Chapter 588: End Point
Chapter 588: End Point
"O~ Kuro, you're back."
In Lucius Kro's office, Kuro met Lucius Kro sitting at the main seat.
"Smoker's report was a bit vague", Lucius Kro said. "The old man's waiting for your report."
Listening to Lucius Kro's words, Kuro sat across from him, exhaled a puff of smoke, and said, "There's definitely an issue. Vergo is Donquixote Doflamingo's spy. He infiltrated the Navy long ago and has been passing intelligence to Donquixote Doflamingo all this time."
Lucius Kro's expression shifted to one of feigned surprise. "Oh~ How terrifying indeed."
"Gramps, you don't seem surprised at all. After all, he was a Base Commander", Kuro asked.
"Headquarters had suspicions during the purge", Lucius Kro chuckled. "Now it's just been confirmed through your report."
"What about Donquixote Doflamingo?" Kuro asked.
Lucius Kro shook his head. "That's above our pay grade. We can't decide anything about him."
Kuro leaned back. "Expected."
After all, as a world noble and a Seven Warlords of the Sea member with ties to the World Government, such a figure couldn't be easily touched.
"The Navy and the Seven Warlords of the Sea are peer-level units. That 'Heavenly Yaksha' holds a different status. To take him down, we'd need to abolish the Seven Warlords of the Sea system entirely."
Lucius Kro continued, "At this year's world meeting in Arabasta Kingdom, there are rumors of a proposal to abolish the Seven Warlords of the Sea system."
"I'm not in favor of that", Kuro said. "But our opinion probably doesn't matter much."
He personally opposed abolishing the Seven Warlords of the Sea system.
Except for Donquixote Doflamingo, who would inevitably fall, abolishing the system over him seemed unnecessary.
The remaining Seven Warlords—excluding Buggy—Hawk-Eye and Boa Hancock were formidable and neutral. Abolishing the system would only push them to oppose the Navy, adding pressure.
Compared to that, Kuro preferred recruiting more pirates like Hawk-Eye to fill the Seven Warlords ranks, using them as vanguard forces to handle pirate threats. Let pirates fight pirates—watching the chaos from the sidelines would suffice.
But such matters were beyond their influence. The world meeting had little to do with the Navy's limited authority.
"Bororo..."
As they spoke, Lucius Kro's Transponder Snail suddenly rang. He picked it up. "Hello."
"Borsalino, head to End Point. Stop Zeff—he's landed on that island!" Sakazuki's voice came through the Transponder Snail.
"O~ End Point? Mr. Zeff? Found something?" Lucius Kro asked.
"The Marine Base there has already reported—Zeff is destroying that island!"
"Old man understands. Kuro's here too."
"O? He's back? Perfect. Kuro, you go handle it—stop Zeff from doing something foolish!" The voice cut off with a 'click'.
Lucius Kro hung up and stared silently at Kuro.
Kuro pressed his lips together. "Gramps, I'll head out. I'll prepare to go to the base."
As he stood to leave, Lucius Kro spoke. "O~ Kuro, you know about End Point, right? Can't you help this frail old man?"
Frail?
If you're frail, the world would have no strong people left! Old man could slice pirates one by one and bring eternal peace!
"Terminal Island? The old man naturally knows about it."
Kuro's forehead vein throbbed. "What's that old man up to now?!"
He'd known about this all along.
"Ah, so the old man wants you to rest, but you must go. That man once taught you", Lucius Kro said.
Taught me?
Everyone who taught me got eliminated by the old man! Except for this one!
This old man founded his own Neonavy, luring away Navy officers to wander the New World under the guise of hunting pirates.
The Navy once captured a Neonavy officer—a former Vice Admiral. Though no intelligence was obtained, the higher-ups guessed his intentions. After all, everyone knew he was collecting explosive rocks.
Kuro knew too, but like the higher-ups, they looked the other way out of old loyalty, thinking this old man would eventually hesitate or use the explosives against pirates. Never expecting he'd actually target the terminal island.
"Teacher Zeff has changed", Lucius Kro's voice darkened. "End Point—the Terminal Three Islands. If destroyed, it'll trigger a chain reaction across the New World."
Kuro exhaled smoke, muttering, "Yeah."
Initially, he dismissed it as nonsense. How could three islands destroy the entire New World? But a casual chat with Gramps confirmed the truth, shocking him.
The Terminal Island was real.
"So now the New World is tense. Everyone's tied up. The old man can't move unless necessary. As his subordinate with sufficient combat power, go stop Zeff. Try to persuade him not to do this."
"Gramps, I just got back, and you're sending me off like this?" Kuro asked.
Lucius Kro shrugged, smiling. "The old man doesn't want to either, but you're the best choice now. The old man's getting old."
Old?
If you're old, retire!
Forget it, never mind.
Kuro glanced at him, sighed, and said, "Fine, I'll go check it out."
He shot Lucius Kro a glare and walked out.
Outside, Kuro looked at the sky, clicking his tongue in frustration. "This old man finally went this far, huh?"
He didn't want to act against this pitiful old man. Others could do as they pleased—he'd look the other way.
If Gramps went, he'd probably hold back too. Everyone owed him a debt, including himself. The unarmed combat Haki techniques he learned from him earned the title 'teacher'.
This matter truly needed persuasion.
The New World wasn't just pirates—there were civilians too. Even if the New World fell, pirates wouldn't vanish. The impact would spread to the Four Seas and the first half of the Grand Line, sparking chaos.
"Vice Admiral Kuro!"
A Navy officer ran over, handing him a Log Pose. "Admiral Lucius Kro ordered this. Please act quickly!"
"Getting old makes you forgetful, huh."
Kuro inhaled deeply, taking the Log Pose.
"Fine, old man will go. This damned Gramps, always dragging me into things!"
