Chapter 58: The Shocking Power of Zongdi Jinguang
Chapter 58: The Shocking Power of Zongdi Jinguang (Please Continue Reading)
The Yan Chi Secret Realm stretched vast and wide—its safe zone alone spanned thirty miles in depth and over a hundred in length.
The gruesome scene they’d just witnessed left many disciples shaken.
Cautious cultivators who’d entered the forbidden realm stayed near the entrance, submerging themselves in the Yan Pond to temper their bodies. Others abandoned plans to hunt spirit beasts or seek Fire Crystals altogether, dispersing across the safe zones marked on their maps to find pools suiting their cultivation levels.
Only a dozen or so core disciples, including Xiao Chen and Ye Fei, pressed forward to the inner edge.
A massive fissure separated the outer and inner realms, bridged by a solitary jade pillar lying across the chasm.
As Xiao Chen approached, he finally spotted the guardian spirit beasts patrolling the other side. Near the bridge slept a two-headed lion, its massive form flanked by two smaller twin lions playfully tugging at each other.
Song Zhongwen, leading the group, halted abruptly. “Hold.”
Song Shengying frowned. “Why are there already spirit beasts here? If this is the outer area, how many more must be inside?”
Chen Guangyu scoffed, eyeing the beasts. “Two at Refinement Stage 7 and one at Stage 9. With all of us here, one sword each and they’re done. What’s the worry?”
Song Zhongwen sighed. The realm’s guardians were no ordinary foes—they’d absorbed fiery energy from their environment, making them resistant to elemental attacks. Fighting them meant battling both their strength and the realm’s corrosive fire qi, all while avoiding the treacherous terrain. Their group had formed teams specifically to counter these odds.
Still, hesitation wouldn’t help. “Prepare yourselves. We’ll clear these three first.”
But as they crossed the bridge, the three lions fled.
Chen Guangyu laughed. “Hmph, scared already? This isn’t so hard.”
Xiao Chen interrupted. “Something’s wrong. If there are cubs, there must be a pride nearby. We should wait here.”
Liu Shiqing nodded. “He’s right. Let’s hold position.”
Chen Guangyu rolled his eyes. “You think every rock hides a beast? Previous disciples never encountered—”
Before he could finish, ten more twin lions emerged, six of them full-grown Refinement Stage 9 beasts.
Liu Shiqing paled. “Could this be because the realm opened early?”
Su Yuanpeng drew his flying sword. “Not bad. I’ll take the leftmost Stage 9.”
Song Zhongwen raised a mirror-like artifact. “I’ll handle the right. Everyone, pick your targets.”
Xiao Chen and Liu Benxin paired up against a Stage 7 cub. Normally, even odds meant an easy victory—but when Xiao Chen’s fireball spell merely staggered the beast, their confidence shattered.
He quickly summoned his Golden Light Pearl and Evergreen Sword. “They’re immune to fire!”
Su Wanning’s voice followed. “And water!”
The pride’s resistance to all five elements stunned the group. Without protective artifacts, they’d have suffered casualties already.
Song Zhongwen barked, “Fall back! Regroup outside!”
Too late. Three more Stage 9 lions blocked their retreat, circling behind.
Song Zhongwen hurled talismans. “Cover the front—I’ll break through!”
Su Yuanpeng charged backward, golden light blazing. Liu Shiqing’s rainbow sash ensnared one lion, while Ye Fei’s wind-speed technique stalled another. Talismans erupted into wooden vines, but the fire qi reduced them to ash in seconds.
Xiao Chen darted into the fray, golden light flashing as he weaved between beasts. “Focus on me!” he shouted, drawing their attention to protect his seniors. With his Zongdi Jinguang technique recently refined to minor mastery, even a hundred lions couldn’t trap him.
The disciples retreated across the bridge, leaving Xiao Chen alone.
Song Zhongwen shouted, “Come back! I’ll cover you!”
Liu Shiqing flung talismans to help, but only Xiao Chen’s golden dance through the pride mattered.
“I’m going deeper,” Xiao Chen called. “I need the Fire Spirit Crystal.”
Before they could protest, he vanished in a golden blur.
Chen Guangyu gaped. “Since when could he move like that?!”
Liu Shiqing stared at Liu Benxin. “You said he was just a humble cultivator?”
Song Zhongwen muttered, “That speed…”
Su Wanning’s heart raced. Xiao Senior Brother… how many more surprises do you have?
Ye Fei clenched his fists. His wind-speed technique is faster than mine…
The group stood speechless as Xiao Chen’s golden light faded into the distance.
