Chapter 586: South and East
Chapter 586: South and East
In the south of the Wasteland World, a rare sight awaited. A basin lay there, devoid of the usual air of decay.
Dark pools of water covered the earth, forming swamps that brought moisture and a putrid stench to this vast area.
Within the muddy swamps, emaciated figures toiled, planting lotus-like plants in the water. Even with their feet distorted and deformed, they remained unmoved.
These individuals had a lifeless expression, their eyes dull and spiritless.
They seemed to work mechanically, like puppets, across the swamp, devoid of hope and future.
Deep within the swamp basin, azure stones were stacked to form towering and sturdy walls.
This was Green Island City, the heart of the Green Marsh, and the largest power in the Wasteland World.
Yet, even within the city, most people wore tattered clothing.
Although they were in better condition than the laborers outside, their primary expressions remained dull and listless.
Only a few Awakened individuals bearing Source Essence could walk calmly within the city, looking down upon the ordinary folk with an air of superiority.
At the center of Green Island City, a murky green lake housed a solitary island with a low-lying palace constructed from azure stones.
The area around the lake was almost deserted.
Only two men, clad in black robes, stood side by side. One had a scorpion emblem on his robe, while the other bore an eagle.
They gazed at the palace on the island in the lake.
The man on the left, with the eagle emblem, spoke first: "How long has it been since we received news from our informants in the east?"
The man on the right replied, "About half a year, I believe."
"It's been over six months!" The man on the left emphasized, "Our scouts usually report every six months. And the people in the east have never been late with their reports before; they must have encountered some trouble!"
The man on the right scoffed, "So what? Isn't it normal for people to die in the Wasteland?"
"Let's wait another six months, make it a full year, and then send someone to investigate, as per the rules."
The man on the left did not take this lightly. He spoke seriously, "Normally, handling it this way is fine."
"But don't forget what we just did in the east."
The man on the right raised an eyebrow, "You mean the Aro Camp?"
"Even that Law Knight is now our slave. With only those ordinary people left, what kind of trouble could they possibly stir up?"
"Don't tell me that, under the bright sun, someone suddenly became an Awakened, and it's still two years until Harvest Day!"
The man on the left fell silent, while the man on the right continued with a heightened tone:
"Of course, you can be worried."
"So, let's go and report this to our great king."
The man on the left glanced at the palace on the island in response.
His previous viewpoint was merely a reasonable speculation, but to bother their lord, the Snake King, over such a matter...
No one would be that foolish.
The man on the right, sensing his companion's thoughts, laughed, "Right? That should settle it."
"I know you're concerned."
"But the less we do, the fewer mistakes we make. Let's follow the rules. When the time comes, we'll send our scouts to check the situation. As long as we organize another clearance before Harvest Day, any trouble will dissipate!"
After saying this, the man on the right suddenly sighed.
He glanced at the palace on the island with a mocking look and then gazed towards the direction of the city's outskirts, "The world has become so broken.
"What else can we do?"
"Should we head west and fight for our lives against the Cataclysmic World, or go to the Dust Path World and spar with those crazed Law Enforcers?"
"For us, just staying alive is already a miracle!"
"..."
In the eastern part of the world, Lindsey and Vivian were racing along the abandoned World Highway.
This time, they weren't burdened by ordinary people.
Lindsey was incredibly fast.
Even considering Vivian's physical limits, he halved the two-month journey.
It was not yet June.
In the distance, the hill with the Teleport Courtyard was faintly visible on the horizon.
The petite Vivian lay on Lindsey's back, and under the starry sky, she noticed his slowing steps:
"Lord Lindsey, are we there yet?"
Lindsey replied, "Not yet, we're just using this place as a coordinate."
"Now, if we change direction, we'll be there in two days."
Lindsey should change course according to Elder Lane's instructions.
Just as he promised.
A journey that would take ordinary people a week, Lindsey quickened his pace and reached the destination in just over two days.
On the desolate land, there was a city in ruins, scattered and dilapidated.
Dull and heavy Essence undulated among the ruins, and there were no living beings left on the dilapidated streets.
Some well-preserved buildings still stood among the broken houses.
They were also the source of this Essence power.
"For ordinary people, it's too dangerous..."
Lindsey sighed.
With his abilities, identifying dangers was not difficult; he could easily find a safe path.
Distinguishing the functions of these buildings was also not a challenge.
Because on top of the Messenger Hall, an octagonal symbol resembling the North Star stood tall. No one dared to imitate the mark of the world's capital, especially with the influence of this force across the universe.
Vivian followed Lindsey to the Messenger Hall.
"This is... the Messenger Hall..."
The child lifted her head, and the massive building entered her azure pupils.
The Banyan Forest architecture blended naturally with its surroundings, exuding a unique artistic beauty. The Messenger Hall, a purely man-made structure with a strong style, also impressed Vivian with its grandeur.
"That's right, next, we need to find a way in."
Lindsey took a deep breath.
He switched modules and first used his detection ability on the building before him.
[Building - Guardian Spirit - Harmony Prayer]
[A massive building designed to ensure spacious roads for people entering and exiting, with a clear internal structure and high utilization rate...]
[The Messenger Spirit communicates with the world, causing everything within the building's range to protect and seal it, only allowing qualified individuals to enter. Unless immune to this influence, pure force alone cannot destroy it.]
"..."
"Qualified individuals..."
Lindsey originally planned to think of a solution.
But just before he took action, an item from his memory resurfaced:
"Maybe this will be useful?"
Lindsey took out the iron token given to him by the Messenger when investigating Ruby's news.
Swipe—
In an instant, a flash of light appeared on the door of the Messenger Hall.
This small seal could actually serve as a pass, and the Messenger Hall, sealed for decades, opened its doors for Lindsey!
