Chapter 588: The Gap in Strength (Third Update)
Chapter 588: The Gap in Strength (Third Update)
These dragon trainers couldn't even cast a normal flight charm, let alone the more complex version Jerry had improved.
The witches in their field were actually most proficient in stunning spells. Typically, when six to seven dragon trainers cast stunning spells together, they could force a Fire Dragon into a forced hibernation state.
This was something ordinary witches couldn't achieve.
"This is really something, there's no way to keep a low profile!"
Watching the Hungarian Tree Hive Dragon break free from the chains and fly toward him, Jerry couldn't help but smile.
"Then I might as well be even more conspicuous!"
Thinking about doing this for Snape and the honor of the school, Jerry waved his wand again, drawing a portal.
Instantly, the surging dragon flame rushing toward Jerry was completely sucked into the portal, then reappeared above the Hungarian Tree Hive Dragon, just a few meters away from him.
"Boom!"
The powerful dragon flame struck the Hungarian Tree Hive Dragon, causing it to plummet toward the enclosure below.
"Merlin, what am I seeing? Mr. Carmen actually used portal magic to perfectly block the dragon flame's attack and even sent it back!
This portal magic isn't just for teleportation; it's also a defensive and offensive spell!"
Ludo's commentary echoed once more.
Beside him, Barty couldn't help but rub his temples, knowing that his workload would increase significantly after this.
However, while the dragon flame was powerful, it clearly couldn't harm the Fire Dragons themselves. The Hungarian Tree Hive Dragon was merely caught off guard by the impact of the flame but wasn't injured.
So, after falling about seven meters, it quickly stabilized, though it was confused as to why its own dragon flame had hit it.
Fire Dragons aren't particularly intelligent creatures, so after a few seconds of confusion, it returned to normal and continued flying toward Jerry.
But this time, driven by instinct, it didn't release any dragon flame. Instead, it opened its massive mouth and lunged from below, intending to swallow Jerry whole.
However, what awaited it was another portal.
The audience below looked up at the sky, only to see the Hungarian Tree Hive Dragon bite down on Jerry, but half of its body was immediately sucked into the portal.
Then a bizarre scene unfolded.
A new portal opened behind the Hungarian Tree Hive Dragon, and a dragon's head with a gaping mouth emerged from the portal, biting the dragon's own rear.
"Roar!"
A pained dragon roar echoed from the dragon's mouth, clearly indicating that it had bitten its own rear.
"Poor thing!"
Hearing the pitiful roar and seeing the bloodied rear of the Hungarian Tree Hive Dragon in the sky, the audience, who had been worried about Jerry, now felt sympathy for the Fire Dragon.
This Hungarian Tree Hive Dragon had truly run into bad luck meeting Jerry.
There was no helping it; with Jerry's current strength, he could create countless tricks using just the portal, without needing any other magic.
If he had been a bit more ruthless, he could have used the portal's spatial cutting ability to decapitate the Hungarian Tree Hive Dragon.
But that wasn't necessary; actually killing it would be too brutal and wouldn't be good for Hogwarts' image.
Closing the portal, Jerry looked at the Hungarian Tree Hive Dragon howling in mid-air and decided it was time to wrap things up. He waved his wand:
"Shrinking Charm!"
A blue magic beam shot from the wand, accurately hitting the howling Hungarian Tree Hive Dragon, which now dared not attack Jerry again.
Suddenly, the enormous Hungarian Tree Hive Dragon began to shrink at a visible rate, eventually transforming into a model-sized creature, no larger than a palm.
Gently flapping its wings, Jerry appeared in front of the shrunken dragon, pinched its head, and carried it down to the large rock below.
By this time, all the dragon handlers had gathered on the rocks within the enclosure.
"Here you go, it will return to its original size in three hours!"
Jerry handed the shrunken Hungarian Tree Hive Dragon to the petrified and bewildered handlers, then raised the golden Fire Dragon egg in his left hand.
As professional dragon handlers, they were well aware of the Fire Dragons' resistance to magic. The fact that the Shrinking Spell had an effect on a Fire Dragon, and that the effect would last for three hours, was already astounding. This Mr. Jerry Carmen must be incredibly powerful!
"Congratulations to our Mr. Carmen, who has successfully passed the trial!"
Ludo's voice echoed across the arena once more.
The audience, who had been in a state of shock due to Jerry's actions, erupted into the most enthusiastic applause they had ever witnessed.
The cheers soared to the heavens, and it was likely that the Witches in distant Hogsmeade could hear them.
What had they seen? Not a timid and cautious attempt to steal a Fire Dragon egg, but a one-on-one, overwhelming confrontation between a Witch and a Fire Dragon.
Jerry Carmen had relied on his genuine strength to overpower the most dangerous creature in the Witch world with magic.
It was simply spectacular, incredibly spectacular!
This might be the most thrilling match they had ever seen. Even the Quidditch World Cup, where Jerry had caught the Snitch in just fifteen seconds, couldn't compare to today's solo battle against a Fire Dragon.
Quidditch was a hobby, but the essence of being a Witch was magic. Nothing could excite and thrill Witches more than powerful magic.
"Quiet down, quiet down! Now, let's see the scores from the referees!"
Ludo used the Sonorus Charm for several minutes to calm the audience, his voice nearly hoarse, before he managed to restore order and redirect their attention to the referees' stand.
The first to give a score was Madam Maxime. She hesitated for at least fifteen seconds before sighing and raising her wand.
A long, silvery thread emerged from her wand, twisting into a large "10."
Though reluctant, she had to admit that Jerry's performance deserved nothing less than a perfect score. She wasn't Karkaroff; she still had some dignity.
Next was Dumbledore, who also gave a "10", followed by Ludo and Barty, the two Ministry of Magic department heads, who fairly awarded "10" points each.
Finally, there was Karkaroff, the headmaster of Durmstrang.
He desperately wanted to give Jerry a "0" and save face, but even if he did, Jerry's total score would still be "40", two points higher than Krum's.
The outcome couldn't be changed.
So, under the intense gaze of everyone, he grudgingly and unwillingly awarded a perfect "10."
