Chapter 590: The New Twelve Guardians
Chapter 590: The New Twelve Guardians
Lu Yuan, Si She, and Ji Li had been traveling through villages and hamlets for two days and a night.
Ji Li glared at Lu Yuan impatiently. "Lu, do you even know the way? If not, don't pretend you do!"
Lu Yuan raised an eyebrow. "Sure, why don't you cast a divination to see where the Black Armored Army is?"
Ji Li: "…"
Despite his frustration, Ji Li eventually took out the Heavenly Compass.
He shook it and then held it up to the sunlight, muttering to himself, "That's strange. The water has long dried up, so why is it still broken? Is the Goddess Temple's compass really that useless?"
Lu Yuan replied coolly, "Blaming my grandmother's Goddess Temple for your own incompetence?"
Ji Li, unusually, didn't lose his temper. His expression was serious.
He said, "I'm serious. Do you remember the time my compass broke before?"
Lu Yuan said, without any sympathy, "Your compass has broken many times. Which one are you referring to?"
Ji Li didn't argue with Lu Yuan this time. "It was when Hai Zhu and Wei Yang were imprisoned. The compass's needle suddenly stopped working. I suspect someone who can't be detected by the Heavenly Fate has arrived in the capital."
Lu Yuan asked, "What do you mean?"
Ji Li sighed. "I don't know how to explain it to you, but everyone is born with their own destiny. However, some people seem to be forgotten by destiny, transcending it."
Lu Yuan thought for a moment. "Maybe you're just not good at it?"
Ji Li: "…"
Ji Li ignored the boy.
He didn't have the time to argue.
He walked over to Si She. "She, I'm thinking, could it be the person Hai Zhu met again?"
Si She said, "You mean the one who convinced Hai Zhu to turn against the dark side?"
Ji Li nodded.
Si She paused. "Could it be one of the Twelve Guardians?"
Ji Li said, "It's likely. The more I'm involved, the more karma I accumulate. When I can't bear it anymore, the compass will break."
Si She mused, "Of the Twelve Guardians who haven't appeared yet, only Wu Ma, Chou Niu, Xu Gou, and Zi Shu remain. One of them met Hai Zhu in the prison?"
Lu Yuan said, "If they're all part of the Twelve Guardians, what special ability do these four have that could break You Ji's compass?"
Ji Li finally lost his temper. "Call me Ji Li! Call me You Ji again, and I'll beat you to death!"
After shouting, the unease and frustration in his chest suddenly dissipated.
He calmed down. "There's another possibility—someone is helping him shield the Heavenly Fate."
Si She pondered. "The world is vast, and there are many reclusive talents. Perhaps some of them are skilled in this art."
Lu Yuan raised an eyebrow at Ji Li. "So, it's still your lack of skill."
"You're really asking for it!"
Ji Li and Lu Yuan started fighting.
Si She followed behind them.
He understood that Lu Yuan wasn't taking a detour.
After they were drugged and knocked out in the Water Curtain Cave, they were taken to a place far from the Black Armored Army's camp.
Lu Yuan wasn't really unconscious that day.
He had taken the sedative, allowing himself to be nine-tenths asleep while keeping one-tenth of his consciousness.
That was the hardest part.
Si She watched the two fighting fiercely.
The person who shielded the Heavenly Fate made Ji Li very uneasy.
Lu Yuan helped Ji Li overcome that unease.
As they fought, they stopped in front of a canyon.
Si She halted, his gaze passing over Lu Yuan and Ji Li to focus on the man standing in the canyon.
He was a man in his thirties, dressed in simple clothes, bare-chested and barefoot, not particularly tall but incredibly muscular.
Ji Li frowned, a flash of anger crossing his eyes.
Lu Yuan glanced back at Si She.
Despite his usual calm, a faint aura of killing intent now radiated from him.
"Go ahead", Si She said. "This is between him and me."
Lu Yuan had no objections.
Ji Li hesitated but was pulled away by Lu Yuan.
As they passed by the man, Si She’s eyes turned cold. "Your opponent is me. If you so much as touch them, I'll gouge out your eyes and make you eat them."
Lu Yuan raised an eyebrow.
He never thought the snake would have such a ruthless side.
Lu Yuan glanced at the man, who seemed to sense something. His brows twitched, but he didn't look over at Lu Yuan and Ji Li.
Ji Li snorted. "Hmph."
Once they were out of the canyon, Lu Yuan asked, "Who was that guy?"
Ji Li replied irritably, "Wu Ma!"
Lu Yuan thought the man didn't really look like a horse, but then again, Si She didn't look like a venomous snake either. Only this rooster seemed to fit his name.
He asked, "Does he have a grudge with Si She?"
Ji Li gritted his teeth. "More than just a grudge! I want to beat that bastard up myself!"
Lu Yuan leaned in, eager to hear more.
Ji Li, angry, said, "That scoundrel stole Snake's woman!"
Lu Yuan was surprised. "He has a woman?"
Ji Li exploded. "He's not a eunuch! Is it so strange for him to have a woman?"
Lu Yuan replied seriously, "It is."
Ji Li sighed. "Alright, she was actually his clanswoman, but she said she would follow Snake to the end of her days, wanting to be a devoted maid by his side."
Lu Yuan asked, "And then?"
Ji Li, filled with indignation, said, "Then that scoundrel Wu Ma tried to defile her! To protect her honor, she bit her tongue and died!"
Si She, despite his icy exterior, had a warm heart for his clanspeople.
Lu Yuan asked, "The Grand Marshal didn't punish Wu Ma?"
Ji Li replied, "The Grand Marshal didn't know. Snake didn't say anything, and he wouldn't let me speak either."
He added, "The incident would have damaged her reputation, and now that she's dead, at least her honor remains intact."
Lu Yuan nodded, understanding Si She’s reasoning.
"Snake has always wanted to kill Wu Ma."
Ji Li clenched his fists. "Unfortunately, the Grand Marshal had a rule: the Twelve Guardians couldn't kill each other. Now that the Grand Marshal is dead, his orders no longer apply. Today, Snake can finally cut off that scoundrel's head!"
Lu Yuan looked back at the distant canyon.
Their movements blurred as they moved, leaving only faint afterimages.
The air was thick with the aura of impending violence.
This was the first time Lu Yuan had seen Si She truly fight.
He was even more powerful than Lu Yuan had imagined.
Lu Yuan murmured to himself, "Kill Wu Ma, huh?"
...
A loud boom echoed from the northwest, making the ground shake.
Lu Yuan furrowed his brow.
Ji Li, cursing, looked in the direction of the sound. "What's going on?"
Even Si She and Wu Ma, who were locked in a fierce battle, stopped momentarily.
Wu Ma stepped back. "That's... the direction of the Northern Canyon."
Someone had breached the Dragon Trapping Formation?
Wu Ma said seriously, "Si She, I'll help you today to repay my debt from the past. Someone has breached the Dragon Trapping Formation, and it's collapsing! If it's one of your people, you should go save them!"
Si She asked, "Where does the Dragon Trapping Formation lead?"
Wu Ma replied, "To the Grand General's camp!"
Si She’s eyes flickered. "Chen Long."
