Chapter 587: The Information Repository
Chapter 587: The Information Repository
"The door... it's opening."
Vivian was startled by the scene before her.
She was neither an Awakener nor had the ability to scout her surroundings.
All she saw was Lindsey reaching behind his back, and the door to the Messenger Hall in front of them opened automatically.
Knowing that there were defense mechanisms in place.
Vivian stared at the slowly opening door, feeling as if she were facing a beast with its vicious mouth wide open.
"Vivian, don't worry."
Lindsey patted the girl's head:
"I used the seal to deactivate the defenses."
"This ruin—at least this building, won't pose any danger to us."
As his words landed.
Lindsey took the lead and walked into the Messenger Hall, with Vivian following closely behind.
The girl spoke cautiously:
"Sir Lindsey, have you dealt with Messengers before?"
Lindsey briefly explained:
"Once, I was separated from my companions, so I went to the Messenger Hall and commissioned them to find my friends. During that time, I interacted with them and obtained the seal."
Vivian's eyes shone with admiration:
"Your past experiences must have been incredible, right?"
During their idle time.
Lindsey had briefly shared some of his stories, and at this moment, Vivian recalled those descriptions, her eyes shining with such admiration that they seemed to radiate light.
As for Lindsey himself.
After his adventures in the Seven Seas Alliance, he had become more open about his past. Aside from information of great importance, he was willing to share his adventure tales.
"My story—I can't say it's particularly impressive, but in terms of interest, I think it's quite something."
"Vivian, when we have time, I'll tell you all about it."
The young girl nodded vigorously, like a chick pecking at rice, her voice trembling with excitement:
"Okay, I understand!"
Lindsey and Vivian began their search within the Messenger Hall.
The good news was that the building's interior followed the Messengers' typical design style.
Based on his experiences in the City of a Thousand Sails and the Forest Courtyard, Lindsey quickly located their information storage area.
Numerous pages were neatly arranged on square-gridded shelves.
On the table inside the room, there were scattered pieces of paper, most of which appeared to have writing on them, giving the impression that they had been left in a hurry.
Especially with the protection of the Messenger Spirit.
The room was almost spotless, and everything was well-preserved.
Then, Lindsey's expression turned somber.
He had done extensive clerical work before.
To carefully sift through this vast sea of information and identify useful details, a day or two would not be nearly enough.
"This is quite a big task."
Lindsey muttered to himself, and Vivian, standing next to him, immediately spoke up:
"Sir Lindsey, I know quite a few characters, I can help!"
At this moment, Lindsey couldn't afford to worry about child labor:
"Alright, then help me search."
"Our primary goal is to find out why the world has become desolate, and secondly, to look for information about life forms with powerful vitality. As for the value of other information, you can judge that for yourself."
Immediately, the two figures, one large and one small, began their work.
Lindsey, being an adult, could easily reach the higher shelves, so he mainly focused on the more complex content on the upper levels of the bookshelves.
Vivian, on the other hand, brought over a stool.
The girl stood on it unsteadily, her upper body resting on the table, as she began examining the newer but more disorganized pages.
"Terrible news from the Law Capital—the Tyrant King has suddenly passed away, and the designated heir has gone missing. With no one to rule the world, the law is in disarray, and the Righteous Executors, the most proactive enforcers, are now expressing their own opinions.
"The peace still holds, but it seems that, just as recorded in the history of the Law Capital, a crisis is inevitable."
"The Steelblade Sword has suddenly gone missing, leaving only two of the three Great Artifacts of the Law Capital. The Righteous Executors remain silent about this, not seeking aid from the outside world, and no one has used the Codex of Human Wisdom."
"The war has officially begun. The Righteous Executors have left the capital, each fighting their own battles. The powerful ones among them are clashing fiercely, and the surge of Vital Energy and Will can be felt even from ten worlds away."
"The war is spreading, and the Cataclysmic Dragon has appeared in the West. According to limited prophecies and warnings from the World, some ancient evil is manifesting. It seems to be an old enemy of the Law Capital from the distant past..."
The messages in the Messenger Hall were neatly arranged.
Lindsey continued reading in the normal order, and what followed was the history of the Law Capital as recorded by the messengers, as well as the situation after the outbreak of chaos.
It was here that Lindsey encountered a dilemma.
He couldn't find the names of the Righteous Executor, Alvit, and the Law Knight, Baggett. Although it had been almost ten years, Lindsey still remembered the night when the village was engulfed in flames.
So, were these two people not even worthy of having their names recorded here?
Or was it that the messengers' records were not up to date?
Lindsey continued flipping through the pages, following the timeline. The absence of Alvit and Baggett was one thing, but even the Codex of Human Wisdom remained in its placed state in the Law Capital.
There was no record of theft, no special rebellion, and none of the past that Lindsey wanted to know.
"This... makes sense."
"I left there less than ten years ago, and the messengers withdrew decades ago."
"The information here can't possibly update itself."
Lindsey felt a bit disappointed.
He tried hard to recall his childhood memories.
Unfortunately, the Lindsey before Harvest Day was truly just an innocent child, confined to the village and completely unaware of the outside world.
Except for his parents.
The only thing that left a deep impression on Lindsey was the rye fields swaying in the wind on the Rye Plain.
"Lord Lindsey!"
As Lindsey was deep in thought, Vivian suddenly spoke up.
He turned and saw the young girl holding up a page in front of him.
"Look at this!"
Lindsey took the paper and read aloud:
"On the last day before the evacuation, a High Sage returned from the South. He said that he had discovered an eerie burst of vitality there, as well as some Awakened beings called Invaders, whose origins were unknown."
"..."
"Invaders, the South, vitality, and plague!"
More clues were pointing towards the South of the World.
That place was precisely where the Green Marsh was located, and it was the only enemy in this world that Lindsey felt was not easy to deal with.
After all, there was a precedent of a Sixth Stage Explorer going south.
That person has not returned to this day.
To be cautious, the enemy there should be around the Seventh Stage.
Lindsey reminded himself that this matter must be handled with care.
He was no longer a lone wolf acting on his own; before taking any action, he also had to consider the villagers in his territory.
"Vivian, keep looking, and let's narrow down every possible clue..."
"Wait, that's it!"
"How could I not have thought of this!"
At that moment, Lindsey smacked his forehead, and his thoughts underwent a dramatic change:
"This isn't an adventure anymore!"
"Why am I standing here, foolishly researching on my own?"
Lindsey turned to Vivian, and his smile became somewhat peculiar:
"Come, Vivian, bring all these papers over, and let's just take them back with us!"
