Chapter 590: Go to Sleep, Ron, Everything Is in Your Dreams!
Chapter 590: Go to Sleep, Ron, Everything Is in Your Dreams!
After setting up the Age Line, Dumbledore officially declared the evening banquet over.
Karkaroff and Maxime were still uneasy as they checked Dumbledore's magic before leaving. Only after confirming that the Age Line worked exactly as the old professor had described, and was powerful enough that even they couldn't break it, did they leave with peace of mind.
As soon as the headmasters were gone, the Great Hall erupted into a cacophony of chatter. Everyone was discussing the Triwizard Cup placed on the magic podium and the selection of the Champions...
"This morning I was still wondering who would be responsible for selecting the Champions. If Professor Dumbledore had done it personally, it would have been a disaster. I didn't expect it to be just an Age Line!" Fred's eyes sparkled with excitement. He was confident that a rigid Recognition Spell wouldn't stop him.
"Right! It looks like the Ageing Potion we prepared in advance will come in handy!" George was equally delighted, relieved that he had already brewed a bottle of Ageing Potion a few days ago. If they had started preparing in a rush now, it would have been too late!
After a moment of celebration, the twins didn't forget to share their joy with Ivan.
"I don't think it will be that easy to bypass the Age Line set up by the Professors..." Ivan gently warned, not wanting them to end up with a head full of bumps and a beard full of trouble.
"Really? We'll see tomorrow, this method will definitely work!" George and Fred paid no heed to Ivan's words, brimming with confidence. They thought it was better that Ivan didn't use this method, as it would mean one less competitor.
Ivan shook his head inwardly and stopped trying to dissuade them. After all, Dumbledore hadn't attached any harmful magic to the Age Line. If they failed, they would just suffer a bit.
Thinking about this, Ivan turned to look at the Triwizard Cup on the magic podium. He had some ideas on how to bypass the Age Limit, but he wasn't sure if they would work...
However, he had no intention of trying them immediately.
There were too many people around, and if his method succeeded, it would likely be copied by others, effectively slapping Dumbledore in the face in front of everyone—especially since the old professor had just made a bold claim.
Ivan decided it would be better to sneak over late at night. That way, if he failed, no one would see.
"Come on, stop staring. Let's go back to the Common Room!"
With this in mind, Ivan led Hermione, Harry, and Ron, who were still fixated on the Triwizard Cup, out of the Great Hall and towards the Gryffindor Common Room.
On the way, Harry and Ron discussed how they might bypass the Age Line set by Dumbledore. They thought that if George's method worked, they could try it too.
As they neared the entrance to the Common Room, Ron curiously asked Ivan if he had any good ideas.
"Who knows? I don't have any clear ideas right now, but maybe I'll think of something later!" Ivan shrugged, half-joking.
"If you do think of something, let me know..." Ron said, looking troubled, feeling that he was out of options.
Harry, who was more reserved, didn't voice his request like Ron, but his eyes were fixed on Ivan.
"You forget, just because I can do it doesn't mean you can!" Ivan glanced at them, sighing in resignation.
Harry and Ron opened their mouths to say something but remembered their previous Defense Against the Dark Arts homework and fell silent.
"Ivan, Harry, Ron! You might as well give up. Professor Dumbledore said that no one under seventeen can cross that Age Line!" Hermione couldn't help but interrupt their discussion.
Compared to Harry and the others, who were fantasizing about the glory and prize money that would come with winning the Triwizard Cup, the young witches were keenly aware of the dangers of the competition.
Especially after hearing that many people had died in previous Triwizard Tournaments, Hermione felt even more uneasy.
While she knew Ivan's Magic was very advanced, she couldn't help but worry.
Seeing Ivan so enthusiastic about becoming a Champion, Hermione naturally wanted to dissuade him.
They argued for a while, but things calmed down once they returned to their respective Dormitories.
"Hey, Ron, don't you like Krum and Fleur? Are you still planning to enter the competition?" As he was getting ready for bed, Ivan suddenly remembered something and curiously asked Ron.
"Fleur? Who's that?" Ron didn't answer immediately, instead asking in confusion.
With Hermione not around, Ivan didn't bother pretending he didn't know Fleur. "Of course, the girl from Beauxbatons. I heard she's probably a half-Veela…"
"Veela? I knew it, no wonder she's so beautiful…" Ron muttered to himself.
But after a brief daze, Ron quickly snapped back to reality. He looked at Ivan and stammered, "Even if I like Krum and Fleur, what does that have to do with me becoming a Champion?"
"I think they are probably the best students from Beauxbatons and Durmstrang, and they will likely become their schools' Champions," Ivan reminded him. He was curious to see what choice Ron would make between his idols, his crush, and his own glory.
Ron was taken aback. He had never considered this, but he couldn't deny that Ivan's point was quite likely. He found himself in a dilemma.
His admiration for Krum was genuine, and his infatuation with Fleur was undeniable, but the thought of the honor and prize money from the Triwizard Cup made him hesitant to give up.
Seeing Ron really thinking it over, Ivan scratched his head. He had only meant it as a joke.
"Forget it… take your time. I'm going to sleep!" Ivan yawned, exhausted. He turned off the lights and got under the covers, planning to rest early because he had plans for the late night.
Just as Ivan was dozing off, he felt someone shaking him. He forced his eyes open and saw it was Ron.
Ron's face was set with determination, as if he had just made a difficult decision. His voice was hoarse. "I've made up my mind, Ivan! For the honor of Hogwarts, even if Krum and Fleur become Champions, I won't back down!"
After hours of deep contemplation, Ron concluded that giving in would be a sign of weakness. Only by defeating them openly and winning the Triwizard Cup could he earn the respect of his idols, the affection of his crush, and the thousand Galleons in prize money!
Ivan looked at Ron with a strange expression, fighting the urge to comment. He spoke earnestly.
"Go to sleep. Everything will be better in your dreams!"
