Chapter 594: I Come from Another World (Second Update)
Chapter 594: I Come from Another World (Second Update)
"Let's take a break then!"
Jerry nodded and considerately supported Hermione, who had been exerting herself so much that her gait was slightly off, as they left the dance floor where the young wizards were still reveling.
"We should have turned the crystal shoes into sneakers during the dance. That would have been much more comfortable."
"But it wouldn't have matched the setting."
After having some snacks and drinks, Jerry and Hermione decided not to return to the dance floor to join the other young wizards. Instead, they left the Great Hall and went for a walk in the cavern.
Neither of them was particularly fond of noisy environments. While a bit of excitement was enjoyable, staying in such a setting for too long made them feel out of place.
In fact, many witches, after dancing a couple of dances, would choose to leave the dance floor and find a quieter spot to chat. After all, the primary purpose of such gatherings was social interaction, not just eating, drinking, and partying.
The Christmas ball tradition of inviting a suitable dance partner was clearly designed to give young wizards and witches a chance to bond.
There were no rules against students dating at witch schools.
So, after dancing, spending some time alone to see if there was a future together was the true intention of most young wizards.
Revisiting the large cavern filled with roses and fairy lights, they walked along the intricately decorated winding paths. Jerry and Hermione saw Fleur and Roger leaning against a statue and Harry and Ginny sitting on a bench.
Later, they also spotted the towering Hagrid and Madame Maxime, who was even taller.
"It's her, she just can't help herself!"
As they passed Hagrid and Madame Maxime, Jerry noticed a beetle perched on a reindeer statue behind them.
He immediately recognized that it wasn't an ordinary beetle but a witch transformed into one using Animagus magic.
Clearly, it was Rita Skeeter, the Daily Prophet reporter, using Animagus to eavesdrop on Hagrid and Madame Maxime's conversation.
After Rita had smeared Fleur and Krum in the newspaper, the three headmasters had jointly issued a statement banning her from entering Hogwarts to report on the Triwizard Tournament.
Yet, here she was, sneaking in using Animagus magic.
"Since you love being a beetle so much, you can live as one!"
With a flick of his hand, a thin blue magic beam, as fine as a fishing line, shot out from Jerry's hand and accurately struck the beetle that Rita had transformed into.
Jerry's hearing was exceptional. As he passed Hagrid and Madame Maxime, he could clearly hear Hagrid recounting the story of his giant mother and witch father to Madame Maxime.
He knew that based on Rita's tendencies, the next day's newspaper would likely feature a sensational story about Hagrid being a half-giant.
This would be a significant blow to Hagrid.
Many witches and young wizards at the school were unaware of Hagrid's half-giant heritage. They simply believed he was naturally tall or had suffered side effects from using magic and potions.
Giants were perceived as extremely brutal, cold-blooded, and dangerous magical creatures, and had once been loyal allies of Voldemort.
As a result, most witches had a deep-seated fear of giants and would even try to kill them on sight.
Currently, there are virtually no Giants left in the UK, as they have all been killed or driven to extremely remote areas by the Ministry of Magic.
If Hagrid's half-Giant identity were to be exposed, many parents of young wizards would likely write to Snape, demanding that he expel this dangerous individual.
At the very least, Hagrid would no longer be allowed to teach Care of Magical Creatures, where he directly interacts with and instructs young wizards.
This is why, during their conversation, Madame Maxime's face changed immediately when Hagrid asked if she was also a half-Giant. Not only did she deny it outright, but she also promptly left Hagrid.
Madame Maxime knows that, as the headmistress of Beauxbatons, she cannot afford to admit that she is a half-Giant.
Otherwise, her position as headmistress might be at risk.
"For the next ten years, you'll have to live as a beetle!"
With one last look at Rita Skeeter in her Animagus form, Jerry and Hermione continued walking deeper into the cave.
Jerry had just used magic to reinforce Rita's Animagus transformation, ensuring that she would be unable to transform back on her own until the magic's effects wore off in ten years.
This was Jerry's way of punishing the unscrupulous journalist who loved to fabricate stories and invade others' privacy.
In a green vine hammock surrounded by roses deep within the cave, Jerry and Hermione sat side by side.
The beautiful scenery and romantic atmosphere made their eyes meet, and they slowly drew closer. After a passionate French kiss, they slowly pulled apart. Jerry adjusted his emotions and spoke up:
"Hermione, I have a secret I want to tell you!"
After officially confirming their relationship, Jerry carefully considered and decided to share some of his true circumstances with Hermione.
There was nothing in this world that could threaten him now, so he could reveal some secrets without any reservations.
However, he couldn't tell her everything at once. He was afraid that with Hermione's current understanding, she wouldn't be able to grasp certain things, like the panel in his mind.
Hermione pressed her lips, which were painted with pink lipstick, and steadied her rapidly beating heart from the kiss. She asked, still a bit dazed:
"What secret? Have you invented a new spell?"
"Not exactly, it's more important than that."
Jerry shook his head and began to explain seriously:
"Actually, I wasn't born in an orphanage. I have parents and a sister, though they aren't related to me by blood. They are very important to me.
And I only came to this world when I was eleven."
As Jerry explained, Hermione's eyes grew wider, and her face showed a mix of disbelief and confusion, which gradually turned into concern.
Hermione is very intelligent, but she is only fifteen, and most of her time is spent studying magic.
While she knows more about Muggle science than a typical witch from a magical family, her knowledge is still limited to basic facts.
Concepts like parallel worlds and reincarnation, which even normal scientists can't explain, are beyond her understanding.
So, as Jerry continued his explanation, her expression slowly shifted from initial confusion to growing concern.
