Chapter 58: Wish Fulfilled
Chapter 58: Wish Fulfilled
"It's a good thing I upgraded my Transformation Theory to Level 2. Otherwise, I'd be completely lost right now." Albert couldn't help but feel amazed as he listened to Professor McGonagall's explanation.
Selwyn from Ravenclaw, unlike Professor McGonagall, did not possess the ability to perform an Animagus transformation. However, based on his theory of human transfiguration, he provided additional insights and explanations about Animagi, earning him the Most Promising Newcomer Award for his article in "Today's Transfiguration."
In Albert's own words, the article concluded: "Animagus transformation is an advanced form of Transfiguration magic. To master it successfully, one must possess profound knowledge in Potion-making and Transfiguration skills, as well as courage and luck."
As Albert recalled the requirements for learning Animagus transformation in his mind, he couldn't help but frown slightly. Typically, a wizard's Animagus form is the same as their Patronus, and the process to achieve it is complex. No wonder Animagi are so rare.
Speaking of which, how did Harry Potter's father and his friends manage to become Animagi? This was something Albert couldn't quite wrap his head around.
Creating the potion required for Animagus transformation is an extremely complex process, and with bad luck, it could take years to succeed.
Could all of this be attributed to the protagonist's halo?
While Albert was still pondering this question, he noticed a new task pop up on his task panel.
Animagus.
You have inadvertently come across an extremely advanced form of Transfiguration magic. Mastering the Animagus transformation will take your Transfiguration magic to the next level. Complete the ritual and become an Animagus.
Reward: Animagus Skill Level +1, 10,000 Experience.
Seeing the unexpected task, Albert couldn't help but swallow nervously.
The reward for a task actually reflects its difficulty, and this one seemed... not too challenging?
"What are you thinking about?" The girl next to him, Field, interrupted Albert's thoughts.
The Gryffindor girl was curiously observing the boy beside her, wondering how much he had understood. After all, he was just a first-year student, and encountering such advanced concepts, he should be confused. But Albert seemed to be deep in thought, indicating that he might have grasped some of it.
"It's difficult," Albert admitted. "Human transfiguration is still a bit too advanced for me at the moment." He shared his thoughts: "A few days ago, I came across some knowledge about human transfiguration in the library, and I thought that Animagus transformation was a superior technique that turned oneself into an animal. But now it seems that my understanding was somewhat different from the reality."
"The type of transformation you mentioned, even if successful in turning oneself into an animal, cannot be considered an Animagus transformation," Field explained. "Because once you become an animal, you won't be able to turn back on your own. You'll understand this when you learn more about advanced transfiguration."
It must be said that the older students invited by Professor McGonagall were indeed proficient in human transfiguration.
"Field..." Albert asked curiously, "have you ever thought about becoming an Animagus?"
"No," Field shook her head. "Becoming an Animagus is incredibly difficult. But with your talent, I think you might have a chance."
"Ahem." At some point, Professor McGonagall had appeared beside them and cleared her throat, interrupting their conversation. "I must remind you that Animagi are not as simple as you might think. You can explore it in your free time, but..." The professor's tone turned stern as she fixed her gaze on Albert, "...I must warn all of you to never attempt it recklessly, especially when you're alone. It could put you in grave danger. Some wizards who tried to become Animagi ended up failing and becoming half-human, half-beast creatures, ultimately ending their lives in pain."
Perhaps Professor McGonagall was just trying to scare them, or perhaps she was telling the truth. But Albert wasn't worried in the slightest. With his system, he could definitely become an Animagus if he wanted to... because he had the cheat-like system! Failure in transformation? Not possible if he simply upgraded his Animagus skill level.
Professor McGonagall's explanation of the "Today's Transfiguration" article wasn't the only activity of the Transfiguration Club. The rest of the time was spent practicing or learning Transfiguration magic together.
For this purpose, Professor McGonagall had provided everyone with small mice to practice the Vanishing Spell.
The incantation for the Vanishing Spell was: "Evanesco."
This spell didn't actually make objects disappear; instead, it transported them elsewhere, effectively removing them from the caster's presence.
Its effect was somewhat similar to the Scouring Charm, but in Albert's opinion, the Scouring Charm was more like a watered-down version of the Vanishing Spell—a very watered-down version, which was why he was able to master it.
Okay, Albert admitted that his mastery of the Scouring Charm was due to his system.
Instead of giving Albert a mouse, Professor McGonagall lent him a book, "Intermediate Transfiguration," which included information about Summoning Charms.
By the way, the owner of the book was Minerva McGonagall.
When Albert opened the first page, he noticed Professor McGonagall's name written on it. Should he thank Professor McGonagall for lending him her book?
However, a book owned by a renowned Transfiguration professor was indeed valuable, as evidenced by the advanced Potions book that Harry Potter had received from the Half-Blood Prince.
Summoning Charms were even more difficult than Albert had anticipated. To use a Summoning Charm, one needed to have sufficient magical power to support it, which was almost impossible for a first-year student.
Nevertheless, Albert didn't give up. During the practice session, he kept pondering the Summoning Charm, and it was a good thing he had upgraded his Transformation Theory to Level 2; otherwise, he wouldn't have been able to understand the content of the book.
"As expected..." Albert sneaked a glance at his skill panel, and indeed, the Summoning Charm had appeared.
Albert concentrated, raised his wand, and whispered, "Chrysanthemums, bloom!"
This time, there was a reaction at the tip of his wand.
Albert reached out and pulled it towards himself to take a look... This was... a flower branch? His face twitched slightly, but he consoled himself that at least he had successfully summoned something related to chrysanthemums.
"What did you just say?" Field's attention was drawn to the object in Albert's hand, and her wand accidentally tapped the table leg, causing one of the legs of the round table to disappear.
"Be careful, Miss Field," Professor McGonagall said as she reattached the table leg, a bit annoyed. "If I were you, I'd be more mindful. Apologize to the table."
"Sorry, Professor McGonagall," Field apologized, but her gaze remained fixed on the tender branch in Albert's hand. As soon as the professor walked away, she took it and examined it closely. "You really surprised me. With a bit more practice, you might be able to summon the flowers you want soon."
"I will succeed," Albert nodded.
However, even after the Transfiguration Club ended, he still couldn't successfully summon a blooming chrysanthemum.
