Chapter 589: Lanchi's Holiday Has Begun
Chapter 589: Lanchi's Holiday Has Begun
On a midsummer night bathed in moonlight, a mansion by the bay was gently caressed by the silvery luminescence. In the bedroom on the top floor of the mansion, warm yellow lamplight intertwined with the moon's glow, illuminating the two figures present.
"Huberian..." Cardinal Lanchi, sitting in a chair by the bed, spoke with a hint of concern in his eyes.
"Please, don't say anything right now," Huberian's voice trembled, and her tone had lost its usual assertiveness.
"..." Lanchi seemed genuinely worried. Whatever he had intended to discuss with Huberian momentarily took a back seat; it could wait.
He wondered if Huberian had been adversely affected by the spell cast by the Fallen Lord, and he was prepared to call for a physician if necessary. Yet, he couldn't see her face; she had hidden herself under the covers.
"I'm fine..." Huberian's voice was soft and indistinct as she curled up further into the blanket, seeking a modicum of comfort.
Finally, she seemed to have calmed down and responded to Lanchi.
On this summer night, the sea breeze whispered, carrying with it the sound of the tides and a subtle chill. Though it was late, the moonlight streaming through the window lent an enchanting aura to the entire space.
"If you still feel like sleeping and having pleasant dreams, go ahead. I'll stay by your side," Lanchi observed Huberian for a while, ensuring she was truly unhurt, and then said reassuringly.
His voice was like a lullaby, gently enveloping every corner of the room.
"Lanchi..." After a brief moment of silence, Huberian murmured his name.
"Yes?" Lanchi turned to look at her once more.
"Were you by my side the whole time I was asleep?" she asked, her thoughts seemingly drifting between the tranquility of the summer night and the gentle sea breeze, pulling her back from the realm of dreams.
"Yes, the Fallen Lord assured me that the spell's effects would wear off and cause you no harm. But since you've already fallen under its influence, you might as well finish the dream. Sometimes, her talent isn't just limited to offensive magic; it can also be used to heal the mental exhaustion of her allies," Lanchi nodded, offering an explanation to Huberian.
It was said that in the Demon King's City of Nakalis, seeking psychological therapy from the Fallen Lord wasn't a matter of simply paying a price. Only those demons with a good relationship with her could be healed by her 'Fallen Land of Gentleness'.
However, he had never seen Huberian sleep so soundly, so he remained vigilant, keeping watch by her side.
"Thank you for always protecting me like this. I don't know how else to thank you except by becoming a duchess and fulfilling your retirement dream," Huberian thought for a moment before finally throwing off the covers, revealing her face, and speaking to Lanchi.
Her cheeks were slightly flushed, perhaps from a lack of oxygen, or so she believed.
Lanchi paused, a little taken aback by Huberian's sudden statement, and he felt a bit embarrassed.
"Haha, a duchess? You're a princess, my dear," Lanchi smiled and complimented her.
Even the Fallen Lord had acknowledged Huberian, and Cardinal Carliera would no longer be able to hold the emperor hostage. Instead, she would wholeheartedly assist Huberian, a true nine-tiered existence—a power unmatched by any demon they had encountered in the mortal realm.
This shadow world had completely recovered.
And once they returned to the Polante Empire, their triumph would be absolute.
Even the cat boss had said, "V Lanchi 50, let it get to work."
"Could we have Lanfu act as this princess, and I'll go back to the Polante Empire with you, living as an ordinary woman..." Huberian's voice trailed off.
She had been startled when her teacher, the Ice and Snow Witch, told her that she was a descendant of the Demon Tribe back on the Northern Continent. Now, she was even more astonished to find that in this world from tens of thousands of years ago, she had actually become a princess recognized by the Demon Tribe.
The acknowledgment of this nine-tiered devil was too overwhelming for her to accept.
"To be honest, not everyone can be a princess. Think about our old friend. Do you think Carliera would acknowledge her as a princess?"
As he spoke, Lanchi couldn't help but laugh, raising his hand to cover his mouth.
"Don't you dare talk about my aunt like that..."
Huberian replied with a hint of displeasure, but there was no reproach in her tone, as if she couldn't bring herself to scold Lanchi.
She knew that even if Lanchi said such things in front of Talia now, Talia wouldn't really do anything to him, except perhaps give him some disciplinary education.
As long as Lanfu didn't cause trouble and Lanchi refrained from drinking, nothing too disastrous would happen.
But Huberian was still worried. The more reckless Lanchi became, the more likely it was that he would eventually get himself into trouble again.
"..."
After Huberian's stern words, Lanchi seemed at a loss for words.
"Never mind, go ahead and say whatever you want."
Seeing Lanchi's aggrieved expression, Huberian's heart softened, and she said, "You're the best, Huberian."
Lanchi gave her a thumbs-up in appreciation.
"Don't say that..." Huberian replied helplessly.
They both laughed, and their conversation flowed as it usually did.
The sound of the waves outside the window now seemed like their whispers, rising and falling with the ebb and flow of their emotions.
They sat on the bed and by its side, gazing at each other as if discussing one of their endlessly fascinating topics, the awkward atmosphere completely forgotten.
In the bedroom, a warm lamp emitted a soft glow, and the curtains swayed gently in the sea breeze. Here, time seemed to slow down, allowing them to forget the hustle and bustle of the world and find peace and deep relaxation within.
In the corner of the room, a bookshelf was filled with ancient tomes from the Demon World, their edges slightly curled from the passage of time.
A small clock on the bedside table quietly marked the passage of time.
From the carved armchair to the demonic-style oil painting, the soft carpet absorbed every footstep, maintaining the quiet within the room.
"It seems you've had a good rest now?" Lanchi smiled and asked, standing up and pushing back his chair to give Huberian space to get out of bed.
"Yes, I've rested very well," Huberian nodded, shifting her body and pushing the blanket aside. She let her feet dangle off the bed and onto the soft carpet, relishing the sensation.
"Then let's head downstairs. The cat boss has already gone to prepare dinner," Lanchi said, gesturing towards the door.
"Alright, but where exactly are we?" Huberian finally looked around the room and asked.
After arriving in this shadow world, she had spent a month in the Nakalis Demon King's City and hadn't ventured beyond its walls.
Now, it seemed that Lanchi had finally taken her away from that starting point, and the mansion they were currently in was not in a location she recognized.
"This is Lise Island, prepared especially for you," Lanchi said, pointing towards the bay outside the window.
