Chapter 58: Indeed, It Was All Professor Dumbledore's Doing
Chapter 58: Indeed, It Was All Professor Dumbledore's Doing
Noticing the scene, Professor Mcgonagall pursed her lips, her eyes filled with anger. She hadn't expected the attacker to be so ruthless as to set fire in the Forbidden Forest while targeting Hagrid.
If she had arrived any later, she might not have been able to stop the fire.
However, despite her anger, Professor Mcgonagall immediately knelt down to check Hagrid's injuries.
After confirming that the injuries were not life-threatening, Professor Mcgonagall sighed in relief. She waved her wand, using magic to draw out the black smoke from the wounds, then cast several healing spells to stop the bleeding and heal the injuries.
"I can only do so much for now. You'll need to go to Madam Pomfrey for further treatment", Professor Mcgonagall said.
"Thank you, that's enough. I think I'll be fine. Can you go see Cecilia? I think there's still a chance to save her", Hagrid said, his face still streaked with tears, his voice choked with emotion.
"Cecilia? Who is she?" Mcgonagall asked, puzzled.
"That's the name Hagrid gave the Unicorn. It took the Avada Kedavra to protect Hagrid", Ivan, who had been observing for a while, noticed that Hagrid was becoming exhausted and continued the story.
"It's already dead, Hagrid", Mcgonagall said, noticing the lifeless Unicorn on the ground. After hearing that it had been hit by the Avada Kedavra, she shook her head helplessly.
"It's my fault", Hagrid said, covering his face in despair, sobbing uncontrollably.
Seeing this, Mcgonagall realized she wouldn't get much information from Hagrid and turned her attention to Ivan, who looked relatively composed.
"Hagrid! What exactly happened? How did Hagrid get injured?" Mcgonagall asked sternly. The death of a Unicorn and Hagrid being hit by a curse in the Forbidden Forest indicated a serious situation.
Ivan didn't hide anything and recounted the events leading up to their encounter with Fang outside Hagrid's hut, and their suspicion that Hagrid had been attacked in the Forbidden Forest.
He then continued:
"To avoid delaying the rescue, Harry and the others went to seek help, while I rode Norbert to investigate. I saw a Dark Wizard about to attack Hagrid, so I used the dragon's breath and the force of a high-speed dive to ambush him, successfully driving him off."
Professor Mcgonagall pursed her lips. Although Ivan's account was brief, she could imagine the perilous scene. Ivan's ability to improvise and use the dragon's aerial advantage for an ambush earned her admiration for his quick thinking.
After recounting the events, Ivan pointed to the charred tree on the right.
"Professor, the Dark Wizard who was thrown by Norbert landed over there. I think he's badly injured, but he should still be alive."
"Are you sure?" Mcgonagall frowned. According to Ivan's description, the combination of a dragon's impact and the flames would normally be fatal.
"Professor, as you can see, there's no body there. I don't think it would have been reduced to ashes in such a short time", Ivan said, shrugging. He was also disappointed that despite his best efforts, Quirrell had managed to escape.
Professor Mcgonagall nodded, but then suddenly realized something.
"Wait, who set the fire?"
"Of course, it was me", Ivan said sheepishly, then explained more seriously that it was a necessary precaution against a Dark Wizard capable of casting the Avada Kedavra.
Professor Mcgonagall looked at the Forbidden Forest, which was still emitting wisps of black smoke after the fire, and her lips twitched.
Is this child being a bit too cautious?
Especially since she couldn't really scold Ivan. The fact that the Dark Wizard had used the Avada Kedavra and managed to escape from the fire proved just how dangerous he was.
"Professor, I feel that the opponent must have been seriously injured. They might not have gone far. If you chase now, you might still catch them", Ivan said urgently.
Wasn't it better to strike while Quirrell and Voldemort were in a weakened state, rather than waiting for them to recover and come back for revenge?
"No, the most important thing right now is to ensure your safety. We'll wait for Albus to arrive before we investigate and pursue", Professor Mcgonagall shook her head without hesitation. Facing an unknown enemy who had retreated into the Forbidden Forest, a rash pursuit would be extremely dangerous.
Of course, she wasn't worried about her own safety, but she was afraid that if she left, the Dark Wizard might return and harm Ivan and Hagrid.
Ivan sighed. He knew that with Voldemort's abilities, even if he was seriously injured, he would be long gone by the time Dumbledore arrived.
"There's something else I haven't asked you, Hagrid!" Professor Mcgonagall turned her gaze to the lazy Norbert, who was lying on the ground, and demanded.
"Where did this dragon come from? I heard from Hermione that you rode a dragon to save Hagrid. I almost thought they were crazy! Because Hogwarts doesn't keep dragons, and raising a dragon without the Ministry of Magic's permission is illegal!"
Professor Mcgonagall spoke sharply, leaving no room for Ivan to save face. The dragon's roar had been heard by more than just her, and if the Ministry of Magic investigated, the person who raised the dragon would be sent to Azkaban!
Hagrid had just recovered from the shock. Seeing Ivan remain silent under Professor Mcgonagall's interrogation, he gritted his teeth and spoke up.
"Actually, the dragon is—"
"It was Professor Dumbledore who asked Hagrid to raise it!" Ivan suddenly interrupted, knowing that if he didn't shift the blame, Professor Mcgonagall might lean towards sending Hagrid to Azkaban.
"Albus?" Professor Mcgonagall's tone softened, but she still sounded incredulous.
"It's true, Minerva."
Dumbledore's voice came from the other end of the Forbidden Forest, followed by his distinctive silver beard. Dumbledore was wearing a deep purple robe covered in silver stars, and his overly long cloak trailed on the ground. There was a rare look of worry on his face.
This was the first time Ivan had been caught in the act of shifting the blame, and he felt a bit awkward. Fortunately, Dumbledore didn't expose him and instead helped cover the lie.
"How could you possibly let Hagrid do something like this? What if the Ministry of Magic comes to inspect? How will we explain it?" Professor Mcgonagall frowned.
"I'll explain the details later. For now, I want to know what exactly happened here", Dumbledore said, looking at Hagrid.
Hagrid had somewhat recovered his spirits and began to recount the events, speaking in a broken but coherent manner.
