Chapter 590: Arrival
Chapter 590: Arrival
As Chen Chuan's Shark Airship approached the Dewy District, the Defense Department and various government agencies were all closely monitoring the situation. This operation to eradicate the Ferris Wheel Tower involved multiple departments, and while it seemed to target a single company, it was, in fact, a trial expansion of the government's political authority.
Whether it was the previous Canglong Company, the Far Horizon Exploration Group, or the various departments involved now, they were all allies of the Great Shun Government.
If this operation successfully eliminated the Ferris Wheel Tower, overcame the Spider Queen Split, and eradicated the existence that had entered this world, the authority of the Jinbei Province Central City Government Hall, and even the Great Shun Government, would undoubtedly be greatly consolidated and strengthened.
Power struggles often resulted in a zero-sum game. The rise in the government's authority meant suppressing the City Council, which represented the companies' interests.
Especially with the Spider Queen Split, many companies' military forces suffered heavy casualties, undoubtedly weakening them. This would further reduce the City Council's influence.
However, all of this hinged on the success of their objectives.
In a warehouse on the outskirts of the Dewy District, Specialist Cao stood before a hologram, displaying intermittent images of the interior of the Ferris Wheel Tower.
"Specialist, your tea," a member of the General Administration Bureau brought a cup of hot tea.
Specialist Cao took the tea, sipped it, and kept his eyes on the hologram. The subordinate spoke, "Specialist, you haven't slept for three days. Why not rest for a while?"
Specialist Cao replied, "It's not a problem for now." Then he added, "Keep a close eye on the coast, and send any news back immediately."
The subordinate said, "Specialist, the third team is monitoring the situation there."
"What about the City Council?"
"As per your instructions, everyone is keeping watch. Nearby communication lines have been cut off, and field information has been disrupted. Even if they notice something wrong, they won't be able to send out orders in the Radiance Zone."
The subordinate hesitated for a moment, took a step forward, and continued, "Specialist, we discovered some anomalies near Qing Ding Mountain. Should we send someone..."
Specialist Cao raised his hand to stop him and said, "Let's focus on the most important target here for now." He gazed ahead.
At that moment, a liaison officer hurried in with rapid footsteps and said, "Specialist, the Special Operations Committee is here. They've asked us several times for the specific action plan so they can review it."
Specialist Cao glanced at his watch; it was 11:20. He said, "Tell them to set a location, and I'll go to them immediately. I'll brief them on the plan in person."
"Yes, Specialist."
In the northern part of the Dewy District, atop a building, Director Lei gazed toward the Ferris Wheel Company, surrounded by members of the Secret Sect Management Bureau.
"Director Lei, we've checked, and the twelve rituals are all in order."
Director Lei nodded. This time, they had set up twelve rituals around the peninsula where the Ferris Wheel Tower was located, all of which could resonate with the ritual established within the company.
Once activated, these rituals would respond simultaneously, providing support and backup to ensure the effectiveness of the main ritual.
A subordinate looked at the location of the main ritual and said, "Director Lei, the binding might only last for an instant. Even in the most optimistic estimate, it won't exceed a single breath. It won't be easy to seize the opportunity. Can the Defense Department's personnel handle it?"
Director Lei gazed in that direction and said with absolute certainty, "Rest assured, the person I recommended will definitely grasp this chance."
At 11:22, the sound of propellers filled the air as a Shark Airship entered the Dewy District.
As it approached, two other airships stationed at the edge of the region moved closer, providing support and cover.
This was to ensure the stability of the information transmitted by this airship and to confuse the target, preventing any internal interference.
Chen Chuan stood at the front of the upper deck, looking out through the porthole. He noticed that fog had set in, and the airship was surrounded by clouds drifting backward, with the ground below shrouded in mist.
An inspection officer entered the cabin and said, "Captain Chen, we've entered the Dewy District and are heading toward the Ferris Wheel Company. We should reach the area in ten minutes."
Chen Chuan picked up his wide-brimmed hat from the table, put it on, adjusted the brim, fastened his protective scarf, and finally grabbed the Snow Lady Sword that was leaning against the wall. He stepped outside.
