Chapter 594: The Unexpected Interrogation
Chapter 594: The Unexpected Interrogation
As Kyle emerged from the Department of Mysteries, the Ministry of Magic had just commenced its work hours. However, Diana didn't rush to have Chris escort Kyle away.
"Give me your wand," she said.
Though puzzled, Kyle reached into his pocket and handed over his wand.
Diana took it, placing her index finger on the wand's tip. Suddenly, a few red sparks flashed from the tip.
Unsure of what Diana had done, Chris's unease was evident as he slowly backed away.
Finally, Diana couldn't contain herself and slapped Kyle on the head.
"Use the Incendio Curse less often," she said, "This curse is hard to control, and once discovered, the punishment is no less severe than for an Unforgivable Curse."
Though it didn't hurt, Kyle rubbed his head and whined in protest, defending himself:
"They were Death Eaters. If I didn't use the Incendio Curse, they would have."
"That's true..." Diana acknowledged, "But as long as they haven't been fully exposed, they aren't officially Death Eaters. Yet, your use of the Incendio Curse is a fact, and it's easily traceable."
"The Memory Recall Spell," Kyle muttered, sensing that this inquiry might not be as straightforward as it seemed.
"It seems you've figured it out," Diana returned the wand to Kyle and said meaningfully, "You should have brought the box with you, be more vigilant."
...
After this, Diana returned to the Department of Mysteries, while Chris took Kyle in the elevator and headed upwards to the floor of the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures.
As they navigated the crowded corridor, Chris said, "We still have some time before the appointment. Let's grab something first."
The place was entirely different from the Department of Mysteries; the corridor was filled with boxes and clutter, making it exceptionally cramped.
"Sorry, let me through." A man rushed from behind, holding a box.
"Bob?" Chris called out, "Didn't you go to Cornwall with Amos?"
"Oh, Chris, I was looking for you." The staff member named Bob said, "We found this over there."
He pushed the box forward,
"Amos and I thought it was just an ordinary chicken from the farm, but it suddenly breathed fire."
As he spoke, a small flame burst from the box, quickly burning a hole in the cardboard.
Fortunately, it was just a small flame.
"Clear Water Spring!"
A stream of water sprayed onto the box, promptly extinguishing the flames.
Chris opened the box for a quick inspection, then checked it with his wand.
"Obvious traces of magic... Go find someone from the Law Enforcement Department. This act seriously violates the Animal Experimentation Ban Act. Have the Strike Force bring the person back."
"Okay, I'll go." Bob hurried back, but soon returned,
"What about this?" He asked, holding up the box.
"Send it to the forest. We can't leave it outside under these circumstances."
Bob ran to the end of the corridor and entered through a door.
"That's the room for experimental animals." Seeing Kyle's curious expression, Chris explained, "There's a genuine forest inside, used to house various confiscated magical creatures."
"Oh..." Kyle nodded and asked, "Do these things happen often?"
"Not infrequently." Chris sighed, "Sometimes, a single wizard's ingenuity can cause us a lot of trouble."
Seeing Chris's helpless expression, Kyle subconsciously thought of Hagrid.
It seems that he is also a member of the "Flash in the Pan" group, like the previous year's Fried Pork Chop, but Kyle probably doesn't know about this yet.
Then, Kevin followed Chris to his office... the Deputy Head's office.
After being the Head of the Department for a year, Chris seemed to have been reinstated to his previous position.
"Who is the current Head?" Kevin asked.
"I'm not sure, the position hasn't been decided yet," Chris shook his head, "But a few days ago, there was news that Senior Deputy Minister Umbridge might temporarily take over as Head."
Chris spoke calmly, showing no dissatisfaction with his "demotion."
"Okay, you can sit for a while," he said, "I need to find the materials I prepared yesterday."
Kevin casually sat on a sofa, examining the office's furnishings.
The place was filled with stacks of files everywhere, and a few wooden sticks with spikes were casually placed in the corner, with piles of parchment stacked next to them almost reaching the ceiling.
"Aha, found it!"
At this moment, Chris took out several parchments from the drawer of the desk.
This work is organized and uploaded by Liujiu Book Bar~~
Kevin leaned over to take a look and found that it was the content he had copied from the Constraint Act.
"It's always good to be prepared," Chris said.
Then they left the office and once again took the elevator to the Ministry of Magic's atrium.
Kevin was here to meet Professor McGonagall. Dumbledore had said that she would be waiting here, but after Kevin and Chris circled the atrium several times, they still didn't see any trace of Professor McGonagall.
"Perhaps she has already gone to the Law Enforcement Department," Chris glanced at the time, "We have ten minutes left, we should go too."
"Alright," Kevin said. He didn't continue searching for Professor McGonagall but went with Chris to the second floor, where the Law Enforcement Department was located.
But things took a turn here.
Originally, they were supposed to meet in Amelia Bones' office, but the staff member leading the way took Kevin to another room instead.
Seeing the group of nearly thirty people in front of him, Kevin knew that his previous feeling was correct.
If it was just about the Constraint Act, how could so many people have come... even the Head of the Auror Office, Scrimgour, was here.
"Theodore Nott is dead."
Scrimgour didn't bother with small talk. As soon as Kevin entered, he ordered the door to be closed and asked expressionlessly, "What are your thoughts on this?"
"I'm sorry, I don't know who you're talking about," Kevin said, "And I came to the Ministry of Magic to explain about the use of magic at the Cauldron Pub, but your question clearly has nothing to do with that."
"That's right, Scrimgour," Chris stepped forward, standing in front of Kevin, his face darkening as he asked, "What are you doing? We received a notification about the misuse of magic, not to assist in your investigation of Nott."
"It's the Minister's request, Chris," a witch next to Scrimgour spoke up, "Someone said they saw Nott die at the hands of this boy, and he used the Incendio curse, so we must investigate thoroughly."
"Who was it!" Chris demanded.
Amelia Bones reacted subconsciously.
At the same time, three people stood up from the back row.
"Walton McNair... Igor Karkaroff, Lucius Malfoy..."
Chris recited their names, his face growing darker.
"They are the witnesses," Amelia Bones said, "Given Mr. Karkaroff's status, we must take this seriously, Chris, I hope you can understand."
