Chapter 585: I'm Back?
Chapter 585: I'm Back?
Five minutes.
Lida looked up. Sure enough, the sky that had just cleared was now darkening ominously.
Boom!
A thunderous explosion split the air. Muffled rumbles rolled across the heavens like before, that suffocating pressure once again settling over Lida and Klah.
"Let's retreat, Lida", Klah said.
"Retreat where?"
Lida stared at the sky. "We can't escape this range in five minutes. There's no way out."
"But the Devil Fruit user who controls time said this was possible."
Klah analyzed, "He said the later arrivals were saved. That means Young Noble Kuro will return. We can't just wait here helplessly."
"Fine. Do as you say", Lida replied.
As they contacted the Navy on the island to prepare their retreat, a scene identical to twenty years prior unfolded. A gentle breeze stirred behind Roger when suddenly Kuro materialized behind him.
Everything seemed to freeze - even Roger's movements halted mid-motion.
Click.
Kuro Sheathing his blade, he tilted his head to bite a cigar, exhaling a plume of smoke. His hooded cloak billowed behind him.
"Feel this rhythm. Listen carefully. This is the final echo of the divine wind", Kuro said calmly.
"Roger!!"
Jaba's body continued falling as he turned his head to ask something. But then he saw Roger's chest erupt in a spray of blood. The crimson droplets splashed into the seawater, mixing into a murky red haze.
Roger's clothes were torn through, revealing a deep gash beneath.
"Roger!!!" Jaba roared, instantly reacting. Gripping his twin axes, he unleashed a powerful whirlwind of Haki like a tornado, hurling them straight at Kuro.
Meanwhile, the remaining crew on the ship battered by waves witnessed the scene.
"Roger!!"
The same anguished cry rang out. Silvers Rayleigh raised his sword and slashed forward, conjuring a massive arc of a wisp.
Though the distance obscured their figures, that spray of blood was unmistakable.
Roger's life aura plummeted at that moment.
As Rayleigh swung his blade, the military-clad man beside him stomped his feet, shattering the ship's deck. With explosive force, he rocketed toward Kuro.
Kuro casually drew Autumn Water, its blade glowing with golden lightning. Gripping the sword with both hands, he slashed sideways. With a metallic clang, he intercepted the two flying axes.
Boom!
The seawater beneath him exploded from the shockwave, creating a towering wave.
He couldn't dodge those axes - their speed had been too great. He could only take the hit head-on.
Kuro exerted force, flinging the axes aside. As he prepared to press his advantage against Roger, a thunderous roar erupted from his flank. The waves parted as a powerful air current surged forth, revealing a muscular military man charging forward with blinding speed.
Bang!!
Kuro crossed his blade in a defensive stance, blocking the soldier's punch. The impact reverberated with a deafening boom.
"I'll kill you!" the soldier growled lowly.
"Tch. You fight like a beast", Kuro muttered, narrowing his eyes at the uniformed figure.
Dressed in military garb, yet radiating a wild, bestial aura like an Asura.
No mistake - this was Bartholomew.
Though still young at this time, appearing even younger than Kuro.
But in terms of might?
A formidable opponent indeed!
Kuro prepared to strike, intending to send Bartholomew flying with his blade. But suddenly, he sensed an extremely dangerous aura erupting from behind.
Turning his head, he saw Roger swing his sword. The overwhelming aura from that strike surged straight toward his back!
No escape!
This guy... got injured yet recovered this quickly?!
Kuro watched helplessly as the slash approached his back. Teeth clenched, he braced his body to endure this wisp of an attack.
Whoosh!
The slash passed harmlessly by, slicing through Bartholomew's side before cleaving into the Grand Line itself. A deep gash split the ocean's surface.
And then...
He vanished.
Completely disappeared. His aura no longer existed in this area.
After delivering that slash, Roger plunged into the Grand Line. With a splash, he disappeared beneath its waves.
After a while, back on the ship.
Roger sat drenched on the deck, blood still flowing from his chest wound.
"Roger, let me treat that!"
A man with a semicircular feathered headdress rushed over, medical supplies in hand.
"Hahaha! That guy was strong! Managed to escape despite his injury!"
Roger laughed heartily.
"You're injured yet still laughing?"
Silvers Rayleigh sighed. "What Navy member could possibly wound you this severely? Your..."
He didn't finish his sentence. Roger's gaze silenced him.
Roger was indeed powerful, but he already suffered from a severe illness.
This blade wound would shorten his life even further.
Could there really be someone in the Navy with such capability?
Silvers Rayleigh looked to the sky, eyes filled with deep shock.
"That Navy officer!"
Bartholomew clenched his fist. "I've memorized his aura. Next time we meet, I'll fight him properly. I swear it!!"
Boom!!
Coltiga.
Now completely destroyed.
Massive chunks of land from the sky crashed down, obliterating the island chain. The Grand Line's sea area had shrunk significantly, replaced by a vast continent.
Yet in one corner of this continent, a gaping hole remained.
Lida, now in her maiden form, collapsed on the warship's deck, panting heavily.
They had retreated to the sea surface, but the continent's descent showed no mercy. Lida had used her strength to blast a hole through the falling rock, preventing the warship from being crushed.
Even so, the residual shockwaves left the ship battered and broken.
Thankfully, most of the Navy crew aboard sustained only minor injuries.
"Was this what that old man meant by 'being saved'?"
Lida rested briefly, then sat up using her Overturn Fate ability. "So I still had to do it myself? Where is Kuro? Why hasn't he returned yet!"
As she spoke, she suddenly froze, turning toward a direction. "Kuro's aura!"
Without hesitation, she activated her Moonstep and rushed toward him.
Kuro had braced himself to block and counterattack that blade, Autumn Water gripped tightly. But in that moment, his vision blurred, and he found himself standing on a continent.
"Where is everyone? Where's Roger?"
Kuro blinked, still sensing the aftermath. But then he heard a shout.
"Kuro!!!"
He turned to see Lida sprinting toward him, leaping into his arms.
"Lida?"
Kuro patted her head, frowning as he surveyed the surroundings. "Have I returned? Does this mean Feld the Hidden is dead? I was sent back... but why is this a continent? Wasn't it supposed to be islands?"
Suddenly, realization struck him. He stiffened.
"Wait... Did my body fall down here?!"
