Chapter 587: Oh No, This Must Be Love!
Chapter 587: Oh No, This Must Be Love!
The young wizards all stared at Dumbledore on the stage, Ivan included.
Especially since Ivan knew that Dumbledore had been targeted by a Horcrux and was likely only kept alive by potions, he was concerned about the old professor's health.
However, Ivan couldn't help but notice that Dumbledore's aura not only showed no signs of weakening but seemed even stronger than before. The occasional bursts of magic alone were enough to awe everyone in the Great Hall.
Is this a last burst of energy? Ivan wondered to himself.
On the stage, Dumbledore's gaze swept across the Great Hall before he smiled and said, "Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, ghosts... and of course, our guests! I am delighted to welcome you to Hogwarts..."
As Dumbledore spoke, the oppressive atmosphere in the Great Hall dissipated, and Ivan and the others breathed a sigh of relief.
The students from Beauxbatons and Durmstrang, however, did not look pleased. They believed Dumbledore was intentionally giving them a taste of his power.
A Beauxbatons girl even let out a mocking laugh.
Dumbledore pretended not to hear and continued his welcoming speech, which went on for several minutes before he finally got to the main point.
"The champion selection for the Triwizard Tournament will begin at the end of the banquet. For now, I think you all need to warm up and enjoy a hearty meal!" Dumbledore said, waving his wand and tapping it lightly in the air.
The flames in the fireplace roared to life, and the warm waves chased away the chill of the night. The students who had been waiting in the cold for hours felt a renewed sense of vigor.
Then, on the long tables of the Four Houses, platters of various delicious dishes appeared out of nowhere.
Ivan was surprised to see many new dishes on the table, likely French and Nordic cuisines to cater to the students from Beauxbatons and Durmstrang.
Ivan tried some of the new dishes and found them quite tasty. The House-elves' culinary skills were truly exceptional.
The warm, cozy atmosphere and the sumptuous feast successfully put the visiting students at ease.
The Durmstrang students took off their fur cloaks, revealing their muscular builds and blood-red school robes.
The Beauxbatons girls also removed their hoods and scarves, enjoying their dinner.
However, this caused a bit of a commotion. When one of the girls took off her scarf, the Ravenclaw students around her were stunned, and many of the boys stared at her in fascination.
One boy, too entranced, accidentally knocked over his goblet, spilling the drink on the students next to him, causing several screams from the Ravenclaw table.
The Beauxbatons girl couldn't help but giggle at the scene, chatting and laughing with a few other girls, seemingly enjoying the attention.
The sudden screams drew more attention, and Ivan, of course, looked over as well.
Although he had never seen her in person before, Ivan glanced over and quickly spotted the half-Veela girl, Fleur Delacour, in the crowd!
Ivan curiously examined her. From her appearance alone, Fleur could only be described as a pretty girl, but the magical thing about her was the unique aura she possessed. It was as if she were a magnet, drawing everyone's attention and making it impossible to look away.
Ron, standing beside him, had his eyes wide open, staring at Fleur in a daze, not even hearing Harry call his name.
Fleur, who was sitting at the Ravenclaw table, suddenly turned her gaze in their direction. Her bright blue eyes lingered on Ivan for a moment.
Upon realizing that Ivan was looking at her, Fleur couldn't help but smile, revealing a row of white, even teeth.
"Wow, she’s looking at me!" Ron's voice trembled with excitement, and his body shuddered when Fleur's gaze swept over him.
Oh no, this is love at first sight!
In a few short seconds, Ron's mind raced with thoughts, especially when Fleur smiled at him. He even started thinking about names for their future children.
However, Fleur's gaze didn't stay on them for long. She quickly turned her head to look at the Hufflepuff house's long table.
Ivan noticed that she was looking at Cedric.
Ron also noticed this and his face turned red with frustration, as if his beloved goddess had suddenly fallen in love with someone else.
"Is she really that pretty?" a voice suddenly sounded in their ears.
Ivan turned around to see Hermione pursing her lips and staring at him. The steak in front of her was punctured with several holes from her fork and knife.
"Cough, you mean the Beauxbatons girl? Hmm… she’s just average!" Ivan cleared his throat and said nonchalantly.
Hermione's expression improved slightly, but before she could say anything, Ron couldn't help but exclaim.
"No way, Ivan? You actually think she’s just average? I’ve never seen such a beautiful girl! There’s no one like her in all of Hogwarts!"
Ivan rolled his eyes, not entirely agreeing with Ron.
But the Veela's charm was indeed powerful, and even he had been slightly affected by it.
Ivan looked around and noticed that most of the young wizards in the Great Hall were under its influence, staring intently at Fleur. Only a handful of wizards seemed unaffected.
For example, Cedric from Hufflepuff, after making eye contact with Fleur, simply raised his goblet in a gesture of acknowledgment.
And then there was Harry, who, though he was also looking at the Ravenclaw table, was clearly focused on Cho Chang…
"She even smiled at me!" Ron continued to revel in the charm of Fleur, relishing that smile, convinced he would remember it forever.
"Don’t be silly, Ron, she wasn’t looking at you!" Hermione bluntly interrupted Ron's daydream. She turned to look at Fleur and, as expected, saw her shift her gaze from Cedric to the Durmstrang students. She added,
"She was just trying to figure out who her opponents would be!"
Ivan nodded in agreement. As the almost predestined Champion for Beauxbatons, it was normal for Fleur to gather information from the Ravenclaw students.
The most famous young wizards at Hogwarts were himself, and that was probably why she looked at him. However, due to his age, Fleur likely thought he was too young to be selected, so she focused on Cedric instead.
