Chapter 59: Lanchi's First Day
Chapter 59: Lanchi's First Day
Finally, the longest 2 minutes of the Demon King's Theatre performance came to an end.
Lanchi and the Great Lover Poet had finished their performance.
On stage, everything returned to calmness.
The Great Lover Poet, with a mischievous smile, turned to look at Lanchi and then contentedly returned to his body.
Downstage, the audience had completed their infernal nuclear fusion, and it seemed like the frenzy would never cease.
Lanchi stood up from the piano and walked to the center of the stage. The lighting cast a solitary and detached shadow, as if the traces of the earth-shattering performance still lingered in the air.
In the lingering melody and vocals, Lanchi slowly raised his hand, bowed his head, and gave a deep bow to the audience.
It was an artist's bow, filled with sincerity and gratitude.
"Thank you, fellow students and esteemed judges, for your recognition."
His words were met with another wave of applause and cheers.
…
"Stop now, Lanchi… Turning back now will still allow you to retain your humanity…"
Hyberian covered her face with her hands and leaned back against the hard chair, like a storm-battered ship that had finally reached shore.
Her voice was filled with exhaustion, and her soul felt like it had been endlessly tortured. The prolonged performance still left her heart palpitating.
If not for her experience and preparedness in dealing with the Great Lover Poet, if not for her mental defenses, she would have likely fallen into the endless loop from which there was no escape!
At the side of the stage.
The originally neat and tidy silver-haired host, the Head of the Music Department, now looked disheveled, as if he had just walked out of a hurricane. His face was pale, bearing witness to a catastrophe.
Down below, the four music mentors and the demon students were either convulsing in their chairs or screaming hoarsely, their faces contorted in madness, having completely lost their sanity and trapped in the depths of hell.
In this theater bestowed by the Demon King, aside from Lanchi, only the highest-ranked and most soundly resistant teacher to musical magic, the Head of the Music Department, remained standing.
"Teacher, are you alright?"
Seeing the state of the Head of the Music Department, Lanchi quickly walked over to support him.
"I'm fine. I'm okay."
The Head of the Music Department pushed Lanchi's hand away. His voice trembled slightly, but his attitude was resolute.
As the Head of the Music Department, he would lose face with the noble families of the Demon World if he couldn't even withstand a student's performance!
Lanchi seemed to understand the teacher's stubbornness and nodded.
"Then, have I earned the recognition of the music mentors?"
Lanchi's gaze shifted to the four music mentors, who were now incoherent, and then back to the Head of the Music Department, inquiring sincerely.
"..."
The Head of the Music Department gritted his teeth, his eyes shifting between Lanchi's face and the four mentors below. He struggled to speak for a while, and his expression gradually became complex.
"According to the oaths the four mentors made to the Demon King before the performance, you will undoubtedly gain their full recognition."
The Head of the Music Department finally admitted and handed four course credit coins to Lanchi.
His voice was hoarse, and his words carried a sense of helpless acknowledgment.
Regardless.
The performance just now, though marred by some performance accidents, was destined to go down in the history of the Demon World's music. The program's effect could be called unique, and it would surely earn the praise of the Demon World's nobility.
It was just a bit exhausting for the students and teachers.
"Give me your student ID."
The Head of the Music Department continued, his tone leaving no room for refusal.
Having presided over such a grand performance for the noble families of the Demon World and having made a promise, he couldn't back out now.
Lanchi reached into his pocket and pulled out a black metal card, handing it over to the Head of the Music Department.
Soon after, the Head of the Music Department temporarily left the stage, exiting through a side door.
More than ten minutes passed.
When the Head of the Music Department reappeared, he held not only Lanchi's student ID but also a delicate, small nameplate and a silvery-white card.
"This nameplate will identify you as a staff member of the Music Department, and this teacher ID card works similarly to the student ID, but it's mainly for receiving your salary. From now on, you are a teacher in our Music Department."
True to his word, the Head of the Music Department presented Lanchi with the promised rewards. Now that Lanchi was officially a member of their staff, the Head's tone softened slightly.
Lanchi, with his talent for creating impactful performances, might be exactly what their Music Department needed.
Perhaps he even had the potential to become a high-ranking demon.
Lanchi accepted the teacher ID and the black metal nameplate, its outer edge adorned with a hollowed-out musical note design, and golden letters proclaiming, "Lanchi, Music Teacher," in the center.
"So, do I have any teaching duties?"
Lanchi inquired, admiring his new staff identification.
The Head of the Music Department remained silent, his gaze shifting from Lanchi to the hell scroll painting that adorned the audience seats of the Grand Theater.
His meaning was clear: Lanchi would have to figure it out for himself.
"Starting next semester, you can come and teach at the Music Department. There aren't many students left for you to ruin this semester."
The Head of the Music Department replied coldly.
"Er..."
Lanchi couldn't help but feel a twinge of regret. Come daybreak, he would have to return to the mortal world.
It felt like a wonderful dream that was ending just before the best part.
If he could stay at this school, he wouldn't want to go back to the Academy of Hecate.
"Then, can I drop out and become a full-time teacher now?"
Lanchi asked after a moment's thought.
He recalled one of the school rules that Bacchi had mentioned: students who failed to submit five course credit coins every morning would be immediately expelled, and the consequence of being expelled was execution.
However, there were some exceptions where the school would allow a normal withdrawal.
For instance, if an important institution or a powerful figure in the Demon World recruited the student, that would qualify as a special circumstance.
"You can apply to the principal, but there's no need to look for him today as he's not at school these days. Also, if you want to obtain a diploma from this academy and pursue better opportunities in the Demon World in the future, I suggest you continue your studies. As long as you manage your time well, you can teach at the Music Department while continuing your education."
"I see."
Lanchi understood the situation. His schooling arrangement would be similar to that of a doctoral student, allowing him to pursue further education while teaching at staggered times.
However, he soon latched onto a crucial piece of information in the Head of the Music Department's words—
The principal was not at the school?
This inadvertently discovered intelligence might be crucial to his [Mission Objective 2: Investigate the Source of Tonight's Danger].
After all, with the school's highest authority figure absent, there could be loopholes to exploit!
