Chapter 593: Wand Selection and Magical Power
Chapter 593: Wand Selection and Magical Power
As Kyle gazed at the stone archway before him, he felt a sense of familiarity.
Oh, right, the Four Giants.
Kyle remembered the first time he encountered the Four Giants in the Chamber of Secrets, where the serpentine statues had formed a similar archway.
From the design to the rippling water-like patterns within the archway, it was almost an exact replica.
Wait, was he about to meet the Four Giants again? Could the Department of Mysteries do such a thing? Just as Kyle was lost in his thoughts, he heard Diana's voice once more.
"What spell did you use to kill that Death Eater?"
"Incendio," Kyle replied instinctively.
Diana's lips twitched visibly.
She took a few deep breaths, pointed her wand at the stone gate, and said, "Now, cast Incendio again."
"Here?" Kyle hesitated.
That was Incendio, a powerful fire spell. What if he burned down this place? And this was the Ministry of Magic; was it okay to use Dark Magic so casually?
"Just do as I say," Diana urged.
"Alright," Kyle reluctantly agreed.
With no other choice, as Diana had instructed, Kyle drew his wand and waved it gently, summoning a giant dragon made of concentrated fire.
A non-verbal Incendio spell? Diana's expression changed slightly as she observed Kyle's skilled execution.
It was already rare for someone of Kyle's age to learn the Incendio spell, and he had even managed to cast it non-verbally.
For a moment, Diana wasn't sure whether she should feel proud.
It was indeed something to be proud of, but the Incendio spell... it seemed a bit inappropriate.
She shook her head and pointed her wand at the stone gate.
As if unlocking a restraint, the white light gradually detached from the gate and, under Diana's guidance, floated towards the fire dragon created by the Incendio spell.
Kyle's eyes widened in surprise.
The Incendio fire before him transformed, changing from an uncontrollable flame into a pulsating blue orb.
"This is the original form of magic," Diana explained.
It was the first time Kyle had witnessed such a phenomenon, and he felt a surge of curiosity.
At that moment, he noticed that the blue orb seemed to have something else on it, or perhaps a slightly deeper shade of color.
Although it was as thin as a strand of hair, one could discern it with careful observation.
Just as Kyle couldn't resist taking a couple of steps forward to get a better look, another stream of white light flowed towards the blue orb. It gently enveloped the magical energy, like a stream of water washing away the impurities on its surface.
"It's done," Diana said, waving her wand again, causing the surrounding white light to retreat back into the stone gate.
At the same time, the magical energy returned to its pristine state, free of any imperfections, and shone with a crystalline blue hue.
However, before Kyle could examine it closely, golden flames ignited on its surface.
"Avada Kedavra!"
With a casual wave of her wand, Diana extinguished the fire.
"What was that?" Kyle couldn't help but ask.
"Blood Debt," Diana replied calmly. "When a wizard ends the life of another wizard, their magic undergoes a certain degree of change. That's how I knew you had killed a Death Eater."
"Is there such a thing?" Kyle furrowed his brows. "Why have I never heard of it before?"
"Because they don't teach this at school, and it's not something you should be exposed to. Just like they don't teach you the Unforgivable Curses."
"Is this related to the soul?"
"No, it has nothing to do with the soul. It's just a transformation of one's own magic."
Diana put away her wand and explained, "Magic changes according to a wizard's inner thoughts. When you end the life of another wizard, malicious intentions inevitably arise within you, and a portion of your magic will transform into a state more suited to those intentions."
Kyle nodded, half understanding what she meant.
It seemed like he understood Diana's meaning. It was as if in school, he liked fried pork chops, so every time he went to the kitchen, the house elves would make fried pork chops for him.
But one day, he glanced at the bread, and although it was just a glance, among the hundred or so elves, a few of them noticed.
They would think that they liked the bread, so the next time they went to the kitchen, those few elves would, according to their guess, bring him bread.
"Many wizards pursue this," Diana whispered, "It can make magic power more frenzied and greatly enhance certain spells."
"Like the Cruciatus Curse and the Killing Curse... especially the latter. Blood debt can make the Killing Curse incredibly powerful."
"But what they don't know is that the heart can influence magic, and magic can, in turn, influence the heart. When you frequently use overly frenzied magic, you yourself will become increasingly irritable."
"This is also why most Dark Wizards have eccentric personalities and become increasingly obsessed with Dark Magic."
"If that's the case..." Kyle stroked his chin, "then as long as we restrain ourselves from using Dark Magic, the blood debt won't take effect."
It was like the house elves in the kitchen; when there were ninety-eight fried pork chops in front of him, he could choose not to take those two pieces of bread.

"That's right, it is." Diana nodded, "But even if there's no effect, it's still not a good thing."
"That's a fair point," Kyle agreed, nodding.
He couldn't help but look at the stone archway; inside, it was still the same as before, showing no signs of any changes.
"What's inside here?"
"A road equally unknown," Diana said, "But we can't enter. It repels all conscious things, including ghosts and portraits."
Kyle curiously took a few steps towards the stone archway, seeing that Diana didn't stop him. He put his mind at ease and mustered the courage to reach out towards the archway.
Then his hand came out from the other side.
"It's amazing," Kyle murmured, "Is this the work of the Department of Mysteries?"
"Just one of their tasks," Diana pointed her wand at the stone archway, and with a slight lift, a wave of colorful halos appeared inside, flowing with blue, red, orange... it was a beautiful sight.
But soon, the stone archway returned to its calm state.
"There are three such stone archways in the Department of Mysteries, representing life, magic, and time, respectively."
Diana continued, "And what you see now is the original form of magic.
"Do you still remember what Ollivander said? Wands choose wizards, but in fact, wands choose magic. It's just that everyone's magic is different."
Kyle found it hard to describe how he felt at that moment; this was his first time encountering the Department of Mysteries up close. Mysterious, indeed.
"Alright, it's about time."
Just as Kyle was lost in thought, Diana suddenly said, "We should go back."
"Alright," Kyle nodded and followed Diana out of the stone platform.
They passed through the foggy room and the room with the huge water tank again.
"Isn't there anyone guarding this place?" Kyle couldn't help but ask, "It seems we haven't met anyone at all."
"There's no need for guards," Diana said, "Normally, even if Voldemort broke in, he would only wander in the atrium, never making it here."
"What if someone really made it here?" Kyle thought for a moment, "I mean, someone who accidentally stumbled in."
"That would only prove that they were meant to be here," Diana said calmly, "And we wouldn't need to stop them."
The two passed through door after door, like a maze, and arrived at a corridor outside the Department of Mysteries.
At this moment, Chris was waiting for them by the elevator not far away.
