Chapter 587: The Oddities
Chapter 587: The Oddities
Nighttime draped over S City like a mysterious temptress. Her enchanting smile sent heartbeats racing, her alluring silhouette stirring endless fantasies.
Countless souls glimpsed her beauty once and tumbled into the abyss of desire…
Yet… she was merely a phantom, an illusion. You could feel her presence, but never pull her into your arms…
…
Liu Yue Sixth, 9 PM.
The chaotic energy of daytime had fermented into a kaleidoscope of neon lights and decadent revelry.
Outside a lavish restaurant in downtown S City.
Over thirty young adults spilled out of the building. Despite the early summer warmth, each was clad in formal attire—suits and designer gowns from head to toe.
Amid this crowd stood one striking anomaly.
First, she was undeniably beautiful—a beauty so radiant it could shame blooming lotuses.
Yet that wasn’t what drew attention. This group contained no shortage of beauties, including girls with equally dazzling charm beside her.
Her standout feature? A plain black long-sleeved T-shirt, faded jeans, and a messy ponytail. No makeup, no glamour.
For someone attending a class reunion, such casualness bordered on disrespectful…
Everyone knows any occasion can be relaxed—except this one. You must appear effortless, yet secretly care deeply.
After all, nobody wants old classmates thinking they’ve failed in life. Natural human behavior, indeed.
But Li Ruoyu, the oddball of the group, didn’t just fake nonchalance—she embodied it completely.
To her, designer labels or street-market finds meant nothing. She knew everyone here had succeeded.
“Haha, look at you lot—terrible at holding your liquor!”
“Who’s bad? Let’s hit Ktv later!”
“Bring it on! Just don’t use that raspy voice to summon security again.”
“Please—who’s the off-key queen here?”
“Hey hey, nobody competes with me tonight! I’ll foot the Ktv bill. Don’t hold back—open all the drinks!”
Tipsy and jubilant, the group bantered and laughed.
Except Li Ruoyu.
She lingered apart, silent, unnoticed.
“Ruoyu,” a voice suddenly called.
To her classmates, it sounded foreign.
Heads swiveled. Who dared approach the “Female Killer” uninvited?
They saw a stranger.
A young man in his mid-twenties—handsome, not dashing, but possessing a rugged charm. His eyebrows carried a devil-may-care edge, an untamed aura impossible to imitate.
“You…” Li Ruoyu blinked, momentarily stunned by Feng Bu Jue’s sudden appearance.
Feng Bu Jue looked uncharacteristically polished tonight. A designer suit. Polished leather shoes. A Bugatti idling behind him. Even his hair was washed and combed—unusual for his usual disheveled look.
“I came to pick you up,” Feng Bu Jue smiled gently. “You mentioned possibly drinking tonight. I timed it to wait for you.”
Realization dawned. Classmates exchanged knowing smirks.
“Never thought the ‘Female Killer’ had a boyfriend…”
“Congratulations!”
“That guy deserves a medal…”
“Hey, Li Ruoyu’s boyfriend’s actually hot.”
“Trying to steal him? Check his car first.”
“Pfft… just teasing. Obviously rich kids. Perfect match. I’ll stay out of it.”
A cocktail of emotions spread—coldness, mockery, envy, admiration. Not a trace of genuine joy. Unsurprisingly, Li Ruoyu had few friends.
Before Feng Bu Jue finished speaking, Li Ruoyu grasped the situation. Sighing, she turned to classmates. “I’ll head out first.”
“Go ahead! We understand,” chirped the organizers—ambitious graduates eager for her departure. Halfway through dinner, they’d already regretted inviting her. She’d sat alone, barely speaking, a ghost at her own reunion.
With several nods, Li Ruoyu politely bid farewell. Then, turning sharply, she shot Feng Bu Jue a “you owe me big time” glare.
Feng Bu Jue stood unfazed, smiling as she grabbed his arm and dragged him off.
…
Moments later, the Bugatti roared to life.
Feng Bu Jue steered into traffic, tail lights vanishing into the night.
“Explain,” Li Ruoyu demanded from the passenger seat, seatbelt still unbuckled.
“My cousin sister called. Said you were at your one-year graduation reunion.” Feng Bu Jue casually replied. “Gave me the restaurant address, dinner time, then hung up.”
“Why tell you?” she pressed.
“She probably sensed you’d end up in that awkward scene,” Feng Bu Jue grinned. “So she hinted I should rescue you.”
“Who was awkward?” she muttered. “I was fine.”
“Sure. You looked so out of place even I wanted to cry. Sitting alone, drinking spirits straight? Don’t you know drinking alone tastes bitter?”
“Mind your own business.” Her voice chilled.
“Getting mad? Go ahead.” Feng Bu Jue smirked. “I’ve got broad shoulders and strong arms to handle it.”
Her face flushed crimson—was it the alcohol or fury? After a silence, she blurted: “Do you like me?”
Feng Bu Jue nearly choked. “You’ve got wild leaps in logic.”
“Sorry, I’m slow on this. If you do, tell me. I’ll sort my thoughts.”
Feng Bu Jue paused a few seconds, then delivered a bombshell: “Not sure yet.”
“Okay,” she replied casually.
Silence returned… but the surreal conversation wasn’t over.
Feng Bu Jue couldn’t believe the awkward question faded so easily. Seizing the moment, he changed topics: “Oh, you won’t ask about my outfit…”
“You borrowed it from Xiao Tan,” she interrupted. “Even the Bugatti. Designer clothes were easy after that.”
“So quick to see through it.” He sighed.
“I don’t care what others think,” Li Ruoyu said softly. “I won’t attend these reunions again.”
“I didn’t want to either,” Feng Bu Jue sighed. “But… the world is this way.”
“We’re the odd ones,” she turned to him. “Too strange, right?”
“Haha… yeah.” Feng Bu Jue glanced back, eyes glinting. “But honestly… I like it this way.”
