Chapter 583: Memories
Chapter 583: Memories
"Mumu..."
Mular regained its composure, heard the question, and silently took a step back.
"You don't want to?" Qiao Sang, seeing Mular's action, understood its thoughts without Fangy's translation.
In fact, she had already captured Mular and could have left it there without considering its wishes. However, Mular's previous actions were clearly aimed at protecting the group of Scaleshield Moths inside the house.
Without Mular, the Scaleshield Moths might have been discovered much earlier.
Moreover, according to the Client's description, Mular only created trash outside the door and tried to cause chaos inside, but it never attacked anyone.
Now, thinking about it, the trash might have been to make the Client move out, and the chaos to make the Client discover the Scaleshield Moths.
Faced with such a well-intentioned Mular, Qiao Sang found it hard to simply abandon it. After all, wild familiars have their preferred environments, and staying in a place they can't adapt to can shorten their lifespan.
"What kind of environment do you like? I'll try to find it for you", Qiao Sang said.
"Mumu..."
Mular realized that the human was genuinely asking for its opinion. It hesitated for a moment, then called out, asking if it could be sent back.
"No", Qiao Sang replied without hesitation, translated by Treasure Seeker.
Completing the mission was the priority. If Mular insisted on going back, she would have to leave it there.
"Mumu."
Mular was silent for a moment, then its expression became resolute.
It just needed to go back for a quick look, and then it would leave.
"Xunxun."
Treasure Seeker mimicked Mular's expression and tone in translation.
Qiao Sang gazed at Mular, paused for a moment, and asked, "Who do you want to see?"
Mular looked at the human but remained silent.
After a few seconds, Qiao Sang said with a hint of resignation, "I understand."
...
The mission handover forms at the Beastmaster Center were synchronized to the mobile phone, clearly listing the mission location.
After storing Lulu back into the Beastmaster Codex, Qiao Sang left Nadapong, whose face was swollen like a pig's head, and his familiar, and navigated to the Client's home based on the location provided.
When she arrived, she found a large crowd gathered at the door, watching.
Qiao Sang pushed through the crowd and saw the Client arguing with two police officers in uniform.
"So much time has passed! You still haven't found the location! What if something happens to that child!" Maya shouted.
That child? Is she talking about me? Qiao Sang was taken aback.
"Ma'am, please calm down", the black police officer said, sounding impatient.
"We've come as fast as we could, but you didn't give us a specific location. Finding the right place takes time, and you should know we're short-staffed here."
Maya started to curse, "What can you police do..."
Before she could finish, Qiao Sang, holding Fangy, stepped forward and asked, "Is something wrong?"
The seven short words made Maya stop her rant.
She paused, then seemed to realize something. She looked up at the sky, checking for any sign of the Scaleshield Moths, and visibly relaxed when she saw none.
Once the black-haired girl was identified as the person who called for help, the police quickly left without delay.
The black police officer's words weren't just empty talk; the Lower Ten Districts Police Station was indeed understaffed.
Seeing no more spectacle, the onlookers quickly dispersed.
"Are you hurt?" Maya asked with concern.
Being swollen like a pig's head probably counts as being hurt... Qiao Sang shook her head and said, "No."
"I heard that the scale powder of the Scaleshield Moths is toxic and can cause allergic reactions. If not treated promptly, it can lead to hallucinations over time", Maya said with genuine admiration.
"I didn't expect you to avoid getting any scale powder on you with so many Scaleshield Moths around."
Qiao Sang coughed.
"Actually, I did get a little, but I have a familiar with healing skills, so it was taken care of."
This familiar actually had healing skills... Maya automatically ruled out the Ghost Familiar she couldn't name and the Steel Sparrow, and stared in shock at Fangy, who was currently in Qiao Sang's arms.
As they chatted, Mular looked longingly at the little girl who hadn't noticed it, then turned and left with a lonely expression.
Only Steel Treasure noticed.
It silently watched Mular's back, saying nothing.
But when Mular was about to disappear around the corner, Steel Treasure looked at its Beastmaster, remembering that its mission was to ensure Mular stayed far away from this place.
If Mular didn't go far and returned later, it would be a difficult situation...
"Ganggang."
Steel Treasure sighed inwardly, tapped Qiao Sang's shoulder with its wing, and gestured toward Mular's direction.
Qiao Sang turned and raised an eyebrow, calling out:
"Treasure Seeker."
"Seek~"
Treasure Seeker chirped, its eyes glowing blue.
In the next second, Mular was back at the starting point.
"Mumu?"
Mular looked bewildered.
Maya remembered Mular's presence.
"That Mular was likely trying to alert you to the Scaleshield Moths in the room", Qiao Sang said.
Maya was taken aback for a moment, then realized:
"No wonder it kept trying to attack the walls in the room."
But then she puzzled:
"But why did it do that?"
"You'll have to ask Mular", Qiao Sang said, looking at Mular.
Maya and the little girl also turned to look.
"Mumu..."
Mular looked at a loss.
Suddenly, the little girl tugged at her mother's clothes and said in a sweet voice:
"Mom, it looks just like the familiar in the trash can."
At these words, Mular's body stiffened.
"What familiar in the trash can?" Maya asked.
"The one in the trash can, don't you remember? I even gave it some food", the little girl explained.
"How could I forget", Maya said with a smile.
She remembered that day well; it had been two years ago.
It was raining heavily that day. She had picked up her daughter from kindergarten and bought some corn cakes. Just a few steps after buying them, she noticed a trash can by the roadside moving.
Her daughter had immediately hidden behind her. Just as she was about to take her daughter away, a tiny wild familiar emerged from the trash can.
The familiar had a fierce expression, but it was clearly very young and not at all intimidating.
Her daughter, seeing how small it was, wasn't afraid and even gave it the corn cake she had just bought.
She remembered it so clearly because the familiar's expression had changed instantly upon seeing the corn cake, looking soft and cute, very different from the typical wild familiar.
Recalling the past, Maya continued:
"That wasn't Mular, it was a little..."
At this point, Maya froze.
A Larva Mular, the juvenile form of Mular...
It was a rather magical moment, one she had initially planned to leave as a regrettable hint, but it ended up being a perfect ending.
