Chapter 583: Activation
Chapter 583: Activation
Wang and Lu, the two executive captains, paid no heed to the two combat dolls, confident that Xu Chan would help keep them occupied.
The two had often worked together on convergence ground missions, frequently facing large-sized biological entities and formidable opponents from the former imperial court. Their teamwork was seamless.
Tie Cheng Peng was not inexperienced, but it was evident he rarely encountered opponents as coordinated and skilled as these two. Whenever he tried to engage one of them, the other would inevitably step in to restrain him, disrupting his techniques halfway through.
His Elephant Taming Technique, though effective in reducing self-inflicted damage, was rendered useless in the face of such restraint and entanglement. It was as if his limbs were bound by invisible ropes, preventing him from fully utilizing his strength.
Xu Chan stood motionless, his sharp gaze intermittently fixed on the critical nodes of Tie's force technique. This was something he couldn't ignore and had to be vigilant against, requiring him to dedicate most of his mental energy to defense, making him even more passive.
After all, no matter how strong an individual was, when facing a group of equally skilled opponents, this was the best they could do. To remain standing was already an exceptional performance.
With the three of them occupied, the surrounding biological combat entities became active again, surging into the interior of the building.
Before long, the field signals outside were restored. Two members of Team One, originally from the Exploration Team, stood outside the building, observing the situation within through the field creatures they had brought with them.
One of them, a bearded man in an Exploration Team uniform, reached into his chest pocket and took out a special pack of vigor cigarettes. He tossed one to his teammate and kept one for himself. After a glance at the hologram displaying the situation, he confidently said, "It won't be long now."
His teammate caught the cigarette, took a light puff, and it ignited instantly. After taking a drag, the entire cigarette burst into sparks, and the front end immediately turned to ash and fell.
He commented, "This big guy has a solid foundation and excellent combat awareness. He seems promising and might be a talent cultivated by Skywheel Company. It's a pity..."
One person, no matter how skilled, could only do so much against a group of equally matched opponents. Even with the three of them working together, they could kill him, and...
He continued, "Old Xu hasn't shown his true skills yet."
The bearded man nodded. They were well aware of Xu Chan's strength; one person was enough to suppress him. But now, he was still fighting conservatively...
"Old Xu is always cautious," he said. "He's probably saving his energy to deal with that thing."
His teammate nodded in agreement. "That's true. That's the real challenge. I'm not sure if the five of us would be enough..."
"The Defense Department's tower assessed the situation," the bearded man said. "Without any external interference, we should be able to handle it with the five of us, especially with the support of the An-Shield. The concern isn't about handling it but the potential complications if it drags on. Well, it's about time..."
Inside the hall, Tie Cheng Peng, restrained by the two, finally lost his patience. He decided to take on one of them, even at the cost of some injury, as his Elephant Taming Technique was a type of capture and embrace technique. If he could grab hold of his opponent, he could disable them in a single strike.
He had no choice but to make this move, as continuing to hold back would only result in the group gradually limiting his ability to exert force. Eventually, he might be killed without ever fully unleashing his power.
Just as he made his move, Xu Chan suddenly appeared at his side, seemingly having waited for this moment. He now held a slender, flexible sword, which he swiftly thrust into Tie's abdomen.
The taut muscles and bones there seemed to offer no resistance as the thin blade sliced through the altered tissue, finding the gaps between the connecting tissues and force techniques. It perfectly avoided all obstacles and pierced directly into his heart.
Tie Cheng Peng's heart instantly contracted, wrapping around the sword, while his body instinctively recoiled. But this left other areas vulnerable, and to prevent the force from the sword from erupting outward, the accumulated essence and blood in his heart couldn't be circulated to the rest of his body.
At that moment, Lu and Wang's attacks landed. The former punched his earflap, while the latter's four fingers pierced through his back. Their force techniques simultaneously transmitted into his body.
Without the central coordination of the altered tissue, it couldn't organize a comprehensive resistance. Blood gushed from his eyes, nose, and ears, his eyes rolled back, and his sturdy spine was severed by a sharp force.
Lu and Wang didn't stop; they took advantage of his momentary loss of resistance, delivering successive force techniques into his body.
Tie Cheng Peng indeed lived up to his selection by Skywheel Company, possessing an extremely solid foundation of potential. Even without the supply of essence and blood from his heart, his altered tissue, bones, and muscles continuously self-repaired at a rapid pace.
