Chapter 591: Christmas Ball (Part 1)
Chapter 591: Christmas Ball (Part 1)
Soon, the young wizards of Hogwarts eagerly anticipated the Christmas holiday.
However, this year, apart from the first, second, and third-year students who could not attend the Christmas ball, all other young wizards chose to stay at the school.
The professors, too, were clearly very excited about the upcoming Christmas ball.
They also wanted to leave a deep impression on the students and faculty from Beauxbatons and Durmstrang, showing them the strength of Hogwarts as the premier magic school.
With the combined efforts of all the professors, the entire castle became more magnificent than ever before. Every wall was adorned with exquisite decorations, and even the banisters of the marble staircase were enchanted to display various intricate ice sculptures that would never melt.
The twelve Christmas trees in the Great Hall were clearly more lavishly decorated than in previous years, with sparkling holly berries and continuously chirping golden owls.
The polished armor in every corridor was enchanted to sing Christmas carols whenever someone passed by.
This reminded Jerry of the large sculptures he had set up at his home in the Main World.
However, those sculptures didn't sing; they only used their weapons to impale the buttocks of any intruders who dared to invade the villa.
He had also heard from Hermione that Dumbledore had specifically ordered eight hundred barrels of spiced mead from the Three Broomsticks for the Christmas ball and had used his connections to invite the famous witch rock band, the Weird Sisters.
Although Dumbledore was no longer the headmaster, he had not yet left the school due to the Triwizard Tournament. He was also assisting Snape in taking over the complete management of Hogwarts.
Finally, the day of Christmas arrived.
At seven in the evening, Jerry, dressed in a black tuxedo, left his dormitory.
As he passed through the common room, the usual black witch robes were replaced by a colorful array of evening gowns.
His roommate, Draco Malfoy, was paired with Pansy Parkinson from his class, while his other roommates, Crabbe and Goyle, held large piles of snacks, seemingly not looking for dance partners.
Daphne, his extreme admirer, stood next to a sixth-year Slytherin witch, which he found quite fitting.
"See you later!"
As soon as he appeared, everyone's attention immediately focused on him. Jerry smiled, waved, and quickly left the common room.
It was Christmas, and there was a ball later, so he didn't use the witch-shielding charm to hide himself as he usually did.
He greeted the witches in various evening gowns along the way and finally reached the entrance of the Gryffindor dormitory on the Eighth Floor.
At four in the afternoon, Hermione had parted ways with him to return to the dormitory and prepare for the feast, which she said would take about three hours.
It was now seven, and the ball was due to start in an hour. Jerry thought Hermione should be almost ready.
In fact, because her main focus was on her studies, Hermione usually didn't dress up as much as other young witches her age.
Even after falling in love with Jerry, she had only used magic to shrink her teeth and to smooth her naturally curly hair before leaving the house.
Thus, Hermione usually doesn't look particularly pretty; she can only be described as average, especially with the large book bag she always carries.
This is the part that the young wizards of Hogwarts find most perplexing.
They don't understand why the exceptionally talented Jerry would reject so many beautiful witches in the school and instead fall for the ordinary Hermione.
The key is that Jerry is from Slytherin, and Slytherins generally place a high value on bloodlines, while Hermione comes from a Muggle family.
Could it be because of her academic excellence?
In reality, Jerry doesn't think there's anything wrong with Hermione's usual appearance. He isn't a looks-obsessed person. While he might be impressed and praise someone for their beauty, it doesn't mean he requires his partner to be exceptionally attractive.
In his view of love, if a relationship is based solely on physical appearance, it's unlikely to last long.
Because, no matter how beautiful someone is, if you spend every day with them, from morning till night, after a few years, you'll find that they don't seem as attractive anymore.
It's not that they have actually become less beautiful, but rather that you've become accustomed to their appearance.
At that point, someone who isn't as pretty might seem more attractive to you.
So, if someone is an extreme looks-obsessed person with very high standards for their partner's appearance, you'll notice a particular trait in them.
They tend to frequently change partners because they easily get tired of their partner's looks.
In Jerry's eyes, as long as his partner shares similar values and makes him feel comfortable, that's enough. He finds Hermione very comfortable and familiar, especially when she is focused and diligent in her studies, radiating a special charm.
They say that a man who works hard looks handsome, and the same can be said for women.
"Jerry, are you waiting for Hermione?"
Jerry had barely stood in front of the Fat Lady's portrait at the entrance to the Gryffindor dormitory for five minutes when Harry and Ron emerged.
Harry was holding Ginny's hand, who was wearing a pink dress, while Ron was being pulled by a slightly chubby witch, Hermione's roommate, Lavender Brown.
"Yes, have you seen Hermione?"
"She should be ready soon. She was almost done when I came out!"
Lavender, who was clinging tightly to Ron's arm, replied.
As soon as she finished speaking, the Gryffindor dormitory door opened again, and a beautiful girl in a flowing light purple-blue evening gown peeked out.
"Sorry, Jerry, I kept you waiting."
The girl shyly touched her updo and adjusted her dress, as if making sure everything was perfect.
"I just arrived, Hermione. You look beautiful today!"
Jerry, looking at the meticulously dressed Hermione, didn't hesitate to praise her.
Hermione's features have always been quite attractive, but her constant focus on studies has given her a rather rigid, nerdy image.
Now, with such careful grooming, the stark contrast has created an illusion that she outshines everyone else.
This is evident from the wide-eyed, disbelieving expressions on Harry and Ron's faces.
