Chapter 580: Use Avada Kedavra on Me, Weasley!
Chapter 580: Use Avada Kedavra on Me, Weasley!
Suddenly being pointed at by Mad-Eye Moody, Harry looked bewildered, while Ron seemed rather eager to try.
"Is it true, Professors? Even if we use the Killing Curse on you, you'll only get a nosebleed?" Ron looked at Mad-Eye Moody with curiosity, clearly skeptical of what the professor had just said.
The other young wizards also looked over, finding Mad-Eye Moody's sudden change in tone quite amusing. A few students even burst out laughing.
"Yes, I didn't say anything wrong, Mr. Weasley!" Mad-Eye Moody ignored the students who were giggling, limping over to Ron with his wooden leg. He bent down, bringing his face close, and the scar on his face looked particularly menacing.
"It seems you don't believe me, do you?" Mad-Eye Moody stared at Ron, his mouth opening and closing as he demanded an answer.
Under the scrutiny of that bizarre blue magical eye, Ron shrank back, unsure of how to respond. He had only been trying to be clever and get a laugh.
"Right now, Weasley, take out your wand and cast the spell on me!" Mad-Eye Moody suddenly shouted loudly.
Ron jumped, almost leaping out of his seat. The other young wizards were equally startled, and Neville, who was sitting nearby, trembled visibly.
The laughter that had been lingering in the air immediately ceased, and the classroom became eerily silent.
Ivan also looked at Mad-Eye Moody in surprise, not expecting the Auror to be serious.
Although Ron's magic was weak, and his casting skills were abysmal, the Killing Curse was one of the most dangerous Unforgivable Curses.
If Ron managed to cast it successfully, it wouldn't be a laughing matter!
"Didn't you hear me? Hurry up! Now!" Mad-Eye Moody slammed his calloused left hand heavily on the table and roared at Ron.
"I, I don't know that spell, Professors. Maybe you should teach us another one," Ron stammered, looking at Mad-Eye Moody in fear.
"Don't worry, it's not difficult. I can demonstrate it for you right now!" Mad-Eye Moody forced a smile, then turned and waved his wand behind him. A glass bottle shot out of the drawer on the podium and landed in his hand.
Ivan could clearly see that the glass bottle contained three black spiders, each about half the size of a palm, wriggling restlessly.
"Come on, Mr. Weasley! Let me show you how it's done!" Mad-Eye Moody unscrewed the cap of the glass bottle and turned it upside down, slamming it onto the table. His voice was hoarse, and the scar on his face twisted into wrinkles as he spoke, giving him a slightly deranged appearance.
For a moment, Ron thought Mad-Eye Moody might have gone mad. He tried to move his chair closer to Harry, trying to put some distance between himself and the professor.
Harry also looked shaken.
Mad-Eye Moody picked up the glass bottle, and the three black spiders immediately escaped their confines. However, they didn't get far, as Mad-Eye Moody's magic restrained them, forcing them to move in a small circle.
"Ha, look at these little critters, so lively. But they won't be for long," Mad-Eye Moody said darkly, then turned to Ron again.
"Remember, this Dark Magic spell isn't hard to learn. Watch closely!"
Everyone's attention was fixed on the three spiders, a mix of excitement and fear in their eyes. Most of the young wizards present were witnessing the Killing Curse for the first time.
"Avada Kedavra!" Mad-Eye Moody drew his wand and shouted, aiming it at one of the black spiders.
In the next moment, a blinding green light shot out from the tip of his wand. Ron, who was closest, felt his heart clench, a chill running up his spine.
The green beam struck the middle black spider without any hindrance.
There were no gruesome wounds; the spider simply twitched violently, its body collapsing and becoming stiff and motionless.
Everything seemed calm, but Ivan understood the terror hidden beneath this calm. Curses like the Killing Curse were never simple.
Was it an attack on the soul?
Ivan pondered this, but then realized it might not be entirely correct. The curse likely stripped away the life force of its target instantly.
Otherwise, in the original timeline, Harry wouldn't have been able to see Dumbledore in the afterlife, and Voldemort, hit by the rebounded Avada Kedavra, wouldn't have had his primary soul survive, even if it lost its physical form.
This was partly due to the Horcruxes, but it proved that the Killing Curse couldn't completely annihilate a soul.
Ivan was the only one viewing the Killing Curse with a research mindset. The other students in the classroom were stunned, with several girls covering their mouths, trying to suppress their screams.
"Is it dead?" Ron swallowed hard, his voice trembling.
"Of course!" Mad-Eye Moody used his wand to lift the limp black spider and placed it in front of Ron, grinning. "What? You want to check?"
Ron shook his head frantically. He was already terrified of spiders, let alone one that had just been hit by the Killing Curse!
"This is the Killing Curse, as you can see!" Mad-Eye Moody held the dead spider high, so everyone could see it clearly.
"Not just anyone can do this!" Mad-Eye Moody continued. "Those who can truly harness its power are either powerful wizards or complete villains!"
"Most of the time, it's a combination of both—powerful Dark Wizards! This is their most proficient magic!"
"If you encounter such people, you can only pray you don't get hit; otherwise, death will be your fate!" Mad-Eye Moody spoke gruffly, then looked back at Ron.
"Mr. Weasley, your turn!"
"No, I can't, Professors!" Ron trembled with fear, feeling he couldn't even hold his wand.
This time, Mad-Eye Moody didn't force him, his gaze sweeping over the students who were now thoroughly intimidated. He nodded in satisfaction.
He had restored his authority!
Thinking about this, Mad-Eye Moody glanced at Ivan, feeling somewhat helpless. Who would have thought that a monster like this would appear in the fourth year?
From the information he had gathered, Mad-Eye Moody had no doubt that if Ivan were to cast the Killing Curse on him, he would die instantly, just like the spider.
He also noticed that Ivan seemed very familiar with the Killing Curse. Not only did he answer questions comprehensively, but his face showed no emotion when he saw Mad-Eye Moody cast the spell.
Mad-Eye Moody noted these peculiarities but kept them to himself, maintaining a calm expression as he continued the lesson, using the remaining two black spiders to demonstrate the Imperius Curse and the Cruciatus Curse.