This was not only due to his innate talent but also the large amount of special nutrient paste he had consumed, which provided a constant energy supply to the altered tissue within his body.
However, this only slightly delayed the inevitable outcome.
As the two execution captains relentlessly attacked, blood gushed from their target's body like a spring, quickly pooling on the ground. The relentless assault rendered the person unconscious, yet they remained standing, arms poised in a defensive stance.
The two captains were impressed by their opponent's resilience. In a typical sparring match, this would have been the end, and they wouldn't have continued their assault. But this was a cleansing battle, and for the safety of their colleagues, they couldn't hold back.
Captain Lu leaped into the air, delivering a powerful kick to Iron Cheng Peng's head. The force of the blow reverberated through the entire hall, leaving a deafening echo.
The kick not only destroyed the brain tissue but also shattered the upper half of the head. Despite this, Iron Cheng Peng's lifeless body remained standing, refusing to collapse.
Xu Chan finally took a step back, withdrawing his thin sword from the body. From start to finish, he had only made one move, not even utilizing his Heart Force. He seized the perfect opportunity, exploiting the weakest link in his opponent's force flow, and thus secured victory.
Xu Chan cautiously surveyed his surroundings and instructed, "Continue the assault. And..." He glanced at several specific locations, "...shut down all information fields in the vicinity."
Meanwhile, on the ground, a team of liaison officers sent by the Skywheel Company emerged from beneath the sea, bypassing the information shield and successfully reaching the shore.
They were prepared for the modified creatures in the water, with one team drawing their attention while the other retreated.
This team consisted of fighters skilled in close combat, who swiftly navigated the coastline and reached a more southern location.
Even after reaching the shore, they couldn't immediately contact anyone within the city due to the rift's interference, rendering radios almost useless. Currently, long-range communication relied solely on field information transmission.
Their task was to infiltrate the city, locate the field creature placed by the Skywheel Company in a specific stronghold, and then proceed to the Radiance Zone. By using secret frequencies, they could contact the company's regular spokesperson, a council member. Once this information reached the City Council, the company's crisis would be resolved.
After walking several kilometers south, they found a company stronghold and prepared to retrieve the hidden vehicles and equipment. However, as some team members entered the stronghold, a loud explosion erupted from within, instantly blasting the entire building into the sky. Even those standing outside were knocked down by the shockwave.
The furthest member, struggling to stand, noticed figures approaching in the distance. Through blurred vision, he discerned a group of people wearing fedoras and trench coats.
He opened his mouth, but no sound came out. As one of them passed by, they drew a pistol and shot him at close range, instantly rendering him immobile.
The group continued forward, with their leader instructing his subordinates to check the surroundings and finish off any survivors. After a while, the team gathered, and a report was made.
"All clear, sir."
"Leave two to guard, and the rest of you, fall back."
Aboard the Skywheel Company's submarine, several directors observed Iron Cheng Peng's body collapse. Their faces were grim.
They had hoped that this individual, into whom the company had invested significant resources, could hold out for longer. But he had only managed to endure for less than ten minutes.
Director Eagle Tail spoke up, "It's been over two hours since the battle began. The shore team should have reached land by now. If they're successful, within the next one to two hours, they can contact someone from the City Council, assuming they don't encounter any unexpected obstacles. But..."
He glanced at the other directors, "Do we have two hours? Those modified creatures have already infiltrated every corner of the tower."
On the holographic screen, the biological combat weapons left a trail of carnage, dismembering Skywheel Company employees and armed personnel with their sharp arm blades. It was a gruesome and unpleasant sight.
The combat creatures' tentacles and compound eyes flashed as they scurried elsewhere, seemingly searching for something.
A director murmured, "They're looking for Vigor Mind Body."
"And they'll find it soon," Director Eagle Tail added. "Even if we don't activate it, within half an hour, it will be discovered. We need to initiate it!"
He shouted in anger, "What are you all hesitating about?"
Unlike the previous time, no director immediately voiced opposition. Instead, they remained silent.
After a while, one director spoke up, his voice solemn, "I agree with Director Eagle Tail."
With one director expressing agreement, the others' attitudes softened. After a pause, another director hesitated and said, "I agree as well."
"I agree."
"Agreed."
As the majority of the directors voiced their consent, the director in the main position finally relented, his expression grave, "Since you all agree, then... let's activate it!"
