Chapter 591: Registering for the Tournament
Chapter 591: Registering for the Tournament
In the middle of the night, Ivan quietly got out of bed in the Gryffindor Dormitory. He glanced at Harry and the others, who were still fast asleep, and carefully opened the door. He then made his way towards the Great Hall.
As he had expected, the Great Hall was completely empty and silent at this hour.
The large doors were open, suggesting that other young wizards with similar ideas had already come and gone, attempting to throw their name slips in the middle of the night.
Ivan stepped inside, and the only source of light was the Goblet of Fire placed on the magic podium, with Blue-White Flames continuously spouting from its mouth.
"Let's start with the simplest method!" Ivan thought to himself as he walked up to the edge of the Age Line. He took out a piece of parchment with his name written on it from his pocket, crumpled it into a ball, and aimed it at the goblet's mouth.
The distance of three meters wasn't far, and Ivan was confident in his aim. He threw the paper ball with a steady hand.
The paper ball spun through the air, easily crossing the Age Line and falling into the Blue-White Flames.
Just as Ivan thought he had succeeded, the flames suddenly surged, lifting the paper ball and then deflecting it to the ground.
"Well, that didn't work!" Ivan muttered, scratching his chin.
However, he wasn't too discouraged by this initial failure. He waved his wand and cast a Summoning Charm to retrieve the Goblet of Fire, but the cup didn't budge. He then used the charm to retrieve the paper ball from the ground and began to consider other methods.
For instance, he could use a Transfiguration Spell to turn a piece of parchment into an owl and have it fly the name slip over the Age Line.
Unfortunately, Ivan quickly discovered that the transfigured owl couldn't even cross the Age Line. No matter how high it flew, it would be repelled by a magical force as soon as it entered the Age Line's range.
His other attempts also ended in failure. Even when he managed to get the paper ball into the Goblet of Fire, the Blue-White Flames would promptly spit it back out.
Clearly, in addition to the Age Line set by the old professor, the Goblet of Fire itself was protected by a Recognition Spell. It seemed that only paper slips placed into the goblet by a person would be accepted, and other creatures couldn't do it.
Ivan even suspected that it had to be the person themselves who placed their name into the goblet!
In the original timeline, Barty Crouch Jr. managed to enter Harry's name without his consent, but he knew a powerful Confundus Charm that could even alter the number of participating schools. Confusing the Goblet of Fire into thinking he was Harry shouldn't have been too difficult.
"This is deliberately making things difficult for me!" Ivan grumbled to himself.
The combination of the Age Line and the Goblet of Fire's recognition ability was indeed a formidable obstacle. Casting a spell from three meters away on such a powerful magic item was extremely challenging.
He had hoped that Dumbledore might have left some obvious loophole for him to exploit, but the old professor had been ruthless, blocking all the methods Ivan had thought of.
At this realization, Ivan's brow furrowed. Was he going to have to ask for help?
The only solution he could think of was to find a powerful adult wizard, such as Professor McGonagall, and have her cast a Confundus Charm on the Goblet of Fire to insert his name—just like Barty Crouch Jr. had done.
However, Ivan knew that given Professor McGonagall's strict and principled nature, she would likely only offer advice and wouldn't directly help him cheat.
Tap, tap, tap
Just as Ivan was thinking, a series of footsteps suddenly came from outside the door.
Someone's coming? Ivan's mind stirred, and he turned his head to look. Then, he drew his wand, pointed it at his chest, and whispered softly.
"Disillusionment Charm~ (Disillusionment Charm)"
A cool, water-like film instantly enveloped his entire body, and Ivan's figure vanished from the spot.
The footsteps outside the door grew louder.
A moment later, a male wizard who looked to be around seventeen or eighteen entered the Great Hall. He wore a robe and cautiously looked around. Seeing that the dimly lit Great Hall was empty, he breathed a sigh of relief and hesitantly approached the Triwizard Cup.
Ivan, hidden by the Disillusionment Charm, held his wand and closely watched the other's every move.
At this time of night, there were usually only two possibilities for someone to be here.
The first was that they wanted to participate in the Triwizard Tournament but lacked confidence in their abilities, fearing ridicule, so they dared to secretly submit their name to the Triwizard Cup in the middle of the night.
The second was that they were here to cause trouble, perhaps under Voldemort's control, planning to tamper with the Triwizard Cup, or a Death Eater who had infiltrated the school in disguise.
Ivan quickly ruled out the second option, as the young male wizard made no suspicious moves. After hesitating for a long time in front of the Triwizard Cup, he tentatively pulled out a piece of parchment with a name written on it and tossed it into the Triwizard Cup.
Blue-White Flames immediately engulfed the parchment, indicating that the Triwizard Cup had recognized him as a Champion candidate.
After completing this, the young male wizard seemed to have lifted a heavy burden and slowly exhaled, then prepared to leave, feeling both anxious and hopeful.
Perhaps he turned too hastily and accidentally bumped into the table in front of him, hitting his thigh on a sharp corner, which made him gasp in pain.
The Triwizard Cup on the table was also affected and shook slightly.
Ivan, who was secretly observing from the side, noticed this and his eyes lit up. It seemed that the Triwizard Cup had not been secured with any magic by Dumbledore!
This meant...
An idea sprang to mind, and Ivan dispelled the Disillusionment Charm, blocking the door and greeting warmly.
"Good evening, senior!"
"Who's there?" The sudden appearance of a person in the dark, quiet Great Hall startled the young wizard.
He quickly drew his wand from his belt, trembling as he pointed it forward. Upon seeing Ivan's face, he asked in a mix of shock and suspicion.
"Are you Hals? What are you doing here?"
"You know me?" Ivan raised an eyebrow, somewhat surprised, as he did not recognize the other person.
"Of course! You are the pride of Gryffindor... Before you came to the school, we hadn't won the House Cup for many years. Slytherin always outshone us, and there was Quidditch..." The young wizard spoke with great excitement about Ivan's past achievements.
"Winning the House Cup is the result of everyone's hard work in Gryffindor. I just did what I was supposed to do," Ivan said humbly.
"By the way, could you do me a favor? Would that be okay?" Ivan asked with a smile, not expecting the other person to be a fan. This made things much easier.
"What kind of favor?" The young wizard was taken aback, appearing somewhat flustered.
Ivan pointed to the Triwizard Cup on the magic podium and said, "It's simple. Just bring that cup over here! I want to sign up for the tournament!"
