Chapter 585: The Most Dangerous Dragons (Third Update)
Chapter 585: The Most Dangerous Dragons (Third Update)
"You said before that Charlie's current job is researching dragons in Romania. This time, he came to Hogwarts to oversee the first task, which is a test of courage.
Last time, Barty mentioned that the first task is very dangerous and could be fatal if things go wrong. The only thing I could think of was dragons.
Oh my God, are they crazy? They’re actually making Jerry face off against dragons!"
Hermione explained, fuming with anger.
Harry and Ron exchanged glances and thought in unison:
"These two really are a perfect match."
"If you two ever have a child, it will definitely be the smartest kid in the world!"
Ron couldn't resist adding a comment.
Hermione, who had been worried about Jerry, blushed instantly at Ron's remark.
Mentioning children caught her off guard!
"Ahem, since Charlie is in charge, he must have told you about the content of the competition, right?"
Jerry quickly changed the subject to divert attention.
Ron nodded in response:
"Yes, Charlie said that although the rules prohibit them from revealing the first task to others, this kind of cheating is a tradition in the Triwizard Tournament.
Yesterday, Karkaroff and Maxime both used their connections to get the details of the first task from Charlie's colleagues. So, he asked me to tell you as well."
Then, Ron explained the specifics of the first task.
The rules of the first task were simple: steal a dragon egg from under the belly of an adult dragon.
The time taken, the use of magic, and the condition of the dragon egg were all part of the evaluation criteria. After success, the five referees would score based on the situation, and the total score would be the sum of their ratings.
If a champion failed and was killed by the dragon during the egg theft, no one would come to their aid.
For a typical, ungraduated witch, defeating an adult dragon was impossible.
Adult dragons are immune to most magic, and even dragon handlers would need a dozen people working together to subdue one, and that's only if the dragon is on the ground and not flying.
So, this task wasn't about defeating the dragon but using intelligence, courage, and magic to steal the dragon egg and escape without being killed by the dragon.
"This isn't like Hagrid's baby dragons; these are real adult dragons. Jerry, are you confident?"
Hermione, Harry, and Ron all wore worried expressions.
They knew Jerry was powerful, but these were adult dragons, the top-tier magical beasts.
"Don't worry, I have a lot of experience dealing with dragons."
Seeing their worried faces, Jerry, who should have been the most concerned, reassured them as if it were nothing.
There was no pressure for him. With his strength, he could knock out a dragon using just his physical power, without even needing magic.
Moreover, his Ring World had already raised over a thousand dragons thanks to the time rule.
Monday morning, the entire school was filled with a tense and excited atmosphere.
An announcement in the Great Hall that morning informed all students that afternoon classes would be canceled. Instead, everyone was to gather at the Quidditch Pitch, which had been temporarily converted into a Dragon Enclosure, to witness the first task of the Triwizard Tournament.
The morning dragged on, leaving everyone anxious. As soon as lunch was over, Headmaster Snape arrived in the Great Hall and took Jerry away.
By this time, Snape was aware of the specifics of the task, but he was not at all worried about Jerry.
He knew that with Jerry's magical prowess, the dragon posed no real threat to him.
So, when he led Jerry to the tent specially prepared for the three champions, he simply patted Jerry's shoulder and turned to leave.
"Good afternoon, everyone!"
Jerry stepped into the tent and greeted Fleur and Cedric, who looked pale and grim.
Clearly, despite knowing the task and having received guidance from their respective headmasters, they were still terrified of the dragons they would face.
They knew that one wrong move could result in them being burned to a crisp.
Thus, they had no heart to respond to Jerry's greeting, only nodding slightly in acknowledgment.
However, Jerry understood their state of mind and didn't mind. He simply sat down, poured himself a cup of tea, and sipped it leisurely.
Jerry's calm demeanor impressed both Krum and Fleur. Regardless of their own abilities, they couldn't help but admire his composure in the face of such a daunting challenge.
After about half an hour, Ludo, wearing his old Wasp Team uniform from his playing days, entered the tent with a purple velvet bag.
"It looks like everyone is here, and the audience is ready. Let me explain the specifics of the task you'll be facing."
After explaining the details with a smile, Ludo held up the velvet bag.
"First, you need to draw the model of the dragon you will face. Ladies first!"
The bag was presented to Fleur, who looked a bit green. With a trembling hand, she drew a small, wriggling dragon model from the bag—it was a Welsh Green Dragon, with the number 2 tied around its neck.
Clearly, she would face the Welsh Green Dragon and be the second to go.
"Fleur, what excellent luck!"
Ludo smiled when he saw the dragon Fleur had drawn.
The Welsh Green Dragon is considered the most temperamental and safest of all dragons. They are relatively small and feed on small sheep, only attacking humans if provoked.
Thus, among the three dragons, it is the safest and easiest to handle.
Next was Krum, whose luck wasn't as good. He drew the Chinese Fireball Dragon, with the number 1 tied around its neck.
The Chinese Fireball Dragon has the longest flame attack range of all dragons. Instead of a wide area of flame, it spits large fireballs.
These dragons are naturally aggressive and have a particular fondness for pigs and humans.
If Krum isn't careful, he could be swallowed whole by the Chinese Fireball Dragon and end up as dragon droppings.
"Good luck, Mr. Krum!"
After Krum drew, Ludo turned to Jerry with a sympathetic look before he could draw.
With only three dragons and two already drawn, Ludo knew exactly which one was left.
The Hungarian Horntail, the most dangerous of the three!
