Chapter 587: You Know Nothing of a Spirit Herbalist's Power
Chapter 587: You Know Nothing of a Spirit Herbalist's Power
A flash of white light tore through the air, and Lu Chen and Leiguigong emerged from the midst of the raging thunder.
"We finally made it out of that formation," Lu Chen said, a sense of relief in his voice.
Both man and beast looked a little disheveled. Leiguigong's green wings were charred in places, and the acrid smell of burnt flesh hung in the air. Despite their appearance, the beast still wore a mocking grin on its face as it turned to look at Lu Chen.
Upon learning that there was a huge spirit herb on the island amidst the thunder, Lu Chen had been intrigued. He had asked Leiguigong to lead him into the peripheral formation of the island. With his companion's guidance and his own proficiency in pupil techniques, they had managed to break through the formation after much effort.
Lu Chen swept the area with his spiritual sense, ensuring there were no anomalies before he dared to relax and survey the island.
The thunder on the island was denser and more vigorous than before. It seemed that the slightest provocation would set off a riot.
At the center of the island was a wide pool of thunder, its edges engraved with intricate patterns. Lightning crackled within the pool, creating a dazzling display.
At the heart of the pool stood a stone pillar, thick as a man and towering into the clouds. The pillar was inscribed with countless strange thunder patterns, and a towering green vine twined tightly around it.
The vine exuded an incredibly rich and pure life force. Within its leaves, one could glimpse green thunder leaping about erratically.
Numerous tendrils hung low, and at their ends, globules of azure spirit liquid could be seen. The liquid remained condensed, exuding a natural yet destructive aura—a bizarre yet reasonable sensation.
Lu Chen's eyes glowed with a layer of misty spiritual power as he scanned the area around the thunder pool, alert for any abnormalities.
Green light flashed beneath his feet as his Qingfu Shoes carried him lightly to a hanging tendril. He plucked a globule of the azure spirit liquid and was about to examine it closely when suddenly, a thunderous rumble filled the air, and Leiguigong disappeared without a trace.
Lu Chen's senses immediately picked up on a presence speeding toward the thunder pool.
"Fellow Daoist Lu?!"
The newcomer was the white-haired old woman, and her eyes widened in surprise at the sight of Lu Chen, as if she hadn't expected him to be there at all.
"Fellow Daoist Yuan, is it just you? Where are the other three Daoists?" Lu Chen asked, holding the globule of spirit liquid as he descended slowly.
"Perhaps they are trapped in some formation or have chosen to seek opportunities on their own. I haven't seen the other three Daoists," the white-haired old woman replied, gently rubbing the lifelike dragon head that adorned the top of her staff. The look she gave Lu Chen was complex.
"I didn't expect you, Fellow Daoist Lu, to break through the layers of formations and arrive at this Thunder Island first," she added.
"Just luck, I suppose. I have a spirit beast that's skilled in pupil techniques, and we stumbled upon this island by accident," Lu Chen said casually.
"I see," the white-haired old woman said thoughtfully, seeming to consider his words.
"By the way, Fellow Daoist Lu, the reason I came to this ancient herb garden is to obtain that spirit liquid in your hand. Would you be willing to part with it? I can offer a fourth-grade magical artifact as compensation," she said, her eyes fixed on the globule of spirit liquid in Lu Chen's hand.
"May I ask, Fellow Daoist Yuan, what is the origin of this spirit liquid?" Lu Chen inquired.
"I read about it in an ancient text. It should be a special type of spirit liquid condensed by that vine," she explained.
"That reason sounds familiar..." Lu Chen chuckled inwardly. He had used this excuse more than once to fool his fellow sect members in the Tianjian Sect.
"I apologize, but I cannot agree to that," Lu Chen said calmly.
"If it were any other treasure, I would have no problem handing it over as long as the value is equivalent. However, when it comes to treasures related to spirit herbs, I can only keep them for myself," he added, his tone firm.
"Are you suggesting that you will forcefully take it from me?" Lu Chen's eyes narrowed. "We came here together to explore this ancient herb garden. It would be inappropriate to resort to such underhanded tactics."
"How dare a mere late-stage Foundation Establishment cultivator and spirit herbalist attempt to stand against a fully established Foundation Establishment cultivator like me?" Lu Chen's lips curled into a mocking smile.
"Of course not," the white-haired old woman said, taking a step back and waving her hand dismissively. "I meant no harm."
"The azure spirit liquid that condensed on the green vine can be divided equally between us," she offered, a gentle smile on her face.
"That would be for the best," Lu Chen agreed, mirroring her smile.
The old woman circled around to one side of the Thunder Pool, her dragon-headed staff tapping lightly on the ground.
Suddenly, Lu Chen's body was enveloped in a white light, and the Thunder Robe he had obtained from the old woman began to disintegrate, turning into countless rays of thunder that entered his body.
An intense numbing sensation coursed through his body, paralyzing his flesh and clouding his thoughts for a fleeting moment.
"Despicable!" Lu Chen exclaimed, his face contorting in pain.
Even as the thunderous light erupted, the white-haired old woman's eyes gleamed with satisfaction. A gigantic dragon flew out from her staff, speeding toward Lu Chen like lightning.
The Thunder Robes she had provided could indeed help them pass through the Thunder Falls and resist the thunder, but they also contained a hidden mechanism that allowed her to control the robes and gain the upper hand when necessary.
"My apologies, Landmate Lu," she said, her thoughts reaching out through her spiritual sense. "Not only will the azure spirit liquid on the vine be mine, but the one in your hand will also not escape my grasp."
Just as the dragon was about to make contact with Lu Chen, loud and majestic dragon roars reverberated, creating waves of sound that pushed the dragon back.
"I've been wanting to get rid of this useless Thunder Robe for a while now," Lu Chen said as he stepped out of the thunderous light. With a casual grab, he effortlessly tore the robe from his body. His crystalline fingers gently crushed it, turning it into dust that scattered in the wind.
His physical body was exceptionally robust, and after consuming the Titan's meat, his self-healing abilities were astonishing. He could heal to the point where his flesh and bones were like new in an instant. The thunderous light from the Thunder Robe had barely any effect on him.
"I only wore it to maintain the thin camaraderie between us. Now, it seems that's no longer necessary," he said, his gaze cold and indifferent as he looked at the white-haired old woman.
"I never expected that spirit herbalist to be your hidden identity! You've kept it well hidden," the old woman exclaimed, her eyes widening in surprise.
A powerful spiritual pressure emanated from her, blocking out the constant dragon roars as she stared at Lu Chen in shock. "But even so, your cultivation at the late Foundation Establishment stage is clear to me. It will just be a little more difficult to deal with you."
Although Lu Chen's physical strength far exceeded her expectations, she still had full confidence in herself. After all, cultivators capable of cross-tier battles were as rare as dragon's teeth in the cultivation world, and each minor realm represented a vast gulf in power.
She executed intricate hand seals at lightning speed, her movements creating layer upon layer of afterimages. Soon, a pitch-black thunderbolt silently pierced through the thunderous light and shot toward Lu Chen.
It moved with incredible speed, reaching Lu Chen in the blink of an eye.
"You know nothing of a spirit herbalist's power," Lu Chen said, his eyes gleaming with the power of the Break Illusion Pupil Technique. The shadowy black thunderbolt was completely exposed under his gaze, with no place to hide.
A sword radiance flashed, and a peculiar spirit peacock with a strong Buddhist aura effortlessly obliterated the black thunderbolt.