The inspection officer followed him out and was instructed to comply with and convey all of Chen Chuan's requests and relay messages during the mission.
Chen Chuan reached the airship's deck and, seeing no one outside, asked, "Where's my classmate?"
The inspection officer replied, "They signed a confidentiality agreement and are not permitted to enter."
In the depths of a critical mission, despite being an insider at the Shark Airship Company, Pan Xiaode was kept in the dark. He had to sign a confidentiality agreement and accompany the team throughout the operation.
Chen Chuan nodded in agreement, acknowledging this as the best course of action. Some matters were simply beyond Pan Xiaode's level of clearance.
Chen Chuan glanced outside, where the sea breeze seemed to have dispersed the fog slightly, revealing the vague outlines of towering buildings below.
As the sun's rays illuminated the sea, the central city and the bright sky appeared to be divided into two worlds, intertwined and constantly merging within the mist and light.
As the airship moved forward, numerous rifts of varying sizes surrounded them, flickering intermittently.
The same caution applied to the flight of the airship, which had been deliberately slow to avoid any potential influence from these rifts.
Suddenly, a loud flapping sound filled the air as a flock of birds emerged from the rifts, skillfully avoiding the airship of their own volition.
This was due to the special coating applied to the airship, a combination of medicine and materials. Whether it was the insect cloud or the birds from the convergence ground, they instinctively steered clear.
Chen Chuan could now see the towering Ferris wheel on the coastline, appearing no larger than a coin from this distance.
He gazed intently, knowing that the final strike was in his hands, but the specifics were his decision to make.
After deep contemplation and consultation with Red Whirlwind, he opted to capitalize on the current advantage and launch a surprise attack from the sky.
En route, he had already submitted this plan to the Defense Department.
However, executing this plan was no easy feat. First, they needed to ensure the target was exposed outdoors, a task delegated to the ground team.
Within the Defense Department's command center, Liang Specialist checked his watch. It was 11:25 pm, and the Spider Queen Split had entered its twelfth wave.
"Is Captain Chen almost here?" he asked.
"The airship has entered the Dewy District," the female assistant beside him replied. "It'll reach the Ferris Wheel Tower in about ten minutes."
Liang Specialist turned his attention to the hologram screen, "Have we notified Lao Xu and his team?"
"We've notified them repeatedly and even left a message in the weapon box we sent. They should have received it," the female assistant assured him.
Liang Specialist spoke in a low voice, "Inform Lao Xu's team again. We're all tied to this plan, and no one can back out now."
"Yes, Specialist," she acknowledged.
Liang Specialist stared at the hologram, aware that everyone involved, from the fighting Xu Chan to the ground response units and the supporting departments, including himself, were pieces in this intricate game, all moving towards that final, decisive move.
The airship gradually approached the coastline, the shadow of the Ferris wheel growing larger in their sight. Chen Chuan, gripping his sword, stared intently, his hair stirred by the strong sea breeze.
The inspector received a message and looked up, "Captain Chen, we've been informed that the active consciousness body possesses psychic shockwave abilities with a wide range. We can't get too close."
"How far is it?" Chen Chuan asked.
"The report states approximately two to three kilometers, but it's only safe beyond three kilometers," the inspector replied.
Chen Chuan considered this and instructed, "Then let's raise the airship to above three kilometers. Can this airship do that?"
"It can go even higher, to four kilometers if needed," the inspector said. "But is this a good idea? Can we still launch an accurate attack from such a distance?"
Chen Chuan's response was firm, "Let's proceed with this plan."
The inspector didn't question further, ensuring the airship ascended as instructed. They were told to obey Chen Chuan's orders without question.
As their airship rose, the two accompanying airships followed suit, becoming nearly invisible in the fog to those on the ground, with only field information maintaining communication.
However, as they neared the Ferris wheel, Chen Chuan's keen psyche sensed waves of psychic power, now greatly weakened and barely discernible, even to ordinary people. He could imagine the immense pressure faced by those in close proximity on the ground.
Without further thought, Chen Chuan trusted that the ground team would fulfill their duties, just as he would his own.
Bracing against the powerful sea breeze, Chen Chuan leaned his sword against the deck and waited for the opportune moment.
