Lindsey's flowery words to establish his rule, and their gaze was filled with disdain.
Half an hour later, the ceremony ended.
Some chose to leave immediately, while others decided to stay and continue observing the subsequent developments in the Insect Canyon.
Lindsey didn't say anything more.
He entertained the guests for a moment and then called for the Wailing One, and the two of them, one human and one insect, headed towards the underground nest.
The Wailing One was already familiar with human communication methods, and he was respectful at this moment:
"Lord Lindsey, the method to clean the corrupting venom is going very smoothly, but it takes a long time. The plant cleanup should take about half a year, and the absorption of Corrupted Gold is even slower, requiring more than three years."
Lindsey nodded to show his understanding but didn't ask further questions.
Instead, he gave the Wailing One a mysterious smile:
"Wailing One, let's not rush this for now."
"First, take me to your residence, the one you showed me last time."
The Wailing One had no idea what Lindsey's purpose was.
But he had already pledged his loyalty to the man before him, and the Insect's simple mindset left him with no doubts or resistance.
He led the way, guiding Lindsey to the room they had been to before.
"..."
Lindsey's face lit up with joy.
He silently opened the attribute panel and found the information in the Real-Time Strategy module.
[Convertible Target - City Center: Insect Nest]
[Conversion Requirements: Obtain leadership of the Insect Tribe and research the Second Base technology.]
Lindsey clicked on it.
The leadership of the requirements.
The leadership of the Insect Tribe and the Second Base technology project had both been fulfilled.
Lindsey only felt the essence rapidly flowing out of his body, and the entire Misty Canyon began to tremble.
Immediately, the scene before Lindsey's eyes began to change dramatically.
Unlike the human camp in the Banyan Forest, the Insect's cave became darker and more oppressive.
At the same time, dark red flesh grew on the ground and surrounding walls, spreading through the soil and into the entire underground world.
In just the blink of an eye, the once dry and clean cave transformed into a bizarre, twisted underground realm.
