Chapter 59: The Final Truth
Chapter 59: The Final Truth
The surviving humans established the last Altar near this volcano, the one Liam saw. It was the only Altar left in Iceland; all others had been destroyed in the war.
They used this Altar to communicate with the surrounding environment. Afterward, everyone except the Wizard and his Disciple, filled with hatred, committed suicide, desecrating the Altar. This transformed the natural Altar into a Blood Altar.
Harnessing the resentment of the dying, the Viking Wizards communicated with the powerful energy stored beneath the nearby volcano. They then polluted and channeled this energy through the temporary Blood Altar.
By absorbing this tainted power, the Wizard and his Disciple temporarily gained immense strength, breaking the barrier between Liam's world and the real world. This powerful force carried the Wizards and the magical creatures into this new realm.
With the barrier broken, the rest of the space was filled with intense Spatial Turbulence. Most of the magical creatures were torn apart by the turbulence and died, while the survivors engaged in a brutal battle with the Wizards.
In the end, the Viking Wizard consumed the only treasure he had brought from his homeland: the Blood of a Mythical Giant Wolf. Transforming into a Giant Wolf, he fought to the death with the remaining powerful magical creatures.
Over time, the Spatial Turbulence subsided. However, the spirits of the dead still wandered this world. Liam was brought here because he released a large number of Sunlight Crystals and various plants in the real world. The powerful Life force awakened the Wraiths, who, driven by their past obsessions, performed Ritual Magic, which brought Liam into this world.
As Wraiths, they instinctively attacked all living beings. Liam had no choice but to engage in a fierce battle with them.
Liam also discovered that this world existed between the real and the illusory, leaning more toward the Spirit World. As a result, his plants couldn't manifest here, and his body, influenced by his soul's age, appeared to be around 20 years old.
After absorbing this memory, Liam awoke. He marveled at the immense hardship and sacrifice of humanity, carving out a path through the wilderness. He gathered the remains he could find and buried them beneath the Altar, then bowed three times in deep respect for these human pioneers. Although he did not agree with the Wizard's actions of sacrificing his fellow humans and engaging in wanton slaughter.
Clearly, the first group of humans to reach the island had sacrificed themselves, but in doing so, they eliminated over 90% of the magical creatures on the island. This allowed later humans to successfully settle there. Due to the effects of magic, the later generations had forgotten about the first group of humans who had landed on the island and made the ultimate sacrifice. (In that era, it was common for ships to set sail and never return, given the limited maritime technology of the time.)
Their homeland likely assumed they had perished at sea in a shipwreck. After all, it was an age without the Floo Network, Apparition, or even Broomsticks. For Wizards, long journeys were no safer than for Muggles; both were equally vulnerable to the forces of nature.
After lamenting the lost truth, Liam began to carefully review the memories he had just absorbed, trying to find a way out of this place. In the process, he discovered a new gain: the Life Magic mastered by the Viking Wizards.
Yes, Life Magic, not the Necromancy he had imagined. In that era, the Viking Wizards were known as Shamans, Wizards who communicated with nature and the forces of life and death. However, due to his madness in life, all his nature-based magic had been extinguished, leaving only the Life Magic related to life and death.
The Life Magic he mastered was divided into physical and spiritual aspects. After thoroughly reviewing the inheritance, Liam realized that this magic itself had no inherent inclination; it was simply the manifestation of the forces of life and death.
If used for good, this magic could heal the sick, strengthen the user, soothe souls, and drive away evil spirits. It even had a strong destructive effect on all twisted Unnatural Beings.
However, if it were used for evil, this magic could enslave souls, animate corpses, and even create countless Distorted Monsters. For example, the chimeras he had seen, composed of flesh and blood, were one such creation.
Initially, Liam found these monsters utterly evil and felt a deep revulsion towards the magic that caused all this. But after carefully reviewing everything, Liam hesitated. He was uncertain whether to learn these spells, torn between his desire for power and his fear of the potential consequences if they were to go out of control.
After a brief deliberation, Liam decided to accept this knowledge. After all, he now held the Multiverse General Store, and in the future, he would encounter countless worlds and countless types of power. Being overly cautious would lead to nothing.
Moreover, he realized that this power was not inherently evil. It merely manifested differently based on the user's intentions. Most of the magic he was learning at Hogwarts fell into this category, so there was no need for excessive worry.
For example, a simple spell like the Levitation Charm seemed harmless, but if used to lift someone and then suddenly removed, the effect would be no different from the Killing Curse.
This aligned with an ancient proverb Liam had heard in his previous life: one should never give up eating because of a fear of choking.
With this realization, Liam began to delve into the knowledge passed down about this world, in order to find a way back to the real world.
This world was not what Liam had imagined—a world created by the Viking Wizards. Instead, it was a small segment of the original world that the Wizard had isolated using the power of nature for his own use. Over time, with the disappearance of the Wraiths, the isolation had gradually weakened, making it easier for Liam to leave.
The essence of this world was the collective consciousness of all natural life, a key part of the World Consciousness or Gaia Consciousness. This world was not desolate; many Spiritual Beings lived here.
Wizards who were sensitive to souls or nature could easily enter this world. Even some Muggles, under certain circumstances, might stumble into it. Many mythological stories were based on the experiences of ordinary people who entered this world and witnessed its wonders.
After accepting the inheritance, Liam quickly mastered the method to enter and leave this world. With a gesture and a spell, Liam successfully left this realm.
