Chapter 588: The United Front of the Weasleys
Chapter 588: The United Front of the Weasleys
"Well, it's been a pleasure doing business with you." Kyle stated, watching Rita Skeeter as she prepared to leave the Leaky Cauldron.
"I'm just a bit tired of writing, so I came for a Butterbeer. There's no collaboration here." Rita closed her handbag and clarified, "We just happened to sit at the same table and chatted about the Triwizard Tournament. I didn't say anything else, and I won't admit to it."
"Ah, that's right," Kyle said with a smile.
Rita then turned and walked towards the pub's entrance. As she turned, a look of relief suddenly appeared on her face.
Now that she had obtained the Animagus photograph, she no longer had to worry.
The only concern was whether Kyle would keep his promise and not reveal this matter.
However, Rita didn't think he would, as she had already paid him. That extra piece of information was worth it.
Normally, fifty Galleons wouldn't buy that name or all the evidence of Deputy Minister Umbridge's credit-stealing.
She believed Kyle understood this.
With this thought, Rita suddenly felt excited again.
She began to anticipate what Kyle would do... or rather, what Dumbledore was planning to do.
She didn't think Kyle's curiosity was the reason he wanted to inquire about Fudge's secret... From their previous conversation, it was clear that Kyle was firmly on Dumbledore's side, unwavering in his support.
They would undoubtedly do something unexpected.
But what would it be...
The struggle between a Hogwarts headmaster, the most powerful white wizard, and a Minister of Magic would surely be fascinating.
Just thinking about it made Rita's heart ache, as if scratched by a cat. She was eager to know, but there was nothing she could do.
Since Kyle already knew she was an Animagus, she couldn't transform into a beetle to gather information; she could only wait.
Rita reached the door and was about to push it open when she suddenly heard Kyle's voice behind her.
"Wait a moment."
Her hand froze in place.
"If you want to know more, you'll have to pay extra," Rita said, turning around.
"No, I just wanted to ask," Kyle said, "If there's concrete evidence proving that person has returned, will you report it?"
"Why are we talking about this again?" Rita obviously didn't want to discuss the topic, so she casually replied, "Well, if it's true, then someone is in big trouble... Of course, I won't miss the chance to record such a significant event in the history of magic."
After saying this, Rita didn't give Kyle a chance to speak and directly pushed open the door, leaving the Leaky Cauldron.
After she left, Kyle finished his Butterbeer and borrowed the pub's fireplace to return to his shabby residence.
"Fred, George, can you two keep it down!" Kyle had just stepped out of the fireplace when he heard Percy's frustrated roar, "I can't write my report with all this noise! It's important work that the Ministry takes seriously!"
"Percy, we're doing important work too."
"We need to test the product's stability; they paid us for it!"
"Well, you..."
"Are you sure our Minister will read what you write?"
"I bet it'll end up in the trash..."
"And then thrown away..."
"Because no one cares about the shape of Herb Pots; as long as they look good enough!"
Fred and George spoke in unison. Today, with Mrs. Weasley not at home, they didn't hold back with Percy and responded in kind.
As for whether Percy would report them later... he probably would, but they weren't concerned. After all, they were used to it.
When Kyle entered the living room, he was just in time to see a large bird with colorful feathers flapping its wings frantically.
"Kyle, when did you get back?"
At that moment, Fred came down from upstairs.
"Just now," Kyle replied, glancing at the frenzied bird. "What is this...?"
"It might be Ron," George added as he descended the stairs. "I bet he sneaked some of the biscuits we left on the plate."
As he spoke, there was a loud bang, and a cloud of white smoke erupted from the bird, transforming it into Ron.
"You..." Ron gritted his teeth, "What did you put in that plate?"
"Enhanced Canary Crackers," Fred laughed. "They turn whoever eats them into a canary."
"Seems like it worked pretty well."
"You did this on purpose!" Ron glared at them.
"Don't be silly," Fred chuckled, "We just forgot to take them back."
"Did you try flying just now?" George asked, "I think it should be possible."
"That thing can really fly?" Ron was stunned, having been too scared to notice anything else.
Even Kyle was surprised.
He remembered that the Canary Crackers were one of Fred and George's earliest inventions, but at that time, they could only change a person's appearance, and no amount of flapping would make them fly.
Ron seemed to have an idea and didn't care about being angry anymore. "Are there more of those biscuits? I want to try again."
"Of course," Fred winked, "Twelve Sickles each..."
"Including the one you just ate..."
"Two Galleons will do."
Ron thought he had misheard and couldn't help but ask, "You're charging me? And why is it two Galleons?"
"Oh, sorry, we miscalculated," George quickly said, "It should be three Galleons!"
Ron immediately protested, and the three of them started arguing noisily in the living room.
Then Percy came downstairs and began scolding them, causing the trio to immediately stop and stand aside.
Meanwhile, Kyle was sitting with Ginny, watching the spectacle.
This three-on-one situation was rare even in the Weasley family, and it was the first time Kyle had seen them unite so quickly.
"Percy doesn't believe in Headmaster Dumbledore."
Sensing Kyle's confusion, Ginny explained, "He chose to side with the Ministry of Magic, thinking that what Headmaster Dumbledore said before the holiday was nonsense. He believes we should distance ourselves from him... he even had a big argument with Mum a few days ago."
"I see..." Kyle nodded, finally understanding why the trio had stopped arguing so quickly.
In a way, this was a form of unity against external forces.
"Want some candy?" Kyle offered a handful of sweets to Ginny, "Don't worry, they're not Fred and George's Skiving Snackboxes."
"Thanks." Ginny picked a toffee and popped it into her mouth.
At that moment, the hands of the magical clock on the wall suddenly jumped.
Kyle instinctively looked up; it was Mr. Weasley's hand, moving from "Work" to "Home."
The next second, the front door opened with a bang, and Mr. Weasley walked in from outside.
Fred stopped teasing Percy and looked at Mr. Weasley, then out the window.
"Dad? Did the Ministry finish work early today?"
"Oh, no, I came back early," Mr. Weasley shook his head. He turned to Kyle, "Did you get the letter?"
"Letter? What letter?"
Before Kyle could finish, an owl flew in from outside.
